This film is based on Jules Verne's fantastic gothic novel 'Le Château des Carpathes' published in 1892.
In 1964, Romanian director Sergiu Nicolaescu wanted to do this film, with producer Henry Deutschmeister of Franco-London Films but their project was never realized.
In the film, Giuseppe Verdi's Traviata, sung by Stilla, is in fact sung by Romanian soprano Eugenia Moldoveanu.
The 19th century voice-recording equipment seen in the film was borrowed from the technical museum 'Muzeul Tehnic Prof. Ing. Dimitrie Leonida' of Bucharest.
According to the Romanian National Centre of Cinematography (Centrul National al Cinematografiei), this film was seen by 1.596.075 Romanian moviegoers by December of 2007.
