Jeopardy! has itself a new champion after Wednesday night (May 29), but it came at the expense of another contestant who fell into the trap of a “brutal” Daily Double clue. On Wednesday’s episode, one-day champion Abby Mann, a digital scholarship librarian from Normal, Illinois, returned to the Alex Trebek Stage to take on Adriana Harmeyer, an archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana, and Brian O’Shea, a gifted specialist & teacher from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The game started pretty tight in the Jeopardy round, with the scores relatively close heading into Double Jeopardy. Mann led with $4,800, O’Shea followed closely with $4,600, and Harmeyer trailed with $3,800. Things changed in Double Jeopardy, especially thanks to the two Daily Doubles. Harmeyer landed the first Daily Double, bumping up her total by $4,000 and giving her a solid lead. Meanwhile, O’Shea found the second Daily Double but ended up losing $6,000 after falling for some tricky wording. Under the “White House Weddings” category,...

Kathleen Hanna returned to the hallowed space that is the Jeopardy! clue board, serving as part of an answer to a question that, ultimately, none of the contestants were cool enough to get.
The clue popped up during “Double Jeopardy” as the $1200 answer in the “Let’s Rock & Roll” category: “Bikini Kill singer Kathleen Hanna was an early icon of this great 1990s movement, fusing feminism and punk rock.” After no one buzzed in to answer — what’s known in the biz as a “triple stumper” — host Ken Jennings quipped,...

Jeopardy! fans are seriously annoyed after an incorrect clue was featured during Double Jeopardy!
Reigning champion Alison Betts was playing against her competitors, Sarah Avery and Brian Phillips, when she opted for a $1,200 clue in the “American Birds” category.
The San Jose, California native’s clue was a video featuring a brown-winged bird as it fluttered its wings.
Host Ken Jennings read the clue to Alison: “The Cooper’s type of this bird of prey is soon to be the Tbd type as American birds will no longer have people in their common names.”
When Alison’s guess, “Finch,” was deemed incorrect, Ken told her the correct answer was, “Cooper’s Hawk.”
But, some hawk-eyed (pun intended) Jeopardy! viewers pointed out that the bird in question wasn’t a hawk but a falcon.

Another champion has been crowned on Jeopardy!‘s Invitational Tournament, and it looks like we very well could be heading towards a repeat matchup in the upcoming Jeopardy! Masters primetime event on ABC. On Wednesday’s semifinals, Sam Kavanaugh, Andrew He, and Larissa Kelly faced off for the chance to advance and face off with the first Jit winner, Amy Schneider. The first round found Kelly getting just one answer wrong of 13 buzz-ins — unfortunately, though, it was on a true Daily Double. Meanwhile, Kavanaugh struggled at the outset, and while He had fewer correct answers than Kelly, he had more money, leading with $5,600 to Kelly’s $4,000 and Kavanaugh’s $800. Double Jeopardy was a similar story. Only, this time, it was He who got both of the Daily Doubles (and answered them correctly). By the end of the round, He had a runaway lead with a whopping $32,000 to Kelly’s $13,200 and Kavanaugh’s $9,200. Perhaps unsurprisingly,...

Jeopardy!‘s Invitational Tournament continues to rage on and it was a close call for a fan-favorite in the March 28th quarterfinals match between Sam Kavanaugh, Chuck Forrest, and Monica Thieu. As a five-game champion from Season 35 and 2021 Tournament of Champions winner, Sam has been a recent favorite among viewers of the game show. But things weren’t looking good for Sam early on as he entered Double Jeopardy with a meager $200 against Chuck’s $2,600 and Moncia’s impressive $8,200. Things began to turn around for Sam in the Double Jeopardy round as he snagged both Daily Doubles delivering correct responses for clues in the categories “Art Terms” and “Science.” In both instances, he added thousands to his score, leaving him at a marginal lead over Chuck’s $11,000 with $12,000. Still, Sam was trailing behind Monica’s $15,800 as they entered Final Jeopardy. The category was “20th Century Books” with the clue being,...

It’s not over ’til it’s over, and Friday night’s Jeopardy! contestants found that out the hard way. The episode, which aired on March 15, featured three finalists as part of its 31st Tournament of Champions series: Yogesh Raut, Troy Meyer, and Ben Chan. Coming into day four of the tournament, each of these players had already tallied one victory, but now one contestant has notched a second win, which makes him one more win away from clinching a total victory (and a spot on Jeopardy! Masters Season 2). Throughout the night, Chan trailed his fellow contestants by a wide margin. After the Jeopardy! round, he had under $2,000 and half as many correct answers as Raut and Meyer. His fortune improved a bit in Double Jeopardy!, but he still trailed the others going into Final Jeopardy! with $12,800 to Meyer’s $33,200 and Raut’s $20,400. Still, it wasn’t a runaway, so...

The last semi-final game of Jeopardy!‘s Champions Wildcard tournament proved controversial on Tuesday night (February 20), as one contestant was trumped by a “very confusing” presidential clue. Alex Gordon, a surgical resident originally from Somers, New York, faced off against Jesse Matheny, a customer success specialist originally from Huntington, Indiana, and Kat Jepson, an artist from Roanoke, Virginia, on Tuesday’s tense episode. Gordon was a favorite going into the episode, having amassed an impressive $41,500 during his two-day winning streak back in Season 39. With a spot in the finals on the line, the pressure was on for Gordon and his two opponents. Despite answering more questions correctly, Gordon trailed behind Jepson after the first round. He managed to overtake Jepson in Double Jeopardy, but a surge by Matheny changed things completely. Matheny landed a pair of true Daily Doubles, putting himself in a near runaway position. However, Gordon wasn’t...

In January of 1999, two teen movies opened back to back and kicked off what would be one of the most extraordinary years for youth-oriented movies in the history of Hollywood. Both were No. 1 at the box office their first weekend. Both boasted remarkable casts of rising stars — they even shared a star in Paul Walker. And both whipped ancient genre conventions into new combinations that made them fresh and new. Yet for all their similarities, “Varsity Blues” and “She’s All That” couldn’t have been more different: one an R-rated sports drama that tempered its inspirational coming-of-age drama with surprisingly harsh depictions of misogyny and physical and mental abuse, the other a sweet, good-natured romantic comedy nearly as innocent as a Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland vehicle from the 1940s. In their similarities and differences lies the key to why 1999 was such a great year for movies of their type — the 1939 of teen movies.

Charlize Theron’s 2002 critically panned thriller, Trapped, finds new popularity on Netflix’s Top 10
Sometimes, movies that fail to make a splash when they’re initially released find a new audience later in life. It isn’t unheard of that a movie that flopped and exhibited a low critical response can gain a cult following or even newfound popularity. John Carpenter’s career is kind of filled with movies like this. The early 2000s had seen a slew of mid-budget thrillers in an era before mega-budget franchises took over cinemas. One of those films is a 2002 psychological thriller titled Trapped.
Trapped would seemingly get lost in a sea of movies like Along Came a Spider or Enough, as well as similar crime-thriller genre movies made popular by Ashley Judd with films like Double Jeopardy, High Crimes and Twisted. According to ScreenRant, the Charlize Theron and Kevin Bacon film has found new popularity when it cracked Netflix’s Top 10 Movies along with new movies like The Equalizer 3,...

The clue read: “Each of the 10 movements of this Mussorgsky work represents a piece of art on display, created by a late friend.” Taylor rang in with, “What is Pictures at the Exhibition?” Host Ken Jennings told him, “No, sorry,” then, after no one else gave it a try, explained, “It’s Pictures at an Exhibition, I’m afraid.” Taylor remained comfortable in the lead with $16,800, to Ian’s $6,400 and Simona’s $1,200. That was also true heading into Final Jeopardy!, which only he got correct. Taylor won again and ended the game with $21,000, giving ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the July 18 episode of Jeopardy!] In the July 18 edition of Jeopardy!, two-day champ and contract compliance analyst Daniel Moore had to go up against communications manager Chelsea Watt and attorney/DJ David Bederman to add to his winnings of $39,800. However, some clue selection strategies and wagers made it an extremely close game for all the contestants involved. In the first round before break, the first Daily Double was found, which David answered correctly, allowing him to double his score to $2,000. This allowed David to maintain the lead coming out of the break with $5,000 and Daniel closely behind at $4,800. Chelsea had close to half of that with $2,400. The second Daily Double was found in Double Jeopardy, and unfortunately, Chelsea was unable to answer correctly, taking her already low score of $8,600 down by $2,000. The Daily Double was located in the literature category, which the contestants all decided not to answer, despite the great chance that ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the July 17 episode of Jeopardy!] Everyone’s talking about Barbenheimer this week, and with the July 17 episode, Jeopardy! got in on (half) the fun. (Who knows what the rest of the week might hold? Both Barbie and Oppenheimer hit theaters on July 21.) Daniel Moore, a contract compliance analyst, returned with a one day total of $25,000, to face off against retired elementary teacher Jerry Powers and librarian Leann Craumer, and during Double Jeopardy, all three were challenged by a category about J. Robert Oppenheimer. Introducing the category (and reading the clues) were two of Oppenheimer’s stars Emily Bluntand Matt Damon (filmed before the actors strike). In fact, Jerry’s first pick for the round was in that category for $1200 and it was a Video Daily Double. He wagered $1000, and Damon read, “Oppenheimer wasn’t sure why he chose this name for a nuclear test site, but ...

Wednesday night’s “Jeopardy!” contained 23 triple stumpers, meaning none of the three contestants guessed at all, making the Coryat, or final score, the lowest this season.
Competitor Collette Lee addressed the challenging game on Reddit.
“Collette here – Kristine [Rembach] and I commented on that to each other before Final, saying that we were worried we’d go viral for not knowing anything!” Lee wrote. “I personally tried to ‘keep calm and clam up’ to try to avoid ending up in the red with bad guesses but as the game wore on, especially in Double Jeopardy it was obvious we were collectively riding the struggle bus with our board!”

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the May 23 episode of Jeopardy!] Nine-day Jeopardy! champ Ben Chan took on retired museum educator Lynn Di Vito and policy communications manager Joe Leserman to continue his record-making reign and increase his total winnings of $252,600. Host Mayim Bialik joked that Chan could even someday match Ken Jennings’ streak of 65 runaway wins. However, a rocky game for Chan and a harsh ruling from the judges may jeopardize his chances of breaking that streak. Ben lost $4,200 on a true Daily Double in the first round but retained the lead going into Double Jeopardy with $3,800, Danny at $600, and Lynn with $400. Lynn secured the second Daily Double and took first place by adding $3,000 to her total of $7,200, tying with Ben. During the third Daily Double, Ben dropped $3,000 from his score of $11,200 against Lynn’s $11,600 but played a strong game leading into Final Jeopardy with $17,400, Lynn with $14,800, and $2,400 for Danny. Jeopardy!‘s current champion Hannah Wilson faced off against two new competitors in the May 11 game, but was she able to hold onto her ongoing streak? Kicking the Mayim Bialik-hosted game off with six wins under her belt, Hannah had already earned $163,801, but she was determined to continue building as she took to the podium alongside new players, Jon Carnegie and Kat Waller. A data scientist from Chicago, Hannah’s expertise was evident as she quickly buzzed in answers across the Jeopardy!, Double Jeopardy!, and Final Jeopardy! rounds. Doing well in the first two rounds, Hannah entered Final Jeopardy! with a strong $23,000 and added an additional $3,000 when she offered the correct response to the question which fell under the category “History.” The statement presented to the players read, “His epitaph, in a church in England, reads, ‘Sometime general in the army of George Washington.'” The correct response was “Who is Benedict Arnold?...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the May 8 episode of Jeopardy!] Pronunciation is everything on Jeopardy!, but there is a bit of debate over whether one contestant’s answer was actually enough in the latest episode. Data scientist Hannah Wilson returned with a three-day total of $90,601 to compete against actuary Sami Casanova and psychiatrist Juveria Zaheer, and it was in the Double Jeopardy! round that all three were ruled incorrect due to pronunciation in the category “The Quotable Alex.” The $1600 clue read, “An author & former prisoner: ‘Socialism of any type & shade leads to a total destruction of the human spirit.’” All three rang in with different pronunciations of the Russian writer Solzhenitsyn. “This is a tricky one to pronounce,” host Mayim Bialik acknowledged. This led to some debate on Reddit not just about this specific case but in general when it comes to these situations. One user thought that Hannah’s “fit within the guideline of being ...

On Oct 5, 2017, New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor published a scorching exposé titled "Harvey Weinstein Paid Off Sexual Harassment Accusers for Decades," which encouraged legions of women to come forward and share their own stories of abuse at the hands of one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. Considering the story's connection to the moviemaking industry, it was only a matter of time before the story was given the similar dramatization treatment that was done for Fox News CEO Roger Ailes in "Bombshell." The result was Emmy Award-winning director Maria Schrader's "She Said," from a script by Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Two-time Academy Award-nominee Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan star as Twohey and Kantor, delivering phenomenal performances in this film highlighting just how intense the process was to bring Weinstein to justice and call him out publicly.
