The films cinematography and production design give the film the illusion that it was taking place in Detroit, Miami and Chicago and not Los Angeles where it was filmed for budgetary reasons.
Pointy's real name is Peter. We learn this when Pointy is talking to his chef Claude in the kitchen about his trip to Florida and the fine cuisine he had enjoyed eating. This is the only time in the movie that his real name is mentioned.
The turntable in Mackin's apartment is a Technics SL-1200MKII. The Technics logo on the shell is clearly covered with a black marker though, probably due to the lack of endorsement kickback.
The films opening titles feature retro LP styled jazz covers that feature a record label on each called "TAT" which is an abbreviation of the title of the film "Thick As Thieves".
