Exclusive: An international drama series billed as the “Brazilian Succession” is being developed, with Nothing to Lose director Alexandre Avancini attached.
Diosual Television Studios, the TV arm of Diosual Entertainment, has created Whose Money Is It?, with telenovela writer Solange Castro Neves writing in collaboration with Thalma Bertozzi.
The series is an adaptation of the Brazilian non-fiction book ‘Whose Money Is It? Fear, Luck and Bad Luck: Victories and Stumbles in the Stock Market’ by Adley Piovesan and Homero Chemale.
The plan is for a three-season series, with Diosual seeking co-production and co-investment partners, with two international streamers understood to have been close to closing deals.
The plot is billed as a “a family drama with elements of action and investigation,” taking place in the financial markets of the present day with flashbacks from three decades ago.

Despite singer-songwriter Laetitia Tamko’s singular talents, her career as Vagabon nonetheless traces a familiar arc. Like Sudan Archives and Mitski before her, Tamko has evolved from a DIY indie artist—on her bracing debut EP, Persian Gardens—into something approaching a conventional pop singer. Tamko’s third studio album, Sorry I Haven’t Called, leans in a more tonally upbeat direction than her previous releases, with help from Rostam Batmanglij, who co-produced the album. The result is a serviceable enough pop effort, but much of Tamko’s edges have been sadly sanded away.
Opener “Can I Talk My Shit” is so springy and breezy that the angst and moodiness of Tamko’s past output don’t just seem far off, they feel like the creation of a completely different artist. Here and on “You Know How,” her vocals feel devoid of any distinctive characteristics and are needlessly Auto-Tuned.

Apparently determined to prove herself francophone cinema’s most inexhaustible precious resource, Virginie Efira once again lights up the screen prior to burning it down in a role that, after Justine Triet’s “Sibyl,” Paul Verhoeven’s “Benedetta” and Rebecca Zlotowski’s “Other People’s Children,” is of a type she has come to define: the strong-willed, smart fortysomething woman chafing against her society’s conformist expectations. Delphine Deloget’s debut “All to Play For” features one of Efira’s more straightforward incarnations of this dramatic type — fewer sly kinks, no arch winks. But she is no less riveting and lovely for it and in Deloget’s confident, gentle grip, she turns in one of her most committed performances, all the more moving for its commitment to valorizing the kind of woman seldom treated on screen with such respect and compassion.

Other People’s Children: Deloget Butts with Bureaucracy in Familial Drama
Virginie Efira continues to explore the arduous spectrum of contemporary motherhood in her latest film, Rien à perdre, the directorial debut of Delphine Deloget. While the English language title, All to Play For might not correctly convey the film’s spirit, the actual translation, Nothing to Lose, is a better indication of the (somewhat) impossible scenario a single mother finds herself thrust into when the social welfare system intervenes in the rearing of her youngest child. Deloget seems intent on showcasing the frustrating errors committed by both parties claiming a stake in one very hapless child’s interests but the foundations of the narrative tend feel a bit exhaustingly soppy by the time the film leads us to a questionable resolution without configuring the requisite desperation to justify itself.…...

It’s Christmas morning for cinephiles. As per tradition, the Cannes Film Festival unveiled its 2023 selections in a press conference early this morning––at least for those of us stateside. Now in its 76th edition, this year’s event will take place May 16-27.
With Killers of the Flower Moon and Indiana Jones’ fifth and supposedly final outing previously confirmed, both out of competition, new highlights in competition include Todd Haynes‘ May December, Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest, Alice Rohrwacher’s La chimera, Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s About Dry Grasses, and Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves. Additional selections include Víctor Erice’s long-awaiting return to filmmaking Cerrar los ojos, Steve McQueen’s documentary Occupied City, Takeshi Kitano’s Kubi, Kleber Mendonça Filho’s Pictures of Ghosts, plus two films from both Wang Bing and Wim Wenders.

The anticipation is running high at the Cannes Film Festival’s packed annual press conference on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, where festival chief Thierry Fremaux is expected to unveil the bulk of the Official Selection for the 76th edition.
The festival has been teasing cinephiles with splashy announcements about Martin Scorsese returning to the Croisette with “Killers of the Flower Moon,” 38 years after winning best director with “After Hour,” as well as Disney’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” and Pedro Almodóvar’s short film, “Strange Way of Life.”
But Fremaux, who is leading the presser with the festival’s new president Iris Knobloch, is expected to have saved a few high-profile surprises, including Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City,” starring an ensemble cast that includes Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson and Tilda Swinton; Todd Haynes’ “May December” with Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore; Karim Aïnouz’s Henry VIII...

Johnny Paycheck would have turned 83 this past Monday. In 1977, he scored three consecutive Top 10 country songs, including his biggest hit, the No. 1 “Take This Job and Shove It.” But while Paycheck, who died at age 64 in 2003, is synonymous with the song about sticking it to — and flipping off — The Man, it was actually written by David Allan Coe. Coe cut his version for his 1978 Family Album and performed it frequently in his shows, including on the latter-day concert document Biketoberfest ’01: Live From the Iron Horse Saloon.

Avicii used his set at Tomorrowland this weekend as a platform to debut new music – that much was to be expected. What we didn’t see coming, however, was that he’d gradually begin to adopt tropical house as his style of choice.
Near the end of his set, Avicii premiered three IDs with the working titles “Some Nights,” “The Way It Should” and “Nothing To Lose,” and all of them had distinctly tropical elements. While a slide towards the genre could be traced back to his last couple of releases, it seems to be a bold statement for such a mainstager to abandon their usual style in favor of something so relatively obscure.
That said, characteristic of artists like Kygo, Thomas Jack and Will Sparks, tropical house has grown in popularity substantially over the past few years. Being that Avicii’s sound has leaned more towards acoustic instrumentals in...

I dunno how to properly gauge this first clip from Ralph Ziman’s “Kite,” the adaptation of the popular Japanese anime about a teen hitgirl out for revenge. There’s something a bit off about it, but hey, it’s only a minute-plus clip, and the rest of the movie could be better. They sure went for gruesome, what with the bullet-through-the-hand gag and all. The thing with the old lady was just downright awkward, though. For some reason, I thought they had shot this thing in another language then dubbed it into English, but no? Never Underestimate a Girl with Nothing to Lose. Based on the groundbreaking, cult classic anime, Kite tells the story of Sawa (India Eisley, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” Underworld: Awakening), a young woman living in a corrupt society where crime and gangs terrorize the streets. Jose Mourinho tried to play down the pressure on his side after his side was drawn to play away at Manchester City in the fifth round having overcome Stoke one-nil at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
“It’s good. Our priority for the season is to improve, and to improve you need difficult games. We take on the best team twice in fifteen days. We travel to the best stadium, where they smash every team, where they have scored four, five goals against the big teams like Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United.”
“We have nothing to lose.”
The Blues boss felt his deserved to win more comfortably than the one-nil score line as Chelsea beat Stoke at Stamford Bridge to progress to the fifth round of the Fa Cup on Sunday.
“We played a very good game. The one-zero does not reflect the quality and dominance of our game.

You may not have wanted a follow-up to Justin Bieber's recent naked guitar photo, but the boys of Emblem3 are giving you one anyway.
The "X Factor" alums Keaton Stromberg, Wesley Stromberg, and Drew Chadwick posted a twitpic on Wednesday (August 14) mocking the recent Bieber Nsfw photo. The pic showed them naked and standing in front of a window with nothing but musical instruments covering their goods, and they even went so far as to one-up the Canadian pop star by throwing in a keyboard for good measure.
"Hey @justinbieber, we're in Canada ready for the jam sesh!" the caption read.
So in the battle of the nude musical instrument photo, who reigns supreme: Bieber or Emblem3?
Emblem3's debut album, "Nothing to Lose," was released on July 30 with its lead single, "Chloe (You're the One I Want)," which dropped last April.

With uncertainty surrounding the Jack Reacher's movie future, James looks at which of Lee Child's books might work as a sequel...
Last month saw the long awaited on screen debut for Lee Child’s literary creation Jack Reacher, a film which had been raising eyebrows across the globe since its announcement.
First off, there was the choice of which of Lee Child’s 14 Jack Reacher adventures then published would be used for the character’s debut film - but we’ll get to that later. By far, the news that caused the greatest fuss was the casting of the man who would fill his not so small shoes.
Casting Jack Reacher was always going to be a nightmare. The character’s physical appearance, which had been repeatedly played up in Child’s pages was simply impossible to replicate. It could be argued then that...

Ever since breaking onto the music scene in 2003 with their self-titled “debut” album after a lesser known name change, alternative rockers Billy Talent have been surpassing expectations with every new release. Maturing with grace much like a fine wine, their fourth release Dead Silence is no different, being some of their most mesmerizing work yet.
Abandoning the Led Zeppelin album naming convention of just numbering each CD – i.e. Billy Talent, Billy Talent II, Billy Talent III – Dead Silence improves upon the trademark Billy Talent sound in every way possible.
As an album overall, the most prevalent reaction to hit me was “Dead Silence sounds exactly like every other Billy Talent CD,” which I’ve emphatically relished about every other album as well. Billy Talent has found a dynamic sound which is both technically envied and pleasingly unique, perfecting their method with an “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mentality.

I think so! When asked if he'd be up to the challenge, the 28-year-old athlete with the body of a Greek God told HollywoodLife.com, "If they ask me, then I will definitely think about it. The last man standing gets voted out, paving the way for Sunday's female-dominated finale.

Give him credit where it's due. If nothing else, the ludicrously entertaining Greg "Tarzan" Smith exited "Survivor: One World" exactly as you'd want him to: wearing an extra-tight bloodstained tank top and dirty panties on his head.
After almost 40 days and innumerable twist and turns along the way, Tarzan's shot at the million-dollar prize ended Wednesday night just short of the elite final five. Since he was the last man standing, Tarzan's exit marks the end of the season's battle of the sexes — a battle the women won decisively, despite a very rocky start. Now, only five players remain going into Sunday night's season finale: loudmouth Alicia, timid Christina, measured Sabrina, cowgirl Chelsea and Kim, long considered the front-runner to win the game.

Everybody's talking about Montreal-born film actress Jessica Paré and her recent turn as 'Megan', the new wife of advertising executive 'Don Draper', on the Season 5 premiere of AMC's "Mad Men", March 25, 2012.
The episode saw a record high of 3.5 million viewers, with Paré delivering the 1960's hit "Zou Bisou Bisou" at a square-looking birthday party for Don.
The blandness of the people attending Don's party, reminded some fans of Blake Edwards' 'swinging sixties' comedy "The Party", when Claudine Longet launched into the song "Nothing To Lose" for an equally bland audience.

Back in the "Carnivale" days Clancy Brown turned in a mesmerizing performance as Brother Justin, and now that word has come he'll be returning to the cloth for Slasher Films' Nothing to Lose, we couldn't be happier. Ethan Peck has also signed on to the project as a townsperson with a past.
Per THR Anne Heche and James Tupper are already on board for the movie, which centers on a family whose journey toward a better life in a small town is savagely derailed by a charismatic but emotionally conflicted and evil pastor (Brown, pictured right).
“He’s in one of the movies we remember as kids that make us do what we do now,” said producer Rob Eric, referring to Brown’s memorable turn, to the genre fanboy crowd at least, as the Kurgan in 1986's action fantasy Highlander. “He’s evil to the point that he believes he is doing good.

By Alan Kelly - In the first of my interviews on publishing, I talk to small-press CEO Monica S. Kuebler about Burning Effigy Press.
Hailing from Toronto, Canada Monica S. Kuebler has worked as a writer, performance artist and spoken-word artist, appearing on stages everywhere from New York to Chicago to San Francisco and London. This hard-working polymath is the managing editor of successful horror magazine Rue Morgue, the author of four chapbooks and the CEO of her own micro press Burning Effigy Press. Burning Effigy publishes a variety of fiction which includes Lovecraftian, speculative and atmospheric horror and will be expanding into EBooks early next year.
Monica tells me about the Catch-22’s of publishing, having to juggle her projects around a full-time career, whether she would accept corporate backing and the changes she is pushing for at Rue Morgue.
You have an interesting roster of writers over at Burning Effigy Press.

"Go That Far" crooner Bret Michaels has set the rumor about him having affair with Miley Cyrus' mom, Leticia "Tish" Cyrus, straight. Although his rep has previously debunked the story, Bret apparently thought that he should come forward with the denial himself.

And Bret seemed to be comfortable enough discussing the matter as he launched a further explanation. "It started out with me and Miley simply working on a song ('Nothing to Lose') together," Bret started. "Her mom, Tish, likes 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn', the first concert Miley ever saw was Poison, and so they wanted to remake it for the new record."
