Spanish drama about a group of actresses at a stage company arrive in a village resulting in fateful consecuences
ma-cortes30 April 2021
A team of vedettes of a Spanish Revue arrives in a Castillian village to play the Revista titled : "El Carroussel Del Amor" with plenty of picaresque songs and erotic dances , but they are limited by the strict standards of the repressed society , suffering a real isolation from the judgement submitted by the ultra-conservatory women , even impeding them to stay at hotel or boarding house . Finally , things go wrong when there happens an unfortunate tragedy .

A dramatic and choral film regarding the vicissitudes about a group of Spanish Revista, concerning social habits , and deep repression of the Spanish society of the Sixties submitted to rigid moral criteria of the Catholic rules . As the beautiful girls are badly received , as the women villagers treating them lousily with envy , contempt and eventually agressiveness . Although here the priest well played by Adolfo Marsillach understands the girls , deeming they come only to work . The film displays a star-studded cast with plenty of familiar faces and great secondaries , such as : Adolfo Marsillach as an understanding priest , Trini Alonso as an obstinate entrepreneur , Luis Marin as a jealous boyfriend , Valentín Tornos "Don Cicuta" as the stubborn entrepreneur , the good-tempered Jesús Guzman who is still working at his ninety , Candida Losada, Jose Sepulveda , Fabián Conde , Jose Carabias and a lot of actresses playing the vedettes -some of them actually Revista girls- such as : Rosanna Yanni , Maria Silva , Elena Maria Tejeiro , Carmen de Lirio , Vicky Lagos , Nuria Torray, Charo Soriano and the incombustible Marisa Paredes , Almodovar's regular .

It displays an atmospheric cinematography by cameraman Francisco Fraile , shot on location in Navalcarnero . As well as a lively and evocative musical score by Carmelo Bernaola , including some songs as "Sola" performed by Nuria Torray , "Tra ca tra" , and the amusing "Novia de Tutankamen" , in which the chorus girls dance and sing and Rosanna Yanni as main chorist . The picture was professionally directed by Antoni Ribas at his film debut . Antonio was a Spanish writer/producer/filmmaker known for directing some movies about Catalunya history , such as : "Victoria La gran aventura de un pueblo", "Victoria 2 La Disbaixa" , "Victoria 3 Seny and Rauxa" , "Catalans Universal" , "Tierra De Cañones" and his best movie : "La Ciuda Cremada". Rating : 6/10 . Passable and acceptable . The flick will appeal to Spanish cinema fans .

Changed Spain

Like an Italian film. So honest and great to watch. I'm watching it in Spanish without subtitles. How Spanish culture has changed. This is supposed to be radical 60s. Even the Spanish sounds different to my ear. The directing is so honest, even the edits that misfire are great. So nice see a movie that was made to show some honest people. Always hot under the collar - - Spanish love... Lol. Always having to stop somebody from hitting somebody. Also, keeps cutting between 3 even four mini plots going on at the same time. Interesting approach. One of the girls attacks the priest with a brick after the mass (implied) attack on the show Girls by about 10 men. They even use a 57 chevy wagon for an ambulance... Nice touch. A lot in this movie. Watch it in Spanish.
