“General Hospital” star Finola Hughes admitted to Soap Opera Digest that she’s “notoriously bad about putting together a reel” for Daytime Emmy consideration. But with help from a producer she entered scenes from “a few months ago where I accidentally shot a 15-year-old because it was Halloween and I didn’t recognize them, and that storyline hit Anna hard because she’s law enforcement and that’s the last thing you want to be doing.” Will that finally win her her second Emmy after a long, long wait?

Hughes is loved by the television academy, having now been nominated 11 times for her work in daytime. She has especially been on a roll lately, picking up seven nominations in the past 10 years. But she hasn’t won any of those. In fact, her only Emmy for playing Anna Devane on...

“The Talk” is going silent. CBS is ending the long-running daytime chat show, which will get an abbreviated final season (its 15th) this fall, before signing off for good with what it’s calling a “celebratory sendoff” in December.
Rumors of the show’s end have been swirling for months, but CBS made it official to the show’s cast and crew on Friday morning. The news comes as CBS and the NAACP are developing a new daytime soap opera under their content partnership, “The Gates,” a partnership with P&g Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. “The Gates,” which “follows the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community,” is seen as a potential replacement for “The Talk.”

“Mary & George” is the delicious new historical drama from British playwright D.C. Moore, who swaps out stuffy history lessons for a raucous, bawdy ride that fans of “The Favourite” will love. Like that Oscar-winning movie, this limited series on Starz focuses on an era of British royalty that is little-known to American audiences.
Julianne Moore plays the Countess of Buckingham, who groomed her son (Nicholas Galitzine) to seduce King James I (Tony Curran) in an attempt to curry favor, power, titles, and riches in 1600s England. In the titular role of Mary, Moore delivers another powerhouse performance. She owns every scene she’s in and proves once more why she is one of the best actresses working today. Critics agree, “Mary & George” is the Moore show.
Sophie Butcher (Empire) observed: “Moore is on great form here. She spits out profanities and ultimatums in a clipped, crisp accent, wearing...

With CBS in “accelerated development” on “The Gates,” which, if picked up to series, would become the network’s first new daytime soap opera since launching “The Bold and the Beautiful” in 1987, many in the entertainment industry have questioned what that means for “The Talk,” the daytime talk show that replaced the long-running drama series “As The World Turns,” which concluded its run after more than 54 years on the network in September 2010.
Currently in its 14th season, “The Talk” ranks as the third most watched daytime talk show, behind only ABC’s “The View” and syndicated talker “Live with Kelly and Mark.” Despite that, the show is currently down double digits among Total Viewers and the key Women 18-49 sales demographic, often ranking at the bottom half in both categories among all daytime broadcast shows and has remained CBS’ least-watched and lowest-rated daytime series overall since it premiered in October 2010.

“Days of our Lives” fans will see an unfamiliar face in a familiar role when soap newcomer Natasha Hall temporarily replaces Jessica Serfaty as Sloan Petersen for at least three episodes during the week of March 4-8, 2024.
Hall, best known for playing Yvette over three episodes in “The Kominsky Method” during the third season of the Netflix original series, will appear in scenes alongside several Salemites, including Jamie Martin Mann (Tate), Emily O Brien (Theresa) and Greg Vaughan (Eric), among others.
Soap Opera Digest, which first reported the news, did not provide a reason for the temporary recast. Meanwhile, the current storyline sees Sloan dealing with the guilt of knowing that Jude, the child she and Eric are raising, is actually Nicole (Arianne Zucker) and Eric’s biological baby.

It says a lot about Julianne Moore’s talent that the film that won her an Oscar doesn’t even crack her a list of her top ten best.
After becoming a familiar face at the Academy Awards with four nominations between 1997 and 2002, Moore received her richly deserved Best Actress trophy for playing a woman with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014’s “Still Alice.” Moore is predictably excellent in that movie, hitting all the right notes over the course of its tearjerking 100-minute runtime. And although that prestige picture finally got her the gold at the ceremony, there’s plenty more interesting, unique, and memorable works in her filmography to celebrate.
The child of a military family and a theater student at Boston University, Moore began her career winning a Daytime Emmy for her work on the soap opera “As the World Turns” in 1988. A 1990 theater production of “Uncle Vanya” got...
