"Perry Mason" creator Erle Stanley Gardner was so angry at this point about the changes to his character and books wrought by Hollywood that he took away Warner Bros.' rights to the characters, although the studio still owned the rights to the story. Gardner did not authorize any projects starring his Perry Mason character until former actress Gail Patrick, a friend of Gardner's, approached him with the idea of producing a TV series starring the Mason character, with the promise of staying faithful to Gardner's characters and books. He agreed, she kept her promise and the resulting series, Perry Mason (1957), became one of the most successful in the history of television.
The start of the production was delayed to allow May Robson to finish her role in Four Wives (1939).
Based on Erle Stanley Gardner's novel "The Case of the Dangerous Dowager" but with all the characters' names changed.
The title is not a riff on the Broadway musical "Annie Get Your Gun" since that didn't open until 1946.
