Simu Liu may be starring in one of the biggest movies of 2023, but no one will mistake “One True Loves” for that honorific. But, somehow, this rom-com adaptation is more plastic than “Barbie.”
Liu leads “One True Loves,” the big screen adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s 2016 novel of the same name. Liu is Sam, a high school music teacher who finally lands the woman of his dreams, childhood crush Emma (Phillipa Soo). The only issue? Emma’s first husband Jesse (Luke Bracey) was presumed dead after a fatal helicopter crash, and miraculously is rescued four years later, proving to be alive and very ready to rekindle his relationship with Emma right before her wedding to Sam.
If the premise sounds like the stuff of beach reads, it is. The Reid cinematic universe is rapidly expanding, with Prime Video series “Daisy Jones & the Six” having gone viral and fans...

Peacock has canceled the two YA series, ending One Of Us Is Lying after its second season and Vampire Academy after its first. According to Deadline, which reported the news, Peacock brass was happy with the quality of both series but couldn’t justify renewing the shows, given the two shows’ viewership stats. Matt Grace/Peacock Based on the novel of the same name by Karen M. Peacock is reworking its slate, and it's bad news for fans of YA dramas Vampire Academy and One of Us Is Lying.
Deadline reported Friday night that both series had been canceled after their most recent runs on the streaming service.
Vampire Academy came from Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries) and was expected to be a big hit for the service, but Deadline notes that the numbers didn't justify a second season.
"St. Vladmir's Academy isn't just any boarding school — it's a hidden place where vampire royals are educated and half-human teens train to protect them from the savage 'Strigoi' vampires who would like to see them destroyed," reads the logline for the series.
Vampire Academy stars Daniela Nieves (Snowfall) as Royal Moroi vampire Lissa Dragomir, Sisi Stringer (Mortal Kombat) as Rose's Dhampir Guardian Rose Hathaway, and Kieron Moore (Sex Education) Dhampir Guardian Dimitri Belikov.

One of Us Is Lying Season 2 is a significant step up from its predecessor.
Armed with a compelling mystery, excellent characters, and just enough darkness, it is one of the year's best shows.
TV Fanatic got the chance to chat with showrunner Erica Saleh and cast members Annalisa Cochrane (Addy), Chibuikem Uche (Cooper), Marianly Tejada (Bronwyn), Cooper Van Grootel (Nate), and Jessica McLeod (Janae).
Saleh teases that One of Us Is Lying Season 2 picks up in the immediate aftermath of the message from Simon Says.
The teenagers vowing to go their separate ways after Jake's (Barrett Carnahan) death is now impossible because they've been forced back together to find out who is texting them.
e
The showrunner cautions that they also need to find out how much this person knows, but through all of that, the teenagers have to asses just how much they trust each other.

Telling another mystery after the original is dead and buried is tough.
Many mystery series struggle to follow up that first big hook, but One of Us Is Lying Season 2 manages to elevate the mystery and the stakes to leave viewers with a sense of dread.
TV Fanatic got the chance to screen the entire season ahead of launch, and you'll be glad to know that the series takes things in a drastically different direction.
That's not to say there were any significant flaws with the first season. It's just that taking things in a different direction as opposed to reinventing what made the first season successful is a sign that the creatives are confident in their storytelling.

One of Us Is Lying is one of the best teen dramas in recent memory.
It had a carefully constructed mystery, excellent character development, and one of the most satisfying finales in years.
TV Fanatic got the chance to chat with Annalisa Cochrane (Addy), Chibuikem Uche (Cooper), Marianly Tejada (Bronwyn), Cooper van Grootel (Nate), and Barrett Carnahan (Jake).
We are about to delve into spoiler territory, so head over to Peacock if you haven't watched the entire series. It's eight episodes of pure fun! The best part about it is that it is best served binged.
I asked the cast what attracted them to the series, and for Marianly, she felt that Bronwyn was a Latin X character she hadn't often seen on-screen, describing the character as a "nerd, with a little bit of sass."
"She's very unapologetic about being a brainiac. And I feel like there's shyness around that...

Elite-turned-One of Us Is Lying showrunner Darío Madrona knows a thing or two about fictional teens and murder mysteries. But don’t mistake the high schoolers in the new Peacock drama (now streaming its first three episodes) for the glam partiers in the Netflix soap.
In fact, if the kids of Elite could give the One of Us Is Lying characters some advice, “they would probably tell them to enjoy themselves more and get out a little bit, maybe do some drugs and hook up with each other,” Madrona jokes with a laugh.

One of Us Is Lying finally has a premiere date.
The highly-anticipated teen drama launches Thursday, October 7, on Peacock.

As a result, the rollout plan is as follows:
Episodes 1-3 will drop Thursday, October 7
Episodes 4-6 on Thursday, October 14
Episodes 7-8 on Thursday, October 21
It's a different way to do things, and HBO Max successfully shared some of its shows that way.

It’s often difficult for child actors to move on to become successful adult actors. The child acting days leave them tired, worn out, and sometimes unable to break the mold of the character that made them famous as a child. Many adults find it difficult to watch a child star in a more mature role, and some child stars make it difficult on themselves because they were unable to handle the pressures that were placed on them during their formative years. Cooper Van Grootel, however, is not one of those child actors. He’s spent most of his life working, and

Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.
It's a convincing hook, right?
It sounds like The Breakfast Club meets Elite, and the new teaser seems to back that up.
And, if you're tired of waiting week-to-week for answers, you'll be happy to know that Peacock releases all episodes at once.
That means you can get your binge on and dig into one of the most promising shows of the year when it launches.

"You've got a lot of work to do before you're ready to race." Netflix has unveiled a new official trailer for the Australian coming-of-age racing movie originally known as Go!. They have since retitled it to the more generic Go Karts, even though it's the exact same film. The feel-good family coming-of-age film is about a wild young man named Jack who moves to a small town in Western Australia with his mother. He takes up competitive go-kart racing, but must work with an eccentric team to help overcome his own problems and win the championship. Starring William Lodder as Jack, and a cast with Frances O'Connor, Anastasia Bampos, Darius Amarfio-Jefferson, Richard Roxburgh, Cooper Van Grootel, and Dan Wyllie. This actually looks much better than it sounds, might be be a fun one to watch sometime. Go karts are cool. Here's the official Us trailer (+ Australian poster) for Owen Trevor's Go Karts,...

‘Bad Boys for Life’ (Photo: Sony Pictures).
Seventeen years after the Bad Boys sequel the third edition in the franchise has put Will Smith back in the winners’ circle after he starred in Ang Lee’s 2019 flop Gemini Man.
Sony Pictures’ Bad Boys for Life opened in top spot in a buoyant weekend as exhibitors and distributors donated two dollars of every ticket sold on Sunday at participating cinemas to three charities involved in bushfire relief.
Sunday takings totaled $6 million, so based on an average ticket price of about $14.50 that would mean 420,000 admissions and a total donation of around $840,000.
“I really take my hat off to the distributors, exhibitors and representative bodies that were able to swiftly come together and create such a powerful and unified industry initiative,” Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace Gm Alex Temesvari tells If. “It really gave cinemas a chance to contribute in a meaningful way.”
