For the Australian alt-dance trio Rüfüs Du Sol, playing Coachella feels like returning to a home away from home. Composed of Tyrone Lindqvist on vocals, Jon George on keys, and James Hunt on drums, the group had long dreamed of playing the California festival before they showcased their album Bloom, a celestial 11-track house album, at Coachella in 2016, followed by a live set in the desert in 2019.

Jamie xx has teamed up with Honey Dijon to dedicate a new song to the “Baddy on the Floor.” Stream the summer banger below.
The track’s release follows its live debut at Jamie xx’s 2021 All Points East set. It’s the first collaboration between the two DJ/producers, who started working on “Baddy on the Floor” over video calls during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In an interview with BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, Jamie xx confirmed he is putting the finishing touches on his follow-up to 2015’s In Colour. The new album is due out later this year.
“Baddy on the Floor” follows a string of loosies from Jamie xx. In January, he released “It’s So Good” after 2022’s “Let’S Do It Again” and “Kill Dem” and “Idontknow” in 2020.

From Begin Again to Yesterday, Sing Street to Almost Famous, music-centered movies have been bringing film lovers joy for years. It’s a sub-genre that helps us resonate and connect with the film differently, heavily shaping our emotions. The Greatest Hits, directed by Ned Benson, merges music with time travel to create an entirely unique approach. The story follows grieving Harriet, who discovers that certain songs can transport her back in time – literally. She uses music to relive the past, through romantic memories of her former boyfriend who died in an accident. Torn between attempting to change the past in order to save him or moving on with a potential new love interest in her life, Harriet’s complex journey is one full of emotion. Tremendously well acted by Lucy Boynton and featuring great tracks alongside a truly unique story, The Greatest Hits is an emotional yet toe-tappingly fantastic exploration of grief,...

Writer/director Ned Benson captivated audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, and beyond in 2014 with his astute, intimate look at a relationship torn apart by tragedy. Although The Greatest Hits technically marks Benson’s sophomore feature as writer/director, in a way, it’s also his fourth.
Conceived and shot as two films simultaneously, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her were later edited into a single film; Benson’s The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them, which premiered at Cannes and opened in the U.S. in September of that year, with Him and Her later releasing together as a double feature the following month. A familiar sub-genre of time travel-movies has characters going into the past to see a loved one who has died. Writer and director Ned Benson gives that idea a musical twist In The Greatest Hits. Harriet (Lucy Boynton) was in the same car crash that killed her boyfriend, Max (David Corenswet), two years before. Now whenever she hears songs they listened to together, she is carried back to the first time they experienced that music. Weighed down with grief, every night she listens to LPs, labeled “Tested” and “Untested,” searching for a way back to a moment she can alter to save Max’s life. Or, as her potential new romance, David (Justin H. Min), tells her, “So you just sit in this room, go back in time and hang out with your dead boyfriend.”
Yes, she does, and it’s an intriguing premise. Benson deftly combines the time travel,...

Jamie xx is back with the single “It’s So Good,” his first piece of new solo music in over a year.
“It’s So Good” is released as the soundtrack to the latest Chanel Coco Crush campaign, and even us plebeians can feel the luxury fashion tie-in. The song begins with a vocal sample proclaiming its title, before it’s taken over by a sleek, uptempo beat that feels tailor-made — no pun intended — for the Paris Fashion Week catwalk.
Stream “It’s So Good” below.
Jamie’s last single was 2022’s “Kill Dem,” though he’s also lent production work to his xx bandmates Oliver Sim and Romy on their respective solo albums. Jamie’s been teasing the long-awaited follow-up to his 2015 stone-cold classic In Colour, while a new xx album is coming down the pipeline as well.

Romy has officially branched out from The xx with Mid Air, her first-ever solo album. The project is out now via Young.
Like much of The xx members’ solo releases, Mid Air is a dance album. Romy worked with producers Fred again.., Stuart Price, and xx bandmate Jamie xx for the record, which a press release describes as a “love letter” to queer clubs. Still, its 11 songs also deal with heavy subject matter including grief and identity. According to Romy, the record is full of “emotional music to dance to.”
Mid Air begins with lead single “Loveher,” the first song written for the project. The cheerful queer love song comes with an equally wholesome background story: After Romy and Fred again.. were paired up to write songs for other artists, “Fred asked me, who could this be for?” the singer recalled. “And I tentatively said… Maybe me?’” From there, work...

Celebrated Brooklyn artist L’Rain has returned with her first new song in two years, “New Year’s UnResolution.”
Produced alongside Andrew Lapin and Ben Chapoteau-Katz, “New Year’s UnResolution” feels anchored by a freewheeling pop sensibility. Romy of The xx has shared a new single called “Enjoy Your Life,” a sentimental ode to living optimistically. Listen to the track below.
“Enjoy Your Life” samples Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s song “La Vita.” One evening, when Romy attended a concert by the artist, she was moved by the line “My mother says to me, ‘enjoy your life,’” particularly because her mother passed away when she was 11. With that piece of advice as its centerpiece, Romy’s latest single soundtracks a concerted effort to let go of fear and appreciate all the world has to offer.
Produced by Fred again.., Stuart Price, and Jamie xx, “Enjoy Your Life” comes with a music video directed by Romy’s wife, Vic Lentaigne, that splices old images of the singer’s mother with clips of the artist driving with the windows down, swimming in the ocean, and dancing in the club — living her best life,...

French filmmaker Romain Gavras is best known to the screen-watching world thanks to his arresting and visually ambitious music videos, which have included Jamie xx’s “Gosh,” Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild” and M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls,” among various others. Ultra HD puts Stanley Kubrick’s second feature film in a new light — his B&w images of New York lend a ‘Weegee’ flavor to the tale of a prizefighter who comes to the rescue of a dance hall girl. Kubrick does better sticking to the urban streets he knows so well; the cast scores via his strong direction and art museum-quality images. The post-dubbed soundtrack is the weak link, and perhaps Kubrick’s somewhat awkward flashback gear changes. But for 1955 he’s definitely a talent on the way. Kino’s disc carries an analytical commentary by Imogen Sara Smith.

Jamie xx is back with “Let’s Do It Again,” his first original solo release in two years – and he’s picking up right where he left off.
“I started making this tune last year, just as it felt like we might all be able to start doing the things we love again,” he shared in a statement. The track’s skittering tempo ricochets across a nearly four-minute run time as “Let’s Do It Again” builds around the hypnotic, euphoric sentiment of being high on love.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t seen the first two episodes of “Euphoria” Season 2.
In HBO’s “Euphoria,” music isn’t just a supplementary factor to the plot — it’s arguably as important as the characters themselves. For proof, look no further than the titles of the episodes — most are named after songs, like Birdman and Lil Wayne’s “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” (Season 1 Episode 2), Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s “’03 Bonnie and Clyde” (Season 1 Episode 5) and Bob Dylan’s “Tryin’ to Get to Heaven” (Season 2 Episode 1). But more than anything, the show’s intense cocktail of high school drama, countless drugs, in-your-face violence and unrequited romance lends itself perfectly to a stellar soundtrack.
Complemented by a beautiful original score from Labrinth, music supervisor Jen Malone has expertly selected needle drops from across the musical spectrum to further the characters’ emotions and connect with the show’s audience, from...

When it comes to lowered expectations in pop, there probably isn’t a better candidate than the Avalanches’ third record. The Australian Edm combo’s debut, Since I Left You, took the art of constructing music out of samples to a heightened level of craft; that patchwork quilt of music was one of 2000’s kickiest albums. Nearly two decades passed before we heard from the Avalanches again, and when we did, time seemed to have passed them by: 2016’s Wildflower was a far less satisfying grab-bag of voices, sound effects...

The Avalanches have teamed with Leon Bridges for their new track “Interstellar Love,” the latest single from the Australian duo’s upcoming album We Will Always Love You.
The track features a sample of Alan Parsons Project’s “Eye in the Sky” and is inspired — like the album itself — by the story of astronomer Carl Sagan and his wife Ann Druyan capturing their romance on tape and sending it into space as part of the Voyager’s Golden Record.
“Leon is an incredible singer, with just the most beautiful voice.

Park Hye Jin’s 2018 debut Ep, If U Want It, knit together sleek, understated house and brusque hip-hop to great effect. She sang and rapped in both English and her native Korean, throwing out jabbing, chanted phrases in blasé monotone over stubby keyboard loops and no-frills drum programming. Songs like “ABC” and “I Don’t Care” served to demonstrate how much a gifted producer can accomplish with very few ingredients.

Jamie xx has released the one-take visual for his latest club track, “Idontknow.” The video stars Belfast dancer and choreographer Oona Doherty, who also co-directed the clip with Luca Truffarelli.
Filmed in Belfast in March 2020 — the night before Northern Ireland went into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic — the visual sees Doherty performing an anxious dance through the dark city streets. Midway through the clip, she looks down at her phone and has a spiraling response to what she sees on the screen. The video ends with Doherty encountering a friend and embracing.
