- Allen graduated from Kickapoo High School in Springfield, MO, Class of 1981. He was involved in school plays and performed as a dancing sailer in the musical Carousel. Allen graduated one year prior to Brad Pitt.
- Allen's first television appearance was in the mid-to-late 60s (in kindergarten) on a popular local Saturday morning television show hosted by Joe Pinner on WIS-TV, Channel 10 in Columbia, South Carolina. The show was titled "The Mr. Knozit Show." The show ended in 2000.
- Played the narrator in junior high school production of "If Boys Wore Skirts.".
- First memory of a performance in a play was in elementary school. It was "Stone Soup.".
- Allen participated in Seasons 1 & 2 of Insurrection Media, Sundance NOW's crime-drama podcast series "Exeter"as voice over character's Firm and Raymond Langley. Other Voice Over work includes Banging of the Shrew and Narration for Contempo Ballet and the Olly Brown Show web series.
- During the 80's, Allen worked in singing telegrams in Dallas, TX for which he presented celebrity telegrams to Joanna Worley and Robert Plant. Later, while visiting New York City he went to a performance of Torch Song Trilogy and ran into Joanna Worley in the audience who remembered his singing telegram performance.
