While, Hulu is not as flashy as some of the other streaming services like Netflix, Max, and Disney+, it has a solid library of shows that are both originals and licensed through various studios. Regarding sci-fi shows, Hulu doesn’t have any big names like 3 Body Problem or Westworld, but it makes up for that by carrying some great new and old shows like Devs and The X-Files, which were loved by millions of people. So, we thought of making a list of the best sci-fi TV shows you can find on Hulu right now.

After a delay due to Covid, the third season of The Orville debuted on Hulu last summer, but fans have been anxiously awaiting word of the series’ fate ever since. The Orville isn’t cheap to produce and isn’t exactly a ratings juggernaut, which means that season 4 is far from guaranteed. Still, the sci-fi series has a passionate fanbase and while the possibility of its return may be slight, it still exists.
TVLine‘s Matt Mitovich asked Craig Erwich, President of ABC Entertainment and Hulu & Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals, about the possibility of The Orville season 4. “We don’t have anything to share right now,” Erwich said. “It’s a great show and I know that the fans loved having it back in their lives. And Seth [MacFarlane] did a great job, uniquely as he can, in front of and behind the camera. But we don’t have anything to share right now.

"The Orville," a comedy series inspired by "Star Trek," is the story of a group of Planetary Union members who set off to explore new worlds in the 25th century. For two seasons the series created by Seth MacFarlane aired on Fox. After a three-year hiatus, lengthened by the global pandemic, viewers finally got a third season. This time around, the show was re-titled "The Orville: New Horizons," and it moved from Fox to Hulu.
MacFarlane explained the move from network to streaming in a statement at the time (via TVLine):
" ... as the show has evolved and become more ambitious production-wise, I determined that I would not be able to deliver episodes until 2020, which would be challenging for the network. So we began to discuss how best to support the third season in a way that worked for the show."

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 9
When The Orville: New Horizons was introduced eight weeks ago, it appeared to be everything you’d want to see was on the horizon. It was shiny, big, bold, exciting, and most importantly: it introduced new ingredients that promised to take the show in directions it had yet to explore.
Yet it would be all for naught if the scripts didn’t bring that same revitalized energy, or take any chances in terms of the story. If New Horizons lacked vision, then this could easily be an overinflated last horizon for the show.Proving once again that the writing team had a cohesiveness that makes this third season easily the strongest, “Domino” opens ominously on the rainy planet of Krill, where Chancelor Teleya (Michaela McManus) and a Moclan delegation meet to discuss an alliance against the Planetary Union.

This article contains spoilers for The Orville: New Horizons and Star Trek.
With a team composed of comedic writers from Seth MacFarlane’s catalog of animated shows, and Star Trek veterans such as Brannon Braga and David A. Goodman, The Orville: New Horizons has been leaning further away from the comedy, and more toward the “Trek” lately.
That isn’t meant to insinuate that The Orville is derivative, as many of the comparisons have come from the same writing team who created the idea first. However, it does seem that they’ve often used successful character dynamics, tropes, or story beats from their past writing, even perhaps improving upon them the second time. If the writers are trying to make a good thing even better, many fans would agree it has worked, with some even calling The Orville the best Trek out there right now.

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 7
Creator and showrunner Seth MacFarlane is seizing every opportunity with the third season of The Orville. This Hulu streaming renaissance has already proved itself to be the show’s most mature, poignant, and character-driven season to date.
One needs to look no further than the title of this episode to see one of its central messages. “From Unknown Graves” is a line from “The Witnesses,” a poem written in the 19th century by Henry Wadworth Longfellow which outlines the crimes committed in America against slaves.
The central story (as there are many threads within this episode) opens on a gray-alien suburban street. There are two children who are excited when they spot their father’s car pulling into the driveway, asking if he finally brought some coveted gift home to them. The father pushes a...

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 6
When season 3 of The Orville started, it was difficult to tell in which direction it may head. It had been several years since the second season ended, it had changed networks, and even got a fresh new title. Now that we are more than half way through the season, Seth MacFarlane and his creative team have shown that those “New Horizons” mean that The Orville is clearly not finished finding itself. Season 2 was a massive shift in terms of tone and dramatic storytelling, and so far, season 3 seems to be pushing that dramatic envelope even more.
The first five episodes of the season have already dealt with heavy topics such as suicide, xenophobia, abortion, and gender identity. Yet MacFarlane always knew the true power of the show resided in the characters. “Twice in a Lifetime...

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 3
“To many humans, a mystery is irresistible. It must be solved.” Wise words from arguably the wisest of Captains in modern television history, Jean-Luc Picard. A quotation that encapsulates not only human behavior, but one of the Roddenberry mottos that often serves as a driving force for these fictional travelers to explore strange new worlds.
The production team of The Orville: New Horizons embraced this motto long ago. No matter the danger, the Orville pushes through the eternal darkness of space looking for answers, and that’s what makes episode three: “Mortality Paradox” one of the more intriguing adventures the crew has had.
Lieutenant Keyali (Jessica Szohr) returns from a week’s long leave where she was apparently visiting her parents. She checks in with Commander Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) as soon as she’s back on the ship,...

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 1
After a nearly three year hiatus, The Orville enters its ‘new horizon’, as it begins a new era streaming on Hulu. Yet, in the first episode of season 3, both the break and the new streaming platform already appear to be very good things for the future of the show. In what seems like a lifetime ago, season 2 of Seth MacFarlane’s star trekking, adventure-comedy found its voice, a voice that certainly differed from the satirical and often silly tone of the premiere season.
That dramatic shift in season 2 created a much stronger show, and with it, came a much more steadfast audience. Within the past three years since the conclusion of season 2, Disney acquired Orville parent company, Fox, and in an equally massive shift, we all experienced a global pandemic. The question on every fan...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Orville: New Horizons premiere “Electric Sheep.”] “She’s definitely coming in strong,” Anne Winters says of her character, a new navigator on The Orville, Ensign Charly Burke. She gets off to somewhat of a rough start with Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) and most of the rest of the crew when the sci-fi series returns for its third season (after a three-year break). But there does seem to be hope that she may change by the end of The Orville: New Horizons premiere. As flashbacks in the premiere reveal, Charly lost her best friend, Amanda, in the Kaylon battle — someone had to manually launch the escape pod — and to say she holds the only Kaylon around her, Isaac (Mark Jackson), responsible, would be an understatement. “It really is a shame that you can’t feel anything because you deserve to feel all the pain in the universe,” she tells him.

Much like the titular ship roaming the galaxy searching for adventure, The Orville found itself hopping from platform to platform in recent years. Despite a lukewarm reception to the first season, Fox had announced that The Orville had been renewed for a third season, as the show had found a more comfortable niche, and a steady audience in season 2.
Almost as if by galactic design, cue two major ‘big bangs’ in the 20th Century Fox television universe: an acquisition by Disney and global pandemic. While production had begun on season 3 over three years ago, the production team had no idea where the show would end up, but the Disney-owned streaming service Hulu warped in to save the now fan-favorite.

Returning cast for the third season includes series creator/Orville captain Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Jessica Szohr, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, and Chad L. Coleman.

Anne Winters, who starred in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, is stepping up behind the scenes after optioning Elissa R. Sloan’s debut novel The Unraveling of Cassidy Holmes.
Winters, who will star in the upcoming third season of Hulu’s The Orville, will produce an adaptation of the YA novel, which was published in September 2020 by Harper Collins.
The book follows Cassidy Holmes aka Sassy Gloss, the fourth member of the most idolized pop group in America who ends her own life. Told in multiple perspectives, including Cassidy’s, the page-turning story is a behind-the-scenes look into the rise and fall of a pop icon, and a penetrating examination of the dark side of celebrity and the industry that profits from it.
Winters said, “I am so excited to be branching out with this passion project. This year has enabled me to create opportunities for myself behind the camera, so...

It has been 17 months (…and counting) since The Orville aired its Season 2 finale, so fans are understandably anxious to know when they can expect more of the space adventure series.
Although the first two seasons aired on Fox, it was announced in July of last year that Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi series would move to Hulu for Season 3 — and that those new episodes would not arrive until “late 2020.”

13 Reasons Why Season 4 arrives on Netflix in one week, and the streamer has dropped a new sneak peak.
The clip involves Winston (Deaken Bluman) trying to get answers from Ani (Grace Saif) following Monty's death.
"Tell me what really happened and I swear to you I'll never mention it again, to anyone," he sais to a clearly shocked Ani.
"Just tell me what really happened."
Unfortunately for Winston, Ani has the best poker face out there, and gives him the following response:
"I don't know."
It's an awkward scene, for sure, and Winston leaves with the following:
"Why lie to me? What good does that do?"
Indeed, there would be no show if these teenagers told the truth.
Through three seasons, we've had a suicide, an almost school shooting, sexual assault, and murder.
It's been an exhausting series, and with us heading into the final season, there has to be some consequences for the characters.
