When Disney 2D animation legend Andreas Deja left the studio in 2013 after three decades — he’s best known for supervising such iconic ’90s villains as Gaston from “Beauty and the Beast,” Jafar from “Aladdin,” and Scar from “The Lion King” — he wanted to direct. Thus began a seven-year passion project to make his first short, “Mushka” (a Russian term of endearment for “sweetheart”), about a young girl who rescues the titular tiger cub in the forest and raises him.
Deja’s goal was to channel the look of the Disney films from the ’60s that he grew up with in Germany, particularly “The Jungle Book” — the first he experienced and his favorite — which made him want to become an animator.
Deja started thinking about returning to his first love — drawing animals — and the friendly dynamic between the innocent girl and the powerful tiger. It turned out to be a fitting...

Disney revealed new information about Chris Pine’s big villain in its upcoming animated film, Wish.
Everybody loves a good Disney villain. Ursula, Jafar, Mother Gothel, Maleficent—the list goes on. These dastardly evil-gooders are a key part of Disney Animation’s long legacy.
Oddly enough, it’s been a long time since one of the studio's films had a real villain in the spotlight. Not even Bruno, from the extremely popular film Encanto (which is hopefully getting a sequel), can be properly considered a bad guy.

Aladdin remains an iconic film from the Disney Renaissance era. The popularity of the movie led to a sequel and a live-action remake. One of the memorable characters in the animated film is Jafar, and a parrot named Iago accompanies him.
Jafar and Iago attempt to rule over Agrabah, and the latter provides comedic relief. The two have distinct and opposing personalities. Viewers almost saw the villains with reversed character traits. However, the filmmakers chose to switch the personalities in a revised script.
Jafar and Iago are classic antagonists from ‘Aladdin’

Aladdin draws inspiration from the famous Middle Eastern collection One Thousand and One Nights. The Disney movie uses one of the tales in the compilation to tell the story of a street urchin.

Robin Williams remains one of the most beloved comedians of all time, even though he passed away in 2014. From his breakout role in TV’s Mork & Mindy to movies like Good Will Hunting, he delighted audiences. To many fans, however, Williams is best known as the voice of the Genie in the Disney animated classic Aladdin. The actor broke barriers with his no-holds-barred performance, helping the film to become a huge success. And he improvised hours of comedic material in the process.

Jafar Panahi’s wife Tahereh Saeedi issued a fresh appeal for her imprisoned husband to be released as his period of captivity entered 200 days, in an Instagram post on Thursday.
Her statement follows the news at the weekend that Panahi was possibly on the verge of being released on bail after his lawyer Saleh Nikbakht successfully challenged his detention in the Supreme Court last October.
“Last week, the news came that Jafar will be released within the week. We were happy again and felt better. Today, a week has passed, and Jafar hasn’t come. Exactly 200 days have passed since Jafar was imprisoned. We are disappointed,” she wrote.
Panahi was arrested in early July amid a crackdown on freedom of expression, after going to a prosecutor’s office in Tehran to enquire the about whereabouts of filmmakers Mohammad Rasoulof and Mostafa Al-Ahmad following their detention a few days previously.
