Violet McGraw, whose surprise horror hit M3gan became a viral sensation, has signed to headline the cast for A Wonderful Way with Dragons, written, directed, and produced by Delfine Paolini.
The film will begin production this summer in Upstate NY. It marks Paolini’s feature film directorial debut.
‘Dragons’ follows a group of six children and a sinister, possibly imaginary, friend, abandoned on an enigmatic island after a pandemic has swept the world. Their struggle to survive becomes paled by individual desires for each other and for power.
Joining McGraw are Miguel Angel Garcia, star of The Long Game; Taylor Geare from the film Inception; Donnie Masihi of the TV series This Is Us; Ian Foreman, star of the TV series Let the Right One In; and Theodore Dalton, a fashion model turned actor most recently seen in a nationwide Ralph Lauren ad campaign.

“Burn Your Maps” is one of those movies that’s glib and facile and threadbare all the way through, then the ending sort of gets to you (you’d have to be made of pretty stern stuff if it didn’t), so you think back over what you’ve seen — and it’s still a crock. The writer-director, Jordan Roberts, seems drawn like a magnet to overly manipulative feel-good genres. This is another of those dramas about a couple who have lost a young child, and it’s ripping them apart, but watching them go through the motions of a healing that won’t take, the audience feels just about as removed from their pain as they are.
I’m not suggesting that this is an invalid subject for a movie, only that it’s not one you want to see treated with on-the-nose therapeutic shallowness. When we first meet...

Many films deal with the aftermath of a family death by becoming about how their characters live with the pain — it changing them into different people. Some distinctly show them living despite it instead. Rather than depict Connor (Marton Csokas) and Alise (Vera Farmiga) as the death of their baby girl just ten months prior consumes them, Jordan Roberts’ Burn Your Maps portrays their desire to move on after their transformations are complete. They’re searching for a future they hope exists but cannot yet see. They’ve dealt with grief already (at least they’re frustrated enough to believe they have), so now it’s time to embrace the life that remains. While their son Wes (Jacob Tremblay) readies for what this entails, we’re still uncertain if they are too.
But don’t think this story is one steeped in heavy drama from start to finish without room to breathe.

Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts star in Dream House, a slightly eerie, intense thriller directed by Jim Sheridan. Craig plays Will Atenton, a successful publisher in Manhattan who decides to leave the fast paced lifestyle to spend more time with his wife Libby (Weisz) and two young daughters, Trish and Dee Dee in suburbia. At first all seems well, he appears to be living the dream of working from home on his novel while spending quality time with his loving family and their new home. The newly moved occupants spend time renovating the quaint house which has many secrets and an horrific past, all it appears is not what it seems, as they continually feel they are being watched. The chemistry between Craig and Weiss is good (which is appropriate as the couple reportedly fell for each other in the making of this movie) and the two girls...

Dream House
Directed by Jim Sheridan
Written by David Loucka
Starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Marton Csokas, Claire Geare, Taylor Geare, Elias Koteas
Release Date: September 30, 2011
Jim Sheridan's Dream House is a distorting and turning journey of mind-bending proportions, taking elements of popular horror fiction and re-energizing them as 21st century psychological thriller fares. Featuring Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, it takes some unexpected detours, complete with some commendable performances.
(A side note: Before I do continue though, let me preface the rest of this review with the fact that I did not see any trailers for Dream House before seeing the film. I've been told that Morgan Creek films blew it by including some significant plot revelations in the trailer, so I went into the film fresh - so if you're interested in seeing this movie, avoid all the trailers!) Title: Dream House Directed By: Jim Sheridan Starring: Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Elias Koteas, Marton Csokas, Taylor Geare, Claire Geare, Rachel Fox Movies like Dream House are simply amazing in the worst ways possible. With the slew of films that go into development to never see the green light, how does a script like this slip through rounds and rounds of coverage and scrutiny? Then, how does an irrational story like this attract such top-notch talent like Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz? Worst of all, who thought it’d be worth it to release Dream House in theaters rather than just attempt to tuck it away on...

The first preview clip from director Jim Sheridan's (Brothers) new psychological thriller, Dream House, was big on mystery — "Who is Peter Ward?" — but lacked any real thrills or chills. That oversight has been remedied in the latest two preview clips from the movie, which stars Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz as Will and Libby Atenton, a loving couple who, along with their two girls (played by Claire and Taylor Geare), relocated from New York City to a small town in New England only to find that their "dream house" was once the sight of a gruesome murder and that they are now the killer's next victims. If you startle easily, you may not want to watch these clips at work, in a library, or in a quiet coffee shop.

Brothers is a well acted look at both the horrors of war as well as the horrors that follow a soldier home. The film would garner two Golden Globe nominations (one for Maguire and the other for U2.s closing credit song). Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) is a Marine about to go to Afghanistan. He.s leaving behind his lovely wife Grace (Natalie Portman) and daughters Isabelle (Bailee Madison) and Maggie (Taylor Grace Geare). Before he ships out his brother Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal) has just been released from jail for bank robbery. Sam drives to pick up his brother after his release. The brotherly reunion is sedate enough but the boy.s father Hank (Sam Shepard) and Grace have thought...

Chicago – Was there really any need to remake “Brothers,” the 2004 Danish drama directed by Susanne Bier? Not only was the film nearly flawless, but its riveting emotions and themes resonated on a universal level that transcended any cultural boundaries. Just because a war film is set in a different country or a different time period doesn’t mean the modern-day American soldier won’t be able to relate to it.
Subtitles are no longer a good enough reason for filmmakers to remake foreign films, since audiences are growing increasingly comfortable with reading while watching. Mainstream viewers’ multitasking eyes trained on the Internet had no problem drinking in “Slumdog Millionaire” or “Inglourious Basterds” (not to mention “Avatar”). But it is entirely to the credit of director Jim Sheridan and his uniformly strong cast that the 2009 American remake of “Brothers” works on its own terms. Bier’s film is far more visceral and gut-wrenching,...

Jim Sheridan treats us to a case study of post-traumatic-stress disorder as seen through the eyes of a young veteran of the Afghanistan conflict. If The Hurt Locker is this generations' Platoon then Brothers must be this generations' Coming Home.
An optimistic domestic drama on the well-known 'Coming Home' syndrome many soldiers face - Brothers bears a heavy load and if the message is flat - the film is flat. Sheridan draws a near-perfect line between the love of a family and the issues that can tear it apart. A ravishing Natalie Portman is Grace, a wife that only movie stars would deserve. Grace's husband Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) is being sent back to the deserts of Afghanistan. Before leaving - his younger brother Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal) is being released from prison. Every family has a problem and for the Cahills it's Tommy. A jobless drunk, Tommy...

Chicago – For film lovers unable to attend international film festivals, “Paris, je t’aime” provided an irresistible glimpse at world cinema. Eighteen celebrated filmmakers were each recruited to make a short subject set in the City of Love, thus allowing audiences to view the same town from different cultural perspectives. Some shorts worked better than others, but the resounding majority of them were utterly captivating.
It’s great to see this cinematic experiment continue with “New York, I Love You,” despite the fact that it isn’t anywhere near as artistically stimulating or dramatically satisfying as its predecessor. There’s only ten filmmakers this time, excluding Randy Balsmeyer, who handles the transitions. While “Paris” included Gus Van Sant, Alfonso Cuaron and the Coen brothers, “New York” offers directors like Shekhar Kapur (“Elizabeth”), Allen Hughes (“The Book of Eli”) and Brett Ratner (“Rush Hour”), whose very name inspires derisive laughter amongst film purists.

2009 was an awesome year for movies. It was a year when "cinema magic" was brought back, via James Cameron's Avatar, the fastest movie ever to reach $1 billion in total box office take. Three of my most anticipated movies have been released already - Brothers, The Lovely Bones and A Single Man. Two of them, A Single Man and Brothers, seem to be getting the kind of attention and raves they deserved while The Lovely Bones is now considered as one of the most divisive in regards to critics' assessment of the said Peter Jackson film. So what's the latest buzz right this minute?

- - - A Single Man: The recent win as Best Actor for Colin Firth at the Venice Film Fest appears to be a good omen for Tom Ford's directorial debut. I have yet to read anything 'drastically' negative about it.

Says Karina Longworth, who is now with INDIEWire:
In his boldest visual choice, Ford manipulates the film's palette to match the evolving emotional tone. George's flashbacks are generally crayon-colored and his present desaturated and neutral,...

Jim Sheridan's movies have always been about the costs of assimilation, from his stunning debut with My Left Foot to the immigration story In America. His latest film, Brothers, is the kind of meaty melodrama that's ideal for his kind of story. It's a tightly focused character study about the toils of war and the emotional scars that come with physical ones, and though it's not a great film in the sense of one that will become a classic for the ages, that has more to do with the fact that it strives to be a smaller human drama instead of trying to be the defining war film of its time. An inordinate and unfair amount of pressure is put on films about the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to somehow be epic, all-encompassing, and representative of our era in a way we didn't think possible. But Brothers...

Sibling rivalry is a common theme in films, but Brothers takes that universal subject and places it in a new context. There's more at play — and at stake — in Jim Sheridan's awards hopeful than just family interaction. Grief, guilt, and identity lie at the torn heart of this sometimes disturbing but always moving film.
At the beginning of Brothers, the family of Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire, Spider-Man 3) is reluctant to see the Marine return to Afghanistan for another tour of duty. His wife, Grace (Natalie Portman, The Other Boleyn Girl), jokingly asks to come with him, and his daughters (Bailee Madison and Taylor Geare) plead with him to stay. He has an uneasy relationship with his brother, Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal, Zodiac), who has just been released from prison in time for Sam to leave. Trouble-making Tommy has always stood in his brother's shadow, and it's never been...

Top movie critics give 'Brothers' movie pretty good reviews. Lionsgate's new intense, drama film, "Brothers" hit theaters today, and most of the top movie critics found it to be at least, pretty good. It got mostly As,one B,and a couple of Cs. The movie stars: Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, Bailee Madison, Taylor Geare, Patrick Flueger, Sam Shepard, Mare Winningham, Clifton Collins Jr., and Josh Berry. Wesley Morris of the Boston Globe gave it a C. He said, "This is a corny tale, told with both generous helpings of deli-sliced cheese and a brief stretch of chilling tumultuousness." Roger Ebert from the Chicago Sun-Times gave it an A- rating. He stated, "This becomes Tobey Maguire's film to dominate, and I've never seen these dark depths in him before." Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune also gave it an A-. He said, "an honorable and beautifully acted...

Sometimes, in very rare instances, basic arithmetic does not apply. Sometimes 1 + 1 + 1 does not, in fact, = 3. Take Brothers, for instance, a drama that does everything it can to prop its success up on the efforts made by its parts. Nearly everyone involved, particularly those in front of the camera, are doing their part. It’s the summation, the glaze over everything that doesn’t seem to be gelling the way it should. It’s film about family. It’s a film called Brothers. However, there is very little in the way of connection between many of the characters. In the end, the entire film suffers for it.
In the film, Tobey Maguire plays Sam, a Marine who is about to ship off to Afghanistan for his fourth tour of duty. He leaves behind his loving wife, Grace, played by Natalie Portman, his two, precious daughters, played by Bailee Madison and Taylor Grace Geare,...

Lionsgate has provided us with a brand new clip from Jim Sheridan's upcoming drama Brothers, a remake of a 2004 Danish film from director Susanne Bier. It tells the story of a young man who comforts his older brother's wife and children after he goes missing in Afghanistan. The film has a major cast, including Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Carey Mulligan and Natalie Portman, to name a few. In this new clip, we see the wife of another soldier (Mulligan) talking to the older brother's wife (Portman) about a dream that she had about the missing soldier. It gives us a good sense of tone for the flick, which is a risky endeavor, considering the lackluster performance of Middle Eastern conflict-related movies over the past few years. Have a look at the clip for yourself below. Brothers begins its limited release on December 4, 2009. We also have the Brothers trailer below, courtesy...

If you are anything like me, your head is still spinning after last week's FlashForward. The biggest question on my mind is "How will they follow up?" The pilot for FlashForward as event-driven goodness with great acting and a compelling mystery, but it still felt like it should end in the next hour, tops. This week FlashForward must pick up where it left off, and move forward without moving 'too' forward. Can the mysteries of the mosaic and the event sustain a series? Something tells me we are in very good friends. Maybe it is these five clips…
"FlashForward" stars Joseph Fiennes as Mark Benford, John Cho as Demetri Noh, Jack Davenport as Lloyd Simcoe, Zachary Knighton as Bryce Varley, Peyton List as Nicole Kirby, Dominic Monaghan as Simon, Brían F. O'Byrne as Aaron Stark, Courtney B. Vance as Stanford Wedeck, Sonya Walger as Olivia Benford and Christine Woods as Janis Hawk.
