Didn't you always know that the Bellweather Unit was special?
How special wasn't revealed until really late on Motherland: Fort Salem Season 3 Episode 10.
Developments shook out predictably in this final battle with the Camarilla.
After all, the witches have been using their powers for centuries. The Camarilla were employing stolen powers and jury-rigged equipment. Experience was gonna prevail.
If only The Mother hadn't allowed the witches to dig themselves such a deep hole. If she's all-seeing, why didn't she warn them earlier that the Camarilla were conspiring against them?
I guess they had to learn the hard way that humans fear those that are different. You would have thought that history had taught them that already.
The political and military leaders eased up on the Camarilla far too soon. They only had one of the leadership triumvirate in custody (Silver), and they lost him.

When Freeform officials decided to cut short this story of the witches of Fort Salem, they should have given Eliot Laurence 12 episodes for its final season instead of the usual 10.
That way, Motherland: Fort Salem Season 3 Episode 9 wouldn't have had to be so jam-packed with storylines.
As a result, storylines on which viewers had been waiting, including the trial of the Bellweather Unit and Raelle and Scylla's wedding ceremony, flat out got short shrift as Laurence and company had to scramble to set up the series finale.
Which is a shame. There were enough developments for a couple of episodes, but significant action ended up having to take place offstage to speed along events. Only so much can be crammed into 42 minutes.
Abigail's proposal that the Bellweather Unit turn themselves in was wise, as then there was no longer any reason for the Camarilla troops to continue to occupy The Cession.

Updated with Saturday schedule: After a two-year in-person hiatus due to Covid, San Diego Comic-Con is raging back with a big footprint by streaming, TV and, well, as far as big screen feature films, let’s just say they’re creeping back.
Marvel will make some big waves with its upcoming new movies (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and Disney+ series (She-Hulk), but it will keep some powder dry for D23 in early September. Dwayne Johnson will be booming with New Line/DC’s Black Adam, along with Shazam: Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi. However, while Sony will be skipping as the Spider-Verse animated sequel is set for next year. Paramount will be giving fans an early look at Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. And there’s Kevin Smith with Clerks III.
Sdcc runs from Wednesday, July 20-Sunday, July...

Eliot Laurence can't help but wonder what might have been.
With Motherland: Fort Salem barely into its third and final season on Freeform, Laurence feels like he's just scratching the surface.
After all, Motherland had its start as a five-book series by Laurence. When publishers didn't bite, he went in a different direction with his concept.
"We've kind of poached some of those ideas and used them in the first two seasons," Laurence explained in a recent virtual media roundtable. "But there's a lot more that I figured out about the world, and it could keep going, for sure."
In fact, Laurence is negotiating to produce more stories from Motherland in a graphic-novel format. Are we going to get such a book set in the Motherland world?
"The provocative questions keep emerging from it," he said. "There's a lot more stories to tell. I'd like to kind of go through...

The witches of Motherland: Fort Salem have seen better days.
Freeform’s supernatural drama returned for its final season on Tuesday with its motley crew of magical fugitives still on the run from Vice President Silver, Alban Hearst and a host of other nefarious characters. When we reunited with the runaways, they were posing as midwest paper distributors, some more convincingly than others. Raelle and Scylla, for example, were content to lay low and daydream of a simple life somewhere, while Tally and Nicte insisted on partaking in rooftop training sessions, which ultimately exposed the group and forced everyone to relocate.

In the world of Freeform’s Motherland: Fort Salem, witches are the country’s military might and men, well, we kind of suck. But sadly, the enchanted badasses’ tour of duty is coming to end with Season 3, which kicks off tonight with our main witches on the run, a certain General transforming into something even cooler and the witch-hunting Camarilla cabal enacting their master plan. We spoke with creator and showrunner Eliot Laurence (who also created TNT’s tremendous Claws) about forging the final season and what he has brewing for Motherland’s possible future. Ok, so at least you get to end the show on your terms, right? Eliot Laurence: [Laughs] Oh yes. It’s very rare that you get the opportunity. And you know, I had an end in mind, so we [moved it up] and that actually kind of set the story on fire a little bit, in terms of not...

The end of Claws is here.
The highly-anticipated fourth and final season of TNT's unapologetically bold series will premiere on Sunday, December 26 at 9:00pm Et/Pt, it was announced today at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Summer Press Tour.
News of the final season premiere date comes over two years since Claws Season 3 wrapped.
The third season of "Claws" ranked as a top 10 cable drama in 2019.
The longer-than-usual wait between seasons is due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which brought production to a grinding halt last year.
TNT has announced an early sneak of the final season's first episode will air on December 17th during TBS' weekly talk show series, Friday Night Vibes, hosted by Tiffany Haddish with co-host Deon Cole.
As longtime fans of Claws, Haddish and Cole will catch up with the cast as they take a trip down memory lane sharing their favorite moments from the first three seasons.

Freeform has renewed supernatural drama series Motherland: Fort Salem for a third and final season.
Created and written by Eliot Laurence, Motherland: Fort Salem stars Taylor Hickson, Jessica Sutton, Ashley Nicole Williams, Amalia Holm, Demetria McKinney, and Lyne Renée. The drama is set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution nearly 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the U.S. government to fight for their country. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped, with the more dominant women on the front lines fighting looming terrorist threats that are familiar to our world — but with supernatural tactics and weapons.
News of the series’ third and final season comes just a day before its Season 2 finale, which will air at 10 p.m. Tuesday on Freeform. A battle looms for Fort Salem against witch-hunting group the Camarilla.

Motherland: Fort Salem season 1 introduced viewers to an expansive world where witches make up the American military, and followed new recruits Tally (Jessica Sutton), Abigail (Ashley Nicole Williams), and Raelle (Taylor Hickson) as they trained to fight against witchy terrorist cell, The Spree. The witch cadets experienced love, loss, and betrayal while learning to harness their power, and found themselves facing enemies more harrowing than they ever could have imagined.
Everything changed in the explosive season 1 finale. The Spree attacked a stadium during a soccer game to warn the world of witches of impending threat, by hypnotizing the entire crowd to chant “Our ancient enemy has returned,” temporarily ceasing hostilities to get the message out. Claws may be rearing its final chapter, but the TNT dramedy will go out with a bang, TBS/TNT/truTV boss Brett Weitz revealed on Wednesday.
“The Claws ending is fulfilling as an ending of a series as you could want. It’s exactly what Desna and her band would want you to see – a little bit of crazy, a lot of fun and the exhilarating ending to a great series run,” he said during a press call ahead of WarnerMedia’s upfront presentation.
The series, which debuted in 2017, follows Niecy Nash’s Desna Simms, who, alongside her crew of manicurists from the Nail Artisans of Manatee County salon, rises to power in the crime world to claim her share of cash and respect. Claws also stars Carrie Preston, Judy Reyes, Karrueche Tran, Jenn Lyon, Kevin Rankin, Jason Antoon, Harold Perrineau and Dean Norris.

Exclusive: TNT dramedy Claws has paused filming its fourth and final season for the next 14 days due to a team member testing positive for Covid-19. According to sources, the asymptomatic diagnosis was confirmed as a result of required and ongoing testing for all employees on productions of Warner Bros. TV, the studio behind Claws. The decision on a two-week shutdown was made out of abundance of caution.
Production on Season 4 of Claws was well underway in New Orleans when all Hollywood production was halted in March amid the growing coronavirus pandemic. Filming recently resumed and is slated to wrap in December.
Since its launch in 2017, Claws has won critical praise and a loyal fan base. It follows Niecy Nash’s Desna Simms, who, alongside her crew of manicurists from the Nail Artisans of Manatee County salon, rises to power in the crime world to claim her share of cash and respect.

The following contains spoilers for the Motherland: Fort Salem season 1 finale.
We’ve seen witches as students in the Harry Potter universe, as warriors on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and as messy friends on Charmed. But rarely, if ever, have we seen them as government-sanctioned soldiers in the military fighting on behalf of their country and its citizens. Motherland: Fort Salem gives us a unique take on witches, war, and womanhood. Witches aren’t folk tales whispered about around campfires, they are a living, breathing people with a unique culture. And, in the world of Fort Salem, magic is not just a tool used to empower a small, hidden population of witches; it is a weapon used by militaries around the world.
We spoke with creator and showrunner Eliot Laurence (who also created Claws) about the first season, its characters, and what we can look forward to in Motherland: Fort Salem’s confirmed second season.

We’re already all in for Freeform‘s Motherland: Fort Salem, a TV show set in an alternate world in which witches have been fighting for the United States for 300 years. The network has ordered the speculative fiction show to series.
The first (and hopefully not only) season of Motherland: Fort Salem will be 10 episodes, with Eliot Laurence (Claws) acting as creator and showrunner. In this world, witches ended their notorious persecution by striking a deal with the U.S. government: if the persecutions stop, witches will serve as a U.S. military force. Here’s hoping the show deals with that particular theme critically. The series will be executive produced by Laurence, Kevin Messick, Will Ferrell, and Adam McKay.

Some say a genre story is only as good as its villains. If that’s the case then Freeform’s military witch drama Motherland: Fort Salem might be onto something.
The baddies in Motherland are a witchy terrorist organization known as the Spree. The Spree operate underground and use their magical powers to commit acts of mass violence in service of their pro-witch ideology. Like any fictional terrorist cell worth its salt, however, the Spree might actually have a point or two. Something is certainly off in a world where young witches are forced to enlist in the military to fight the U.S.’s wars.
“The stuff they’re saying isn’t that far from the truth,” Motherland: Fort Salem creator Eliot Laurence told Den of Geek prior to the show’s premiere. “The things they do, while horrible, are kind of beautiful too. They’re kind of like...

Was the episode's message supposed to be a horny witch is a powerful witch?
Whatever. Beltane certainly appeared to be a pleasant diversion from the day-to-day routine on Motherland: Fort Salem Season 1 Episode 3.
Unfortunately, this episode of Motherland: Fort Salem resulted in more questions than answers.
That's to be expected. Eliot Laurence created a dense mythology over a decade, and he can't just throw it all out there at once.
So viewers are only going to a little bit of new information each installment over this 10-episode first season.
This episode, titled "A Biddy's Life," finally gave viewers some answers about biddies, the half-dozen older women who constantly accompany General Alder.
The biddies seemed to be Alder's personal security force. It appeared to be an honorary position to which older witches, who somehow survived, retired.
But no. It turned out that they are so much more than that.

What a gender-bender head-trip this series is!
Women are in charge, and Motherland: Fort Salem Season 1 Episode 1 showed how they got there.
Eliot Laurence's Claws, a summer favorite on TNT, reveals how Desna Simms and her female crew are often a step ahead of the males in their lives.
He goes much further in this new series. The women, all of whom are witches, comprise the military.
Laurence came up with the ingenious concept of having Sarah Alder, about to be hanged during the Salem Witch Trials, propose that witches would provide the defense for what was then the American Colonies.
On the series, it's more than 300 years later, and General Sarah Alder remains a military leader and cultural icon.
What's her secret for longevity, and does it have anything to do with the crones always surrounding her? I'm betting so.
As Abigail learned, don't bother General Alder with your petty shit.

Witches, despite their increasingly glamorous status in pop culture, have long been symbolic of people’s preconceived notions and fear of othered people, particularly women who deign to seize their own power (literal or otherwise). Women suspected of witchcraft and women who practice witchcraft have met terrible ends as they fought for the right to be taken seriously on their own terms, and for their lives. Witches have a fascinating, terrible history in this country that is rooted in having to navigate and outlast a system that would love nothing more than to stamp them out for good.
Anyway, “Motherland: Fort Salem” is nowhere near as nuanced or interesting as all that. Instead, the self-righteous new Freeform drama makes the baffling decision to tell an alternate history in which witches negotiate an ending to their persecution by the government by agreeing to form an elite and ruthlessly effective branch of the U.

Witch hunts have become an enduring concept in our cultural lexicon.
Once a term used to describe a literal search for and subsequent execution of suspected witches, the words have now evolved into a meaningless euphemism for political leaders (usually men) who feel persecuted by simple oversight or observation. “Witch hunt” has lost some of its rhetorical power. That’s why Freeform’s modern military witch drama Motherland: Fort Salem is coming along at a useful moment in our history. You see, these witches hunt back.
Motherland is set in an alternate version of the United States where the witches of colonial-era Salem cut a deal with the U.S. government to avoid that whole witch hunt ordeal by agreeing to join the burgeoning country’s armed forces. That deal, known as The Salem Accord, persists to the present day where three young witches, Raelle Collar (Taylor Hickson), Abigail Bellweather (Ashley Nicole Williams...

When Motherland: Fort Salem creator Eliot Laurence pitched his witches-in-the U.S.-military drama to Freeform, he presented the network with a helpful supplemental tool alongside it: a glossary.
Such is the scale and depth of detail for Laurence’s vision. Many TV shows use the question of “what if?” as a starting point. Very few TV shows, however, ride “what if?” questions to greater lengths than Motherland. This is a show that asks: what if the witches of Salem were actual magic-users? Then it asks what if they cut a deal with the U.S. government to avoid persecution by promising to fight their wars? And what if that arrangement persisted all the way to the present day and 18-year-old witches across the country entered into the Fort Salem military base to learn how to fight all of Uncle Sam’s threats, both foreign and domestic?

Jenny Gago (Southland) is set for a recurring role on Fox series Deputy, starring Stephen Dorff, from Entertainment One and Fox Entertainment. Written by Will Beall and directed by David Ayer, Deputy is a cop drama that blends the spirit of a classic Western with a modern attitude and gritty authenticity. When the Los Angeles County Sheriff dies, an arcane rule forged back in the Wild West thrusts the most unlikely man into the job: a fifth-generation lawman (Dorff) who’s more comfortable taking down bad guys than navigating a sea of politics. Gago will play the role of Anjelica Reyes, a smart, wise, loving woman who is the mother to Paula (Yara Martinez). Gago is known for her film roles in Mi Familia, Coach Carter, Blood In Blood Out and Nurse Betty. Her TV credits include TNT’s Southland and ABC comedy Freddie. She is co-managed by Karen Forman and Bill Rogin.

Freeform’s new drama series Motherland: Fort Salem is set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution more than 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the government to fight for their country. At TCA on Friday, creator by Eliot Laurence (Claws) said most of the show pays homage to witch history and removes some of the stigma around witches.
Motherland: Fort Salem follows three young women from basic training in combat magic into early deployment. Traditional roles of gender and power are flipped, with the more dominant women on the front lines fighting looming terrorist threats that are familiar to our world with supernatural tactics and weapons.
Laurence said one of the biggest themes they talked about in the writers room was what female sexuality looks like away from the patriarchy because it’s a matriarchal society in the show.

Freeform's witchy new drama, Motherland: Fort Salem, will debut on the network March 18.
The series, which was ordered last March, is a big swing for the cabler, and the brand new trailer teases as much.
