Barcelona-based Nanouk Films and Funicular Films and Spanish pubcaster Tve are partnering to produce “This is Not Sweden,” a dark comedy half hour which marks the first Spanish show to be presented at the Göteborg’s Festival’s TV Drama Vision.
Set in the idyllic Vallvidrera, a suburb in the foothills of the Collserola mountains surrounding Barcelona, the eight-part series explores parenting and other family-related issues by focusing on a young couple – Mariana and Samuel – who has just moved there and wants to raise their children in contact with nature.
“This is Not Sweden” is created by actor-director Aina Clotet, a Malaga Fest best actress winner for “Someone’s Daughter” and by producer Sergi Cameron. Clotet will direct along with Coll, who won a best new director Goya for “Three Days with the Family.”

Les Arcs Film Festival, the European film fest programmed by Tribeca’s artistic director Frederic Boyer and set in the French Alps, has unveiled the lineup of its Coproduction Village which will be back as a live event after a virtual 2020 edition. The 13th edition of the industry sidebar will showcase 18 projects in development from 11 countries, including 8 projects directed by female directors.
Projects by female directors represented 34% of projects submitted and 44% of the final selection. There are seven feature debuts, and five projects by more experienced filmmakers. The coproduction Village aims at helping filmmakers find co-producers, sales agents, distributors and other financial partners.

Madrid — A co-producer on Dutch comedy-thriller “El azul bajo sus pies” (“Beyond the Blue Bridge”), Spain’s Tourmalet Films is preparing its biggest feature yet, “Siete Picos,” as it introduces “Killing Crabs” at Locarno’s Match Me! co-production forum.
Launched in 2011, the Madrid and Tenerife-based independent film house Tourmalet broke through two years later co-producing of Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s noteworthy feature debut “Stockholm.”
Managed by Mayi Gutiérrez Cobo, Omar Razzak, Manuel Arango and Daniel Remón, Tourmalet has produced eight feature films and nine shorts, which have played in festivals such as Montreal, Málaga, Cartagena de Indias and Visions du Reel.
The company’s production model is evolving towards increasingly larger budget titles. It started producing short-films, then documentaries -the first, Razzak’s 2013 debut “Paradiso,” about the last porn cinema in Madrid, was an hybrid docu-fiction; followed by Samuel Alarcón’s “Oscuro y lucientes,” a docu feature about research into Francisco de Goya’s skull.

World premiering at Spain’s Malaga Festival, then selected for Lille’s Series Mania, Europe’s biggest TV festival, the miniseries is quite a different proposition to Movistar + other early shows. A Wolf At The Door, licensed internationally by Mundial, has taken the Knight Grand Jury Prize at the 31st Miami International Film Festival (16).
In the documentary competition there was a tie for the Knight Grand Jury Prize between Finding Vivian Maier and The Overnighters.
Fading Gigolo and The Mountain prevailed in the Lexus Audience Awards for feature narrative and dovumentary.
“We are humbled by the community’s overwhelming response to this year’s film festival,” said Mdc president Dr Eduardo J. Padrón. “It serves to strengthen the college’s commitment to providing quality cultural arts programming for all to enjoy.”
“We hoped that this year’s Festival would provide memories to treasure and it has absolutely delivered,” said Miff executive director Jaie Laplante. “From the magic of Hollywood glamor on opening night to the many superb films and engaging filmmakers that we enjoyed in the nine days that followed, Miff 2014 has inspired and enraptured.”

Madrid -- The 5th Madrid de Cine Spanish Film Screenings will kick off Sunday, showcasing 33 films from Spain to 117 international buyers from 30 countries.
Oskar Santos' supernatural drama set in a hospital "For the Good Others" and Mar Coll's profile of a Catalan family at a life cycle event "Three Days With the Family" are two of the films with good buzz going into the event, which runs June 20-22.
"Others," produced by Alejandro Amenabar, Fernando Bovaira's Mod Prods. and Telecinco Cinema, stars Eduardo Noriega and Belen Rueda -- acting godmother of this year's edition.

Madrid -- Daniel Monzon's prison drama "Cell 211" walked away the grand winner at the 24th Goya Awards ceremony with eight statues, including the top categories, Sunday night after a close head-to-head battle with Alejandro Amenabar's epic film "Agora."
