Bing Tell
- Additional Crew
- Production Manager
- Producer
Bing's blossoming film career began in the Philippines in 1982, when,
at the tender age of 3, her mother forced her to appear onscreen at a
live broadcast of a Catholic mass. She vowed to never be in front of
the camera again.
After studying film production at Loyola Marymount University, Bing continued a career behind the scenes by creating subtitles for such blockbuster films as The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. As much as she enjoyed correcting spelling and grammar errors, she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of being a movie producer.
Bing was lucky to find three colleagues who shared her genuine passion for filmmaking and its potential to effect social change, which led to the creation of The Narra Group, LLC. The Narra Group is dedicated to creating films that represent the complex world we live in, and telling stories that provoke thought, ignite conversation, and challenge the way audiences see the world.
In 2005, Bing produced a documentary called Mangosteen about the HIV/AIDS crisis in Malaysia, which was considered the "best of the best" at the Visual Communications Film Fest. Since then, Bing has gone on to produce a documentary about an 80-year-old classical musician who's getting his music recorded for the first time, as well as a documentary on how domestic violence affects the family. Bing continues to produce PSAs and educational videos that focus on multicultural awareness, at-risk youth, the LGBT community and HIV/AIDS awareness.
Bing also has years of experience on the non-documentary front. She's worked as a casting director, a production coordinator, a production manager and a line producer on numerous short and feature films, as well as a few TV shows.
To balance it all out and keep her feet firmly planted on the ground, Bing produces and co-hosts Southern California's longest-running weekly LGBT radio newsmagazine, IMRU, on KPFK 90.7 FM. There, she's had the chance to interview political activists, high-profile celebrities, filmmakers and authors.
Her personal interests include doing the dishes, balancing the checkbook and watching people work out.
