Whether it’s due to Nicholas Cage’s acclaimed performance or not, the actor’s mediocre thriller The Frozen Ground has suddenly made its way to Netflix’s global top more than ten years after its theatrical release.
Currently holding the number 7 position to-date, the movie has been going strong after it initially entered the chart with the same place last week, according to FlixPatrol.
Packed with this-day big Hollywood stars like Vanessa Hudgens, John Cusack and, ironically, 50 Cent, The Frozen Ground follows Alaska Trooper Jack Halcombe, portrayed by Cage, embarking on a hunt for local serial killer Robert Hansen who is believed to have been torturing and sexually assaulting young girls for 13 years.
To get more evidence for Hansen’s arrest, Halcombe dives deep into the whole story and finds out that one victim, Cindy Paulsen, somehow managed to survive, though since then she’s turned into an...

The Super Troopers gang is back on the road – well, actually it’s a distillery, with the original lawmen getting back together to promote WhistlePig’s maple syrup in a throwback to one of the great scenes in the 2001 Broken Lizard comedy.
In the ad, we see Super Trooper star Erik Stolhanske (Trooper “Rabbit”) slugging a bottle of WhistlePig barrel-aged maple syrup, to which Steve Lemme (Trooper “Mac”) coaching him to relax and open his jaw, further prompting Jay Chandrasekhar (Lieutenant “Thorny”) to tell him, “You’re doing it wrong.” Rabbit’s reply? “What are you talking about? Chugging maple syrup’s kind of our thing!”
But for such maple syrup, chugging is forbidden from the Super Troopers boys and pretty much anyone else who tries to set their lips on the bottle. After all, it is Vermont’s finest…Cue Paul Soter (Trooper Foster) and Kevin Heffernan (Trooper Farva) at the bar,...

At first glance, you might think that Helldivers 2 is a game that doesn’t take itself seriously. And, it doesn’t for the most part, especially when you hear fellow Helldivers live out their superhero fantasies on different planets as they blast their way through a PvE environment designed for chaos.
In the midst of all this, there’s an upcoming update that not only thrives at including a very special part of the community but also sparks a discussion around what these outfits are inspired by. Apparently, these are Helldivers with mechanical limbs, and players will be able to equip their armor sets soon enough.
The community welcomes amputated veterans on Helldivers 2’s playground The fight for liberty shouldn’t stop at any cost.

"True Detective: Night Country" is a murder mystery. But the fourth season of the crime anthology series tells a deeper story, with new showrunner Issa López weaving a dense narrative full of symbolism and metaphor. So full of cryptic imagery is this season, that fans of the series will no doubt struggle to keep up with just what it all means, or whether it means anything at all.
Reintroducing elements from season 1 has been a big part of "Night Country," which, early in its run, confirmed it was a direct sequel to the original season. That means we've seen plenty of the ominous spiral symbol, which originated in the series pilot and represented the sinister Carcosa or Yellow King cult. In "Night Country," however, the spiral has played an even bigger role, with López seemingly set to reveal its origins by the end of her season.

Well, we're five episodes into "True Detective: Night Country" and the mystery just keeps getting more... mysterious. What caused a group of research scientists to perish in apparent anguish on the Alaskan tundra? How is that linked to the murder of Annie Kowtok, an Indigenous woman whose body was found dumped in the small town of Ennis some years before the discovery of the scientist's bodies? And how does the spiral from season 1 fit into all of this?
At this point, there's all sorts of speculation among fans, including talk of pollution causing the inhabitants of Ennis, Alaska to lose their minds, and even a potential Lovecraftian creature that would finally fulfill the cosmic horror promises of season 1. Considering new showrunner Issa López's penchant for weaving the paranormal with gritty realism, as evidenced in her 2017 feature "Tigers Are Not Afraid," it wouldn't be completely out of the...

Anyone paying any attention to the "True Detective: Night Country" discourse will surely have noticed a rift forming among viewers. Specifically, there are those who can't stop comparing the new episodes to the original 2014 season, and those who say "Night Country" should be viewed as its own thing, entirely divorced from what came before. However you feel about it, new showrunner Issa López, who replaces show creator Nic Pizzolatto, has not only been open about how influenced she was by Pizzolatto's inaugural season, but has peppered "Night Country" with homages, callbacks, and outright continuations of themes and specific narrative threads from the 2014 episodes — to the extent that "Night Country" is essentially a stealth sequel to season 1.
Thus far, the biggest link to the initial season has been the inclusion of the spiral symbol, which cropped up throughout the "Night Country" trailer. This motif appeared throughout season 1 and represented the...

Finn Bennett and Jodie Foster in ‘True Detective: Night Country’ episode 2 (Photo by Michele K. Short/HBO)
HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, season four of the award-winning anthology, began with the mind-blowing discovery that an entire research team just up and vanished, leaving food on counters and a DVD playing back at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station in Ennis, Alaska. Episode one introduced Academy Award-winner Jodie Foster as Ennis Police Chief Liz Danvers and Kali Reis as Alaska Trooper Evangeline Navarro, who will be – reluctantly – teaming up to figure out what happened to the researchers, a disappearance that Navarro believes is connected to the cold case of a local activist and midwife who was brutally murdered six years ago.
Episode two kicks off with Liz and Officer Peter Prior (Finn Bennett) examining the researchers’ frozen bodies, which were discovered outside of town at the end of the season premiere.

[This story contains spoilers from Fargo’s season five finale, “Bisquik.”]
For Fargo season five star Juno Temple, nothing was going to get in the way of Dorothy “Dot” Lyon’s mostly happy ending.
When the dust settled on Noah Hawley’s tremendous fifth season of Fargo, Dot finally overcame her wickedly abusive ex-husband Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm), his hired gun who happened to be a 500-year-old sin-eater named Ole Munch (Sam Spruell) and her mistrustful mother-in-law, Lorraine Lyon (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Dot thought her quarrel with Munch was settled when he saved her and freed her at Roy’s ranch so she could put a stop to the latter’s vicious cycle of abuse once and for all, but a year after Roy ended up in handcuffs, Dot and her daughter Scotty (Sienna King) arrived home to see Munch sitting in their living room with their respective, unsuspecting husband and father, Wayne (David Rysdahl...

A 10-episode season is far too short a time to spend with Dot, Wayne, Scotty, Lorraine, Witt, Roy, Indira, and, yes, even Gator. Unfortunately, that’s all we get with FX’s Fargo season five as episode 10, “Bisquik,” brings the second-best season of the series to a close.
The season finale opens with the now-blind Gator (Joe Keery) deserted by his dad and left to make it back to the ranch on his own. He whines as he repeatedly falls and then eventually makes it into the secret tunnel almost by accident.
Gator emerges from the tunnel in a field and is immediately spotted by the FBI. He throws up his hands, no longer the arrogant vape-addict we’ve come to know and loathe.
Meanwhile, “patriots” line the ranch’s fence on Roy Tillman’s orders, fully prepared to take on the FBI. North Dakota Deputy Witt Farr (Lamorne Morris...

Six police officers who shot and killed “Stop Cop City” protester Manuel Esteban Paez Terán will not face criminal charges, Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney George R. Christian ruled on Friday.
“The use of lethal (deadly) force by the Georgia State Patrol was objectively reasonable under
the circumstances of this case,” Christian, who was appointed to review the case after DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston recused herself, wrote. “No criminal charges will be brought against the Georgia State Patrol Troopers involved in the shooting of Manual Paez Teran.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (Sled) confirmed Tuesday that they are now treating the 2015 death of South Carolina teen Stephen Smith as a homicide following new information that arose during their investigation of the murders of Margaret and Paul Murdaugh.
Smith was found dead on a Hampton County road in July 2015, his death initially ruled the result of blunt force trauma from a hit-and-run accident. However, subsequent reporting and documentaries into now-former South Carolina lawyer and legal dynasty scion Alex Murdaugh reexamined what was long-rumored about Smith’s death:...

Through two movies, writer/director Rian Johnson has demonstrated a remarkable ability to craft mysteries that can attract an A-list ensemble for the ages. Both "Knives Out" and its sequel "Glass Onion," which was recently released by Netflix, are led by Daniel Craig as ace detective Benoit Blanc, but he is joined by a slew of great supporting stars. This time around, that list included Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, and Kate Hudson, among many others.
Johnson has also, in both films, managed to include a staple from his filmography in the form of actor Noah Segan, who has been working with the filmmaker since as far back as "Brick." Segan played the lovable Trooper Wagner in the first film, and Johnson found a way to bring Segan back this time around, even though he was telling a completely different story. As anyone who has seen the film can attest,...

In a film featuring a (in some cases literal) murderer’s row of movie-star performances, the “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” character that has received the most ink since its Netflix premiere on December 23 is Derol, the Corona-toting slacker who briefly appears in only a handful of scenes — but steals every one of them. Played by Noah Segan, who has appeared in every one of Rian Johnson’s films to date, Derol has taken on a life of his own, becoming a favorite even on the periphery of the murder-mystery action, and perhaps because of that, a meme.

The name’s Trooper. Stormtrooper. Daniel Craig may be best known as James Bond, but his cameo as a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still one discussed today.
Daniel Craig, who is a major Star Wars fan, recently gave more details on how his cameo as Stormtrooper Fn-1824–jokingly referred to as Stormtrooper Fn-007 on set–in The Force Awakens came about. While doing fittings, Craig approached assistant director Ben Dixon and meekly said, “Can I get a part in this?” So Dixon asked the proper authorities and, as Craig put it, “The next day I’m in a fucking suit! They do not fit!”
Daniel Craig elaborated on the troubles of the stormtrooper outfit, saying, “I had to wear this suit all day and I couldn’t feel my hands at the end of the day and I thought, God, these poor people have to wear them in the desert.

“Bandit” may be, as it proudly declares up front, based on a true story. But it’s hard to believe the titular antihero was quite as charming as the guy playing him.
Josh Duhamel is Robert Whiteman — or, technically, Gilbert Galvan Jr., as he’s known before he escapes a Michigan jail and flees to Ontario in 1985. He becomes Whiteman when he buys a homeless man’s ID, so he can get a job selling ice cream. But when he’s fired, he needs a new gig fast. Unfortunately, even in Canada it’s tough to find work as a wanted convict.
So Robert starts looking around for ways to make some easy money. Actually, make that fast money. Canadian banks, he learns while robbing them, have very little security, and he’s in and out in minutes. But it’s definitely work, what with the careful planning, the costumes and prosthetics,...

The use of The Clash’s 1982 hit single, “Should I Stay or Should I Go,” in “Stranger Things” is a great example of why there’s a new Emmy category this season honoring the creativity of the music supervisor. The Duffer Brothers inserted the song into their ’80s sci-fi script to emotionally connect the Indiana family that’s separated by the Upside Down dimension. However, if Emmy-nominated music supervisor Nora Felder hadn’t convinced The Clash of its importance, the Duffers would’ve had to find a replacement.
Fortunately, the “Stranger Things” showrunners (Matt and Ross Duffer) were never aware there was even a problem obtaining the licensing rights. “It was my job to protect them,” said Felder Thursday night during a Q&A panel discussion. “They were worried about trivializing the song and needed to see how it was going to be used in scenes, and for the first...

The new Music Supervisor category this Emmy season finally honors the supervisor’s creative contribution to narrative storytelling and music aesthetic: Licensing songs that are appropriately iconic and emotionally resonant, while touting some of the hottest new talent.
Here are the nominees: Thomas Golubic (“Better Call Saul” — “Sunk Costs”), Susan Jacobs (“Big Little Lies” — “You Get What You Need”), Manish Raval, Jonathan Leahy, Tom Wolfe (“Girls”— “Goodbye Tour”), Zach Cowie, Kerri Drootin (“Master of None” — “Amarsi Un Po”), and Nora Felder (“Stranger Things” — “Chapter Two: The Weirdo on Maple Street”).
The results included three female supervisors (Jacobs, Drootin, and Felder) and demonstrated the brand power of HBO (“Big Little Lies,” “Girls”) and Netflix (“Master of None,” “Stranger Things”). But in the end, it came down to a battle of dueling playlists.

Last week we brought you up-to-speed on Spiders 3D, a new giant spider flick from the director of The Gate. I contacted the film’s star, Christa Campbell, for a few quick words about her role as a giant spider fighter.
The lovely Miss Campbell, who can currently be seen very naked in three voluptuous dimensions in Drive Angry 3D and on DVD next month as a seductive were-hyena prowling for Costas Mandylor in Hyenas, had this to say about her role in the eight-legged, three-dimensional, creepy crawler creature feature:
"I play Rachel, a mom who is going through a divorce with her husband, Jason, when the world is taken over by spiders. We have to fight, kill, and save the world. This brings our family back together."
Husband Jason is portrayed by Patrick Muldoon. When jokingly asked if she got any tips on fighting giant bugs from the ex-Starship Trooper,...

Every arachnophobe's worst nightmare is headed to the big screen with Spiders 3D. As New York City is poised to fall into their enormous three-dimensional web, only a milk maiden, a Power Ranger, and a Starship Trooper can save the Big Apple from experiencing an eight-legged apocalypse.
Shockingly, "Eight-Legged Apocalypse" has not yet been used as the title of a Syfy original movie.
Though Spiders 3D sounds like the making of a Syfy flick - both the production company Nu Image and the film's director have a slew of Syfy movies to their credit, I have been assured that a theatrical release is the plan. When I first reported on this film back in May of last year, it was simply Spider 3D (story here) and little was known. Looks like the spiders have since multiplied, production has wrapped, and a new plot synopsis has emerged:
