Apple TV+ has set its first German-language series, “Where’s Wanda?”
“Where’s Wanda?” tells the story of a couple desperate to find their missing daughter. After months of waiting for the police to track her down, Dedo and Carlotta Klatt finally take matters into their own hands. With the help of their tech-savvy son Ole, the family bug their local neighbourhood – which is when they begin to realize that their neighbors are hiding more than they realized.

Fatih Akin has teamed up with Berlin-based UFA Fiction on his miniseries about German star Marlene Dietrich, starring Diane Kruger.
Based on the biography “My Mother Marlene,” by Dietrich’s daughter, Maria Riva, the five-part series, tentatively titled “Marlene,” is produced by UFA Fiction and Akin’s Bombero International in Hamburg.
Currently in production, the miniseries chronicles Dietrich’s life as an artist, lover, German emigrant and mother as well as a woman who created her own rules and lived by them, whatever the cost.
“‘Marlene’ will be not only the first series I have written and directed but also the greatest challenge in my film career,” said Akin, the series’ creator.
“It is the continuation of my successful collaboration with Diane Kruger. Nobody is better cast than her. Marlene was not only a cinematic icon, but a woman in exile, German immigrant in America, resistance fighter and so much more.

Berlin-based sales agency Picture Tree Intl. has added to its European Film Market slate “Love Thing,” starring top German actor Elyas M’Barek, whose credits include “The Collini Case.” Also on the slate is “Soul of a Beast,” which debuts its trailer below.
Despite the virtual nature of the EFM, the company has taken additional office space at the Marriott Hotel in Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz.
“Love Thing,” which also stars Lucie Heinze, Peri Baumeister and Alexandra Maria Lara, is directed and written by Anika Decker, whose last feature “High Society” sold widely. Decker scripted box office successes like “Rabbit Without Ears,” which grossed $85 million.
“Love Thing” is produced by German production-distribution powerhouse Constantin Film, which has set its release for July 7. Netflix is making its first foray into German original films, unveiling a slate of three projects that it will produce with local film and TV powerhouses Ufa, X Filme and Zdf.
In the lineup are “Betongold” (“Concrete Gold”), a fast-paced satire about the world of real estate from Ufa Fiction; “Isi & Ossi,” a young-adult romcom from X Filme Creative Pool; and “Freaks,” a drama about a working-class mom with supernatural powers, from Zdf and Lüthje Schneider Hörl Film. The movies are set to start production this spring and will be released globally on Netflix from 2020.
The feature projects follow Netflix’s strong commitment to series in Germany, where it is currently producing a slew of shows, including supernatural hit “Dark” and gritty crime drama “Dogs of Berlin.”

Picture Tree Intl. has picked up sales rights to “The Boy Needs Some Fresh Air” (Der Junge muss an die frische Luft), directed by Oscar-winner Caroline Link. The film, which was released by Warner Bros. on Dec. 25 at more than 700 locations across Germany, has garnered a box office of €10.6 million ($12.1 million) to date. Pti will launch it as a market premiere at Berlin’s European Film Market in February.

Netflix has acquired the rights to German period hospital drama series “Charité” in multiple territories, including the U.S., the U.K., Canada and Australia. The show is produced by Ufa, whose credits include “Generation War,” “Deutschland 83” and “Ku’damm 56 – Rebel With a Cause.”
In a deal with sales agent Global Screen, the streaming giant has taken rights to the six-part production in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, Benelux, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and German-speaking Europe. The follow-up to Deutschland 83 is to be made available on Channel 4 and Walter Presents after Amazon Germany ordered a second series of the spy thriller.
The local arm of the online giant has taken the first-window rights to Deutschland 86 and will feature the show on Amazon Prime Video in Germany in 2018.
German commercial channel Rtl Television, which commissioned the first series in 2014, has secured the first-look option for linear TV, with plans to air the sequel in 2018/2019.

Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Uwe Horn were a Las Vegas institution who regularly performed at the Mirage Resort and Casino for fourteen years before an on-stage tiger attack in 2003 brought a sudden end to their careers. Roy was left partially paralyzed by the attack.
Nico Hofmann will produce while Siegfried and Roy themselves will serve as executive producers alongside Sebastian Werninger and Jan Mewes. Pixomondo ("Game of Thrones," "The Walking Dead") will provide the visual effects.
