RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Willam has joined the cast of the Off-Broadway musical Titanique and we have the first photos of the star on stage as Victor Garber!
Willam is best known for appearing on season four of Drag Race back in 2012 and for making a memorable appearance in Lady Gaga‘s A Star Is Born movie.
Titanique is billed as an “irresistibly funny and irreverent new musical send-up of the blockbuster film Titanic, featuring the songs of pop icon Celine Dion.”
Here is the official synopsis: “Want to find out what really happened to Jack and Rose on that fateful night? Just leave it to Céline Dion to casually hijack a Titanic Museum tour and enchant the audience with her totally wild take, recharting the course of Titanic’s beloved moments and characters with her iconic song catalog.”

Exclusive: A film adaptation of the Jerry Torre memoir The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens is in the works by Unger Media. Torre’s story was detailed in the book co-authored by him and Tony Maietta released in 2018.
Torre was nicknamed “The Marble Faun” by Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith Bouvier Beale, better known as Big Edie and Little Edie and the aunt and cousin, respectively, of former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. As a teen, Torre appeared in their 1975 documentary, Grey Gardens.
The forthcoming film, also titled The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens, will tell the story of a gay teenage runaway from Brooklyn framing Big Edie and Little Edie as the misguided guardian angels in his life—and beyond.
Leo Geter (Longmire) is penning the script and will also produce; Drew Droege and Unger Media CEO Jonathan Unger will executive produce. Torre is also involved creatively.

"Every parent's dream is to spend a week without their family" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for Me Time, a new comedy from writer / director John Hamburg. Who's ready for another absurd and crazy Kevin Hart Netflix project?? When a stay-at-home dad finds himself with some “me time” for the first time in years while his family is away, he reconnects with his former best friend for a wild weekend that nearly upends his life. Mark Wahlberg co-stars with Kevin Hart, and a huge ensemble cast including Regina Hall, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Jimmy O. Yang, plus John Amos, Anna Maria Horsford, Andrew Santino, Deborah S. Craig, Naomi Ekperigin, and Drew Droege. This looks so stupid, there's no way to not admit this about it, especially when they get into this wingsuit scene at the end. This is campy 90s crap that wasn't supposed to be in movies ...

If a crisis erupts on board a commercial aircraft, you want to know the flight attendants are prepared to handle any desperate situation. Chris, Wes, and Clear, the cabin crew in the comedic short Cock N’ Bull 3, are not those guys. They’re more likely to be the cause of an emergency than the ones resolving it.
Wes (Danny Rhodes) provides a running stream of non-faa approved commentary over the Pa system. Chris (Nathan Adloff) locks eyes with an older man within minutes of takeoff. Later, he tumbles out of the forward lavatory with his shirt off, apparently having just joined the Mile High Club with his gentleman friend. Clear (Pete Zias) declares, “I wanna get fucked in there!”
Things only get more chaotic on the ill-fated red eye from L.A. to New York, after the pilot mysteriously becomes incapacitated. Cock N’ Bull 3, directed by Adloff and co-written by Adloff and Rhodes,...

“Victoria’s Secret for men.” That’s how International Male, the clothing catalogue founded by Gene Burkard is described in the opening moments of Bryan Darling and Jesse Finley Reed’s “All Man: The International Male Story.” Only the description should have an important caveat: This smorgasbord of images of men in the sexy (if aggressively outrageous) outfits that adorned Burkard’s 1976 creation were aimed at a specific subset of men. Telling a straightforward tale about this queer-skewing business, “All Man” opens up inquiries on how masculinity has been packaged for the American consumer, straight and gay alike.
The comparison to Victoria’s Secret is an apt one, capturing the way the many talking heads that populate “All Man” speak to and understand Burkard’s goals and ambitions. International Male, like that famous lingerie brand, sold a lifestyle in addition to offering plenty of fodder for sexual fantasies. Its pages were full of photos of ripped,...

Cheyenne Jackson is adding producer to his resume. The actor and singer has quietly launched a production company, Shiny Boy Entertainment, with his husband Jason Landau, the couple exclusively tells me.
Their first project is “Brutal,” director Sam McConnell’s comedy short about a news anchor (Jackson) who acquires a leaked sex tape of a longtime U.S. senator. The cast also includes Rachael Harris (“Lucifer”), Angelica Ross (“Pose”), Johnny Sibilly (“Queer as Folk”), Drew Droege (“Search Party”) and Matthew Morrison (“Glee”). “Brutal” will premiere June 18 at Frameline in San Francisco followed by a Los Angeles rollout at Outfest in July.
Jackson came on as a producer of “Brutal” after McConnell offered him the lead role. “We’re using ‘Brutal’ as a proof of concept. We think it would be a great series kind of in the vein of ‘Veep,’” Jackson says.

After the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday night denied a request to issue emergency relief blocking Texas’ new law that bans abortion at six weeks and, say opponents, effectively eliminates access to abortions statewide, some big names in entertainment expressed their opinions about the legislation.
A group of prominent actors, musicians and other artists and companies swiftly responded to the news on social media. Reese Witherspoon, Alyssa Milano, Dua Lipa, Kerry Washington, St. Vincent, Eva Longoria Baston, Bad Robot and P!nk were among them. Many shared an image with the text, “I stand in solidarity with Texans & people everywhere seeking reproductive freedom.” The full list of the celebrities who support that sentiment is below; the vast majority of the signatories are women.
Washington also shared a link to a Planned Parenthood petition which, among other things, maintains that “health care — including safe, legal abortion — is a human right.

Need a little content with your cruising? Grindr is getting into the scripted entertainment game with “Bridesman,” a new 10-minute episodic series starring beloved internet comedian Jimmy Fowlie. Created by John Onieal, “Bridesman” follows the exploits of the titular gay bridesman (Fowlie) as he attempts to undermine his best friend’s wedding. Fast-paced and irreverent, the series features queer talent both in front of and behind the camera, part of Grindr’s stated mission for the new exploit.
“‘Bridesman’ is tailor-made for the Grindr community — it’s smart, queer, campy, and features sharp commentary on gay dating, heteronormative standards, and Grindr itself,” said Grindr’s Alex Black. “We are so proud to be showcasing some of the finest talent in the queer community as we continue to find new and creative ways to connect our users.”

In the words of “Sweeney Todd” pie baker Mrs. Lovett, “Times is hard.” As everyone adjusts to the new reality of working remotely, comedians and filmmakers who rely on freelance work are being hit hard. Film and TV productions are shutting down faster than we can update our exhaustive running list. Comedians are losing out on precious weekly gigs. Theater practitioners are worried the nonprofit theater world may not bounce back. An already tenuous lifestyle just became a whole lot harder.

Parent-company Viacom rebranded Spike TV, earlier this year. The newly minted Paramount Network didn't get off to the best start though, and emblematic of its rough beginning is the rocky road its new Heathers TV show took to the air. First it was postponed, then rescheduled, and then cancelled, because of all the recent school violence. When Paramount couldn't find any takers, they decided to air nine of the 10-episode first season after all, with some content edited out. Are they just making back what money they can, or does this series stand a chance? Will Heathers be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.

As far as gay film festivals go, Outfest takes the cake. Now in its 36th year, the Los Angeles-based festival is the country’s leading Lgtbq film festival, supporting independent queer film and filmmakers for over three decades. This year, two thirds of the program is directed by women, people of color, and/or trans filmmakers. “The reason we put on this festival is to encourage the Lgbtq community and the wider community — mainstream culture — to recognize the inherent value and infinite diversity,” said Outfest head programmer Lucy Mukerjee. “We have to continue to celebrate and showcase queer artists so they can get the same level of access and opportunity as white male directors.”

It’s a brave new world; it was only a matter of time before we got a brave new “Heathers.” The cult classic that inspired a generation of teenage slackers and weirdos is getting a television reboot, and it’s switching things up quite a lot from the looks of this first teaser released on Instagram, where all the aspiring Heathers hang out these days.
The original “Heathers” starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater as kindred spirits who team up to take down the popular girls, who are all named Heather. Released in 1988, the movie’s pitch black comedy and dry humor stood out against the more wholesome losers of John Hughes’ high school comedies. In the reboot, the central trio has been updated to include a genderqueer person named Heath (Brendan Scannell), a black lesbian (Jasmine Mathews) and an overweight girl (Melanie Field).

In this week's Indie Spotlight column, we're talking about a series that observes a young man's personal transformation -- and plays it for laughs. The show is called Ding Dongs, and it stars its creator, Joseph Baken, as a Mormon who grapples with his gay identity during a missionary trip to Los Angeles.
The arc of Ding Dongs -- at least in its first episode, which is now available on Baken's YouTube channel -- centers around its young protagonist, Elder Clark. While he is committed to God and his faith, his trip to the big city also ignites a personal journey within him. At the same time, Elder Clark plays straight man (no pun intended) to a slew of offbeat supporting characters. Ding Dongs' excellent casts includes well-traveled actor Drew Droege and drag queen Willam Belli.
As Baken explained in an article he penned for Advocate, Ding Dongs draws from...

Backstage held its final Facebook Live interview of 2016 on Dec. 19 with actors Drew Droege and Michael Urie. Droege, whom many will know from his viral Chloë Sevigny parody YouTube videos, rounded out his year with an acclaimed run of his Off-Broadway solo show, “Bright Colors and Bold Patterns,” at the Barrow Street Theatre in New York City. He wrote the riotous show and tapped Urie (a one-person show vet with “Buyer & Cellar”) to direct. In conversation with Backstage, Droege offered readers advice on creating your own work, internalizing a script, and finding success across various mediums. Work to memorize your lines, then just breathe. “The joy of being the only one up there [in a solo show] is that it’s just me. We will figure it out somehow. I’m not gonna throw another actor off,” Droege said of memorizing 70 minutes of lines. “And sometimes, those are the most interesting moments for the...

Remember this name: Brian Jordan Alvarez. He is the director, writer, producer and star of the short form comedy “The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo,” an electric comedy that plugs into the zeitgeist the way “Girls” did, banters like “Broad City,” and boasts the chutzpah necessary in order to get away with naming a character “Lenjamin McButtons.”
Part of the genius of “Caleb Gallo” is that it defies conventional wisdom about making a short form series compelling to online audiences: The episodes are long, there is no discernible premise that can be squeezed into a snappy log line — even the title is a mouthful. Most potentially problematic is that if one were to summarize its plot, “Caleb Gallo” is basically a series about the love lives of five actor friends living in Los Angeles, one of the digital space’s most tired premises. These days, anyone making a...

A couple months ago, I wrote a piece for Indiewire about all the reasons I decided to make my web series, "The Impossibilities," rather than a feature film. Once the article went live, I was surprised and psyched by the number of web creators who reached out with questions about their web series. It became abundantly clear that there aren’t enough resources out there yet for this new field of independent filmmaking. There’s no manual. No masters degree you can get. Right now, our best resource is our fellow filmmakers. Read More: 10 Reasons You Should Make a Web Series Instead of an Indie Film In the last article, I talked about the how and the why of making a web series, but that's just half the battle. How do you make your show stand out in a sea of content? I crowdsourced this question to the creators of four independently produced online series,...
