Built on a foundation of successful and highly collectible soundtrack reissues, the debut issue from Waxwork Records’ House of Waxwork comic book series has quickly established itself as one of the most sought-after treats this Halloween season. A showcase of paperback scares, movie poster aesthetics, and a devilish “host” character (The Die-Rector), House of Waxwork oozes with nostalgic nods to both EC Comics and VHS horror. Waxwork also carves out a niche selling point for themselves by pairing up the comic with an original 7-inch soundtrack which will both immerse and entertain the reader. With issue one out now in both stores and online, Daily Dead caught up with Kevin Bergeron, co-owner of Waxwork Records, to chat about the past, present, and future of the Waxwork comic brand.
After establishing Waxwork as one of the premier soundtrack record labels, what made you want to branch off into comics? Was this always your intention?...

Former White Zombie bassist Sean Yseult opens up about her days with the band and the release of a new compilation and coffee table book. Amidst the manic, go-go early days that saw White Zombie tearing up the Lower East Side, reflection took a backseat to creation. “When [vocalist] Rob [Zombie] and I started the…

Star & Dagger, an all-female blues rock unit founded by former White Zombie bassist Sean Yseult, recently released their debut album Tomorrowland Blues. and the track “In My Blood” is now accompanied by an ambitious video which pays shot-by-shot homage to Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror classic The Shining. Of course, Star & Dagger isn't the first band to quote the iconic imagery from that film, and probably won't be the last (the best-known example being “The Kill” by Thirty Seconds to Mars). But “In My Blood” offers some of the more faithful and clever recreations of Shining set-pieces we've seen lately, and it's pretty clear Yseult's genre and cult movie sensibilities extend far beyond her tenure in White Zombie (the band's earlier video for “Your Mama Was a Grifter” is a spin on the grindhouse classic Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!). The trio, which also includes vocalist Von Hessling and guitarist Dava She Wolf,...

Former White Zombie bassist Sean Yseult posted a very interesting track (bizarre, actually) to her Soundcloud page recently... a song she claims to be the result of an impromptu jam in the early '90s between members of White Zombie and Pantera... including the late, great guitar legend Dimebag Darrell. The track is entitled "Dawn of the Horrible Gorilla!" (exclamation point included). Go below to find out where you can hear it for yourself... "Dimebag Darrell, Sean Yseult and [then Pantera vocalist] Philip Anselmo created this absurdity at 6am after a long night of drinking on a Pantera/White Zombie Tour in '92," Yseult wrote in the song's info. "Recorded on Darrell's 4-Track in his hotel...

Wednesday night's (March 18) episode of "American Idol" featured perhaps the best musical performances of this season. Ke$ha and 3Oh!3 blew everybody away with the spectacle that was "Blah Blah Blah" and David Cook delivered a soul-filled, extra-loud performance of the Rolling Stones' "Jumpin' Jack Flash." But the pleasant surprise of the night came care of Orianthi, the former Michael Jackson guitarist who dropped her latest album Believe and scored a hit with "According to You."
Orianthi represents something of an endangered species in today's rock landscape: A truly badass female guitarist. Wednesday night's performance (along with her greater body of work, especially in "Michael Jackson's This Is It") slides her into the list of the 10 best female guitarists of all time. Who else is on there? Glad you asked.

I was first exposed to the music of White Zombie through a blind buy of their 1989 Caroline Records release Make Them Die Slowly (the spine of the CD oddly says “Let Them Die Slowly”). At the time, I didn’t really enjoy it, and I later went on to trade in the disc at a local record store in favor of something a little more “metal.”
At the time, I was in high school, and riding on the cusp of that “am I a punk kid, a metalhead, or a part of the grunge movement?” identity crisis that many of my peers also faced in the early 1990's. I’d later come to realize that labels of genre were not important, and that good music was all that ever really mattered.
