By the time we meet them, Chatila and Reda already are down in the lower depths. Cousins from Palestine, they have spent much of their lives living as refugees on the run. Having made it as far as Athens, a kind of holding zone for people from the Middle East trying to slip into Europe, they are trying to scrape together money to get to Germany.
Ferrety Chatila (Mahmood Bakri) is masterminding the cousins’ next fundraising operation in one of Athens’s pleasantly proletarian parks, directing his sweet-faced cousin Reda (Aram Sabbah) to fall over on his skateboard in front of a middle-aged woman who almost certainly will help him. Chatila’s job is to snatch her handbag and run. It’s mean, it’s shabby, and it’s miserably cheap. Their mark’s purse contains 5 euros, the price of a couple of coffees. They won’t be able to...

The brilliant Palestinian-Danish documentarian Mahdi Fleifel (“A World Not Ours”) leaps successfully into fiction with a feature debut that borrows a narrative container from “Midnight Cowboy” and a tormented soul that is all Palestinian.
The film opens with a quote from the celebrated Palestinian scholar, Edward Said: “In a way, it’s a sort of fate of Palestinians not to end up where they started, but somewhere unexpected and far away.” These words have been cutting since the moment they were first spoken years ago, but released into the world now during the horrific genocide in Gaza, they have an extra, desperate bite, as another generation is forced to seek displacement as the only alternative to violent death. Premiering at Cannes in this climate, Fleifel’s portrait of two individual characters asks questions that cannot be confined to the screen. Where do you belong after you have been driven from your homeland?...

The tragic predicament of the Palestinians and what they’re now being subjected to begs to be analyzed and dissected, with various areas of dubious historical consensus put to new scrutiny; in Mahdi Fleifel’s fiction debut To a Land Unknown, we’re solely in a disorienting present tense, where there’s seldom time to think and reflect, only to agitate for survival.
The director himself was raised in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, a background echoed in the film’s key characters, before he settled in Denmark and studied in the UK; thus, he’s never lived under direct contact with the Israeli occupation. Acclaimed docs followed, most notably I Signed the Petition, a 10-minute short that went semi-viral, concerning the calls to boycott Radiohead’s 2017 concert in Tel Aviv. This post contains spoilers for "Peaky Blinders."
The world of "Peaky Blinders" is often unsurprisingly violent and shockingly visceral, and the characters who inhabit it tend to be haunted by their own demons. Among the Shelbys, Arthur (Paul Anderson) is the most volatile, oscillating between rabid outbursts and complex vulnerability — the very complexity that draws us to the character. Over the course of the show, Arthur reaches many emotional extremes, his inner conflicts externalized in the most brutal ways, as opposed to Thomas (Cillian Murphy), who tends to direct his doubts and scrutiny inward. Anderson brings these excesses to life with incredible flair, and there's also a certain sense of restraint in how Arthur conveys unspoken emotions, at least when he is not indulging in ultraviolence to feel a little less empty on the inside.

Netflix’s new show Fiasco by Igor Gotesman is an absolute riot! It’s all about this filmmaker, Raphael Valande, trying to make a movie called “Woman of Resistance,” which is inspired by his grandma, Huguette Valande. And, oh boy, does it have more twists and turns than you could ever imagine? Picture The Office or Parks and Recreation, but in the chaotic world of filmmaking. So, Raphael, bless his heart, has about as much authority as a fluffy bunny. He’s super passionate but totally clueless about how to take charge on set as a director. But then, in a desperate attempt to be the boss, he goes overboard, and everything starts to spiral out of control faster than you can say “cut!” And then, bam! Someone sneaks out a video of Raphael completely losing it on set. I’m talking about everything from making cringeworthy, sexist comments to...

It was actress Jameela Jamil who was responsible for bringing Megan Thee Stallion onto the screen for a brief cameo in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Stallion played herself in the series and even shared some dance moves with lead actress Tatiana Maslany. While the executive producers of the show believed Stallion’s scene to be one of the “most important” ones in the MCU, it may turn out to be the franchise’s biggest regret.
Hiss singer Megan Thee Stallion becomes Marvel’s new headache as her lawsuit affects the studio’s reputation
Stallion’s former cameraman Emilio Garcia filed a lawsuit against the Savage singer alleging that she trapped him inside a moving Svu while she had s*x with a woman (via NBC News). Disney and Marvel may have to denounce Stallion in the same manner as Jonathan Majors after the lawsuit.

Tatiana Maslany is reflecting on her decision to publicly call out Disney CEO Bob Iger during the actors strike in 2023.
The 38-year-old actress portrays Jen Walters aka She-Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having made her debut in the 2022 Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
When Bob said that unions’ demands during the strike weren’t “realistic,” Tatiana responded by slamming the executive.
“He’s completely out of touch with the workers who make his shows happen, who make people watch these shows, who bring viewers to him and him money,” she told THR at the time. “Having worked on a Disney show, I know where people fall through the cracks and where people are taken advantage of, and it’s outrageous the amount of wealth that is not shared with the people who actually make the show. That’s crew, cast, writers.”

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments in Season 1, Episode 3 of “3 Body Problem,” currently streaming on Netflix.
When David Benioff and D.B. Weiss first approached John Bradley about starring in their new series, “3 Body Problem,” they explained that his character would in many ways be the antithesis of the role that launched the actor’s career on their previous show, “Game of Thrones.” On that series, Bradley’s Samwell Tarly was a deferential and soft-spoken nobleman forced to forsake his fortune and standing for a life of anonymity. On “3 Body Problem,” Bradley’s Jack Rooney is a brash and self-possessed working class kid who chooses to give up a career in academia to build a fortune in snack foods.
It wasn’t until Bradley received the first set of scripts for “3 Body Problem,” however, that he understood that Jack had a more fundamental difference from Sam: He’s brutally murdered.

This article contains spoilers for 3 Body Problem episode 2 “Red Coast.”
The early episodes of Netflix sci-fi epic 3 Body Problem are fraught with mystery. Why is science suddenly “broken?” What does the countdown mean? How does the Chinese Cultural Revolution factor in to all of this? All of those enigmas are best represented by one spooky lady in particular: Tatiana Haas (Marlo Kelly).
At this point, viewers have already met the smiling woman who prepped Auggie (Eiza González) for the universe to “wink” at her in episode 1. But Tatiana’s identity, allegiance, and motivations remain a mystery. That mystery is largely solved in episode 2 “Red Coast” thanks to a disquieting scene involving Clarence “Da” Shi (Benedict Wong), a cemetery, and a gravestone that reads “Edith Marsh.” It all amounts to one of 3 Body Problem‘s best Easter eggs and a helpfully quick characterization of one of its most important villains.

As quickly as it started, Netflix’s eight-episode “3 Body Problem” ends, in a blur of VR headsets and scientist murders and that one time they sliced up a ship like bologna.
Though it hasn’t been greenlit yet, creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo have plans for Season 2, and Cixin Liu’s book series is a trilogy. Even if this is the end for now, the story remains open-ended. So what should viewers make of the finale?
What matters most is the foundation laid in previous episodes. An alien civilization called the San-Ti is headed toward Earth, expected to arrive in over 400 years. Though their original goal was to conquer Earth and escape their own tri-solar system, they realized that human technology would advance and likely surpass the San-Ti’s by the time they arrive. “This is a funeral procession,” their VR avatar says in a previous episode.

For most of 3 Body Problem’s first season, Saul is on the fringe as his friends go through some major stuff. Auggie mandolins a panamax (or nearly so) ship. Jin gets recruited as humanity’s last hope. Will tries to live as much as he can until cancer decides he won’t. Jack gets into, and then really out of, videogaming. And while Saul’s intelligence, as well as his loyalty to his pals, is never in question, he doesn’t… do a whole lot.

Coming up on NCIS: Hawai’i is one protection detail assignment Lucy (Yasmine Al-Bustami) really doesn’t want. And the longer it goes on? The more that’s true. In the March 25 episode, “Serve and Protect,” the team is tasked with protecting Tatiana, the daughter of a Russian oligarch carrying a deadly secret. Stuck with the hardest part of that—actually spending time with Tatiana—is Lucy, and the other woman knows much more about her than she’s comfortable with. Al-Bustami previews the assignment, talks about Lucy and Kate’s (Tori Anderson) future, including that conversation about weddings, and much more. Lucy must protect the daughter of a Russian oligarch, and that gets intense both in terms of the action and also in terms of someone who knows stuff about her she’d rather she didn’t. What can you preview? Yasmine Al-Bustami: First of all, she doesn’t...

Gone are the days of seeing Liam Cunningham as the trusted deputy of Stannis Baratheon! The knight has now embraced modernity, as he’s playing the suit-booted Thomas Wade, leader of the Planetary Defense Committee, in Netflix’s 3 Body Problem. The show is rightfully touted as the next big thing, considering it’s coming from Benioff and Weiss, the same duo who once created a little something called Game of Thrones. And like the HBO show, this one is also based on a series of super popular books—only the genre is science fiction this time.
Cunningham’s character, Thomas Wade, is the face of an organization fighting an alien race, San-Ti-Ti, whose primary agenda is taking over the world and ending humankind. Inarguably the sassiest character in the show, Wade is dynamic, very pragmatic, and also very courageous. He wouldn’t hesitate to murder a lot of innocent...

The idea of making major changes to the source material isn't exactly a foreign concept to "3 Body Problem" creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The pair famously became household names during their tenure on HBO's "Game of Thrones." While they remain infamous among mainstream audiences for the very public criticisms leveled against the final season of the hit fantasy series, the more invested fans have followed their every move from the beginning. Changes both minor and major inspired breathless internet hot takes but, for the most part, the two proved adept at taking occasionally impenetrable concepts from the books and translating them into live action.

The previous episode of 3 Body Problem revealed San-Ti’s intention with Planet Earth. The San-Ti’s home planet experiences frequent extinction events, which is why they need a new home. The solution to their dilemma is provided by Wenjie, who hates humankind and invites them to Earth. It will take them 400 years to reach Earth, but in the meantime, Wenjie, with Mike Evans’ help, creates a fifth columnist kind of organization against human science and development, given that humans have always been detrimental for their own sakes. After Jack’s murder by San-Ti’s followers for turning them down, Jin is persuaded by Wade to visit the organization’s London summit. Reluctantly, she complies, and at the venue, the police end up ambushing the summit. After an unprovoked gunfight started by Tatiana, Clarence and his forces finally arrest Ye Wenjie, who is revealed to be the founder of the organization.

In the previous episode of 3 Body Problem, Jin and Jack play through two more levels of the VR game, solving the riddles. Through the multiple gameplays that they indulged in, Jin concluded that the planet is part of a solar system with three suns. Inherently, the planet revolves around a single sun, but because of its proximity to the other two suns, the planet suffers from chaotic periods in the form of extinction events. The planet’s position in the system is a classic example of a three-body problem in physics that has practically no possible solution.
Proceeding to level 3, Jin and Jack find out that the game’s objective is not to prevent the planet from destruction but to ensure the survival of the people. Since a three-body problem can have no solution, the only solution to ensuring the survival of the inhabitants is for them to flee.

Thais Ramone is the latest 90 Day Fiance cast member to have cosmetic work done.
The 26-year-old reality TV star looks fantastic, especially after giving birth in November 2022, but she felt she needed to target some “problem” areas.
Thais shared some footage of her procedures in her Instagram Story, revealing that she had some non-invasive work done recently.
As the Brazilian beauty lay on her procedure bed, she filmed her aesthetician, Tatiana, getting to work on her abdominal area.
Tatiana waved a wand back and forth over Thais’ belly in the video, which was captioned, “Getting rid of this belly roll.”
In a second slide, Thais explained what she had done.

Dev Patel has come a long way from being the slumdog. Images from his feature directorial debut, Monkey Man, feature him standing menacingly in a suit or with an ominous mask of a monkey on and you see that the film is produced by Jordan Peele, so it gives the impression that it could be a new psychological horror movie. Then, the trailer shows Patel taking on opponents in a wrestling ring and plowing through bad guys like John Wick and Jackie Chan to the soundtrack of a bumpin’ Jay-Z tune. Immediately, heads turn at attention.
Patel’s Monkey Man has now premiered at SXSW, and the first reactions are in. Those in attendance at the unveiling have taken to social media and revealed that once the credits rolled and the lights came up, Patel received a standing ovation when taking the stage. @AnAntLife posted a video of a tearful...

The final trailer for Netflix’s 3 Body Problem teases that “they” are coming and reveals the discovery in the ’70s of something called the “Wow” signal. There’s a lot going on in the final trailer, yet it still manages to pull off being as vague as possible. If you haven’t read Liu Cixin’s 3 Body Problem book trilogy, the trailer will hint at what’s in store without spoiling the experience.
Game of Thrones‘ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and True Blood‘s Alexander Woo created the series and serve as writers, showrunners, and executive producers. Netflix’s Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series, encouraged Benioff and Weiss to read the trilogy back in 2019, and both were immediately hooked.

‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’ was one of the most anticipated MCU series, but it faced mixed reception upon release for valid reasons. Firstly, despite each episode costing around $25 million, totaling $225 million, the show’s CGI effects were lackluster. While it’s understandable for the whole character to be CGI, She-Hulk often looked out of place.
The second major criticism focused on the writing. Despite featuring cameos, jokes, mindless fun, and meta-humor, the series struggled with a vapid and flat storyline that contributed little to the broader MCU. The inclusion of a twerking scene also sparked divided opinions.
Rumors about a second season for ‘She-Hulk’ circulated in the summer of 2023, with some suggesting development would start after the conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike. This raised eyebrows, considering that other better-received series with more content had not received a second season. The desire for more ‘She-Hulk’ seemed somewhat far-fetched in comparison.

‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’ was one of the most highly anticipated MCU series, but upon release, the show received mixed reception due to some very valid reasons. First, the show had lackluster CGI effects despite each episode costing around $25 million, which totals to $225 million. No one could explain how such an expensive show could look so bad; the whole character had to be CGI, that’s understandable; however, more often than not, She-Hulk truly looked out of place.
The second most-often criticism was directed toward the writing itself; the show featured plenty of cameos, plenty of jokes, mindless fun, and meta-humor so that it could hide how vapid and flat the whole storyline was and how it added nothing of importance to the grander MCU. There’s also that twerking scene, but I’m not even going to comment on that you either hated it or loved it.

For as long as there has been James Bond, there has been the James Bond "girl." And for as long as there has been the James Bond "girl," there have been people rightfully noting that this descriptor is a bit demeaning. After all, these character are women and should be treated accordingly.
And the James Bond "woman" has run the gamut over the years. People have rightfully called out the franchise over the decades for its often shallow, childish sexism, teaming up Agent 007 with bimbos bearing ridiculous names. The laziest films in the series reduce the female co-stars to shallow eye candy, existing to be impressed by Bond and to be rescued in the climax. But we can't ignore the movies that get it right. How do you follow a smash hit like “Greedy,” which has spent nine days at Number One of Spotify’s Top 50 Global chart?

The vampire universe you are imagining is certainly different from the universe of this film. What are the rules generally? Vampires are hidden creatures, the ‘undead’, and can’t bear too much sunlight. Well, in V for Vengeance, debutant director Kelly Halihan brings an updated version of the legend of the vampire. Some aspects remain untouched, and I must add that they are kept the same for good reason. The film begins on a very familiar note, and we get to feel what kind of film it’s going to be. But within the frame of reference of the slick action thriller, writers Steven Paul and Peter Moore Smith infuse the characters with likable traits and put them in absurd yet exciting situations. The result is that this story, about three stepsisters, becomes a vampire-ridden revenge tale.

Terence Young's 1963 triumph "From Russia with Love" was the James Bond series' first sequel, and, 60 years later, it's still considered by many 007 aficionados to be one of franchise's finest installments. It's a brisk, surprisingly brutal film. The gadgetry popularized by 1964's "Goldfinger" (and launched well over the top by 1965's "Thunderball") is kept to a sensible minimum; for the most part, this is a revenge film in which our licensed-to-kill protagonist is lured into an elaborate defection plot designed to knock him off for having killed Spectre's Dr. No in the first movie. Narratively, it's as small potatoes as the mostly maligned "Casino Royale" follow-up "Quantum of Solace" (a revenge film in the other direction), but, at the time, it had the advantage of working within an unformed universe.

The show was developed by Jessica Gao and adapted from the Marvel comics. White Men Can’t Jump (2023) star Laura Harrier knows what it’s like to be the newcomer on set. After all, it wasn’t too long ago that she made what she considers to be her feature film debut opposite Michael Keaton in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). So, in Calmatic’s new take on Ron Shelton’s 1992 classic, White Men Can’t Jump, Harrier found herself welcoming rapper Jack Harlow to his first movie set and serving as the more experienced scene partner.
Harrier plays Tatiana, a dancer and choreographer who begins to lose her patience with her longtime boyfriend, Jeremy (Harlow), as the former college basketball player just can’t let go of his hoop dreams. Fortunately, unlike their characters, Harrier and Harlow didn’t take long to get on the same page.

Every time Lance Reddick appeared in White Men Can’t Jump, my heart ached a little. Reddick, a solid character actor of our time, has been in so many popular things, from Lost to John Wick, and no matter how the movie or show has turned out to be, the man has always nailed his parts. This movie, which is his first posthumous release of many, is no exception either, where Reddick pretty much nails it as the worn-out dad of one of the two main leads. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about White Men Can’t Jump.
Let me be very clear: I am not against remakes. In fact, I do like the idea of reimagining stories in different contexts. Not every single piece of art needs to be wholly original. But when you are remaking something like White Men Can’t Jump, a widely admired basketball comedy from the nineties,...

So, do you have an appetite for sports films after the entertaining true life-inspired Air from a few weeks ago? To be more specific do you have, as Cheech and Chong most famously proclaimed, a “basketball jones”? Oh, here’s the movie for you! Now unlike the earlier film, this isn’t set in the 1980s, though it has a connection to a previous decade. And it’s not “inspired by true events”. This is more of a rollicking “buddy comedy” and is a remake of a movie from over 30 years ago (the decade being the 1990s). Perhaps it will once and for all either prove this true or false per the still provocative title, White Men Can’T Jump.
Speaking of time, this version starts with a flashback going back only six or seven years. It’s a telling TV interview on a cable sports show profiling high school basketball...
