- Enjoyed a long career on Broadway, as an actress; active from 1932-1976. She originated the role of "Alice Sycamore" in the original hit stage production of 1936's "You Can't Take It With You" (which ran for a then-remarkable 838 performances).
- Her last appearance on Broadway was 1975/6 as Eva Le Gallienne's understudy in "The Royal Family".
- She was cremated. Her ashes were given to her daughter, Margot Avery.
