A new Guy Ritchie project is launching at the Cannes market with Black Bear.
Plot details are being kept under wraps and casting is in process but Wife And Dog will deal with class in a similar vein to recent Netflix TV series The Gentlemen.
Ritchie is coming off the starry action-comedy The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare as well as The Gentlemen. Apple pic Fountain Of Youth is in production and Black Bear project In The Grey is in post.
Warfare is the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced war movie starring Henry Cavill (Superman), Eiza González (Baby Driver), Alan Ritchson, Henry Golding, Henrique Zaga (Beyond The Universe), Alex Pettyfer, Cary Elwes (Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre), Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After franchise), Babs Olusanmokun and Til Schweiger. Black Bear was also in on that one.

Guy Ritchie has another film in the works that doubles down on the British upper class.
The prolific director — already behind this year’s Netflix hit “The Gentlemen” and WWII action thriller “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” — has unveiled his 18th feature film, “Wife and Dog,” with Black Bear launching sales in Cannes.
Plot details and cast are currently being kept under wraps, but Variety hears that with the film, Ritchie will return to the colorful, back-stabbing world of British aristocracy that he explored in both “The Gentlemen” Netflix series and 2019 feature. “Wife and Dog” will shoot in October, with an A-list cast reportedly in negotiations to star.
Ritchie wrote the screenplay and produces alongside long-time producing partner Ivan Atkinson and Black Bear’s John Friedberg. Executive producers include Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler for Black Bear.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Jonathan Nolan appeared on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast to tout his latest television series, Prime Video’s “Fallout,” but the conversation touched on Nolan’s time co-writing “Batman” movies with his brother, Christopher Nolan. The siblings share screenwriting credit on 2008’s “The Dark Knight” and 2012’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” Jonathan admitted that he was pushing for the Riddler to be the primary villain of “Rises” and not Bane, which is what Christopher and David S. Goyer were planning. Goyer co-wrote “Batman Begins” and worked on the stories for the two sequels.
“We had these conversations,” Jonathan said. “Bane came out of a conversation with David [Goyer] and Chris. I was unsure about that at the story stage, but I [didn’t want it to be] back seat driving. Chris understood that what we had done and what Heath [Ledger] had done with [Joker] — you didn’t want to go anywhere near it.”

Christopher Nolan is one of the most esteemed directors in the film industry. The filmmaker has carved out a niche for himself, and with back-to-back hits, Nolan has amassed a loyal fanbase too.
The Batman Begins director has a level of genius that shines through his work and captivates his audience. Unsurprisingly, it is almost every actor’s dream to work with him. However, it is quite hard to get a hold of him, as his brother, Jonathan Nolan, revealed recently.

Christopher Nolan wasn’t initially sold on the idea of directing The Dark Knight.
The 2008 sequel to Batman Begins starred Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne aka Batman and Heath Ledger as the Joker. The Dark Knight is Christopher‘s highest-grossing film to date, having generated over $1 billion worldwide.
Christopher‘s brother Jonathan Nolan recently revealed that the Oscar-winning filmmaker didn’t want to direct another comic-book movie after Batman Begins.

“Chris was on the fence about making another one,” Jonathan told Dax Shepard in the Armchair Expert podcast. “He didn’t want to become a superhero movie director.”
On Batman Begins, Jonathan recalled, “To me, it was like we built this amazing sports car, and I’m like, ‘Let’s take it for a drive. Don’t you want to make another one?’”
The Westworld co-creator then explained how he convinced his brother to direct The Dark Knight.

Christopher Nolan has one of the best superhero trilogies under his belt with Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises, but he once considered calling it quits after the first movie.
Jonathan Nolan recently sat down with Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast and explained that he had to push for his brother to return for The Dark Knight. “Chris was on the fence about making another one,” Jonathan said. “He didn’t want to become a superhero movie director.” While Jonathan said Chris was “very proud” of Batman Begins, he was also ready to move on to another project and needed some convincing to come back for more.

Jonathan Nolan said during a recent interview on the “Armchair Expert” podcast with Dax Shepard that it took some convincing to get his brother, Christopher Nolan, to agree to direct “The Dark Knight.” The filmmaker had already hit a superhero movie slam dunk with “Batman Begins” and was hesitant to make another comic book movie because he didn’t want his career getting pigeonholed.
“I worked on ‘Batman Begins’ in this slightly arm’s length capacity, but it was the one comic book my brother ever given me as a kid, ‘Batman: Year One,’ for my 14th birthday, and 10 years later I was on the set working with him,” Jonathan said, remembering thinking “this is nuts.”
“Chris was on the fence about making another one,” Jonathan continued, noting that Chris went straight from “Batman Begins” into helming the magician thriller “The Prestige.” “He didn’t want to become a superhero movie director.

Starring Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, sci-fi thriller Mercy is taking shape, with Kali Reis and Rafi Gavron among the actors joining its cast.
For the past few months, Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov has quietly assembled what could end up being one of the starriest sci-fi films of 2025. In January, Amazon MGM bought up the global theatrical rights for Mercy – which is unsurprising, given the package: it has Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson attached as its stars, and Hollywood veteran Charles Roven as its producer.
In the weeks since, more and more names have been added, including Annabelle Wallis (who starred in the gleefully twisted Malignant) and Kali Reis, who made a strong impression in the hit series True Detective: Night County. Most recently, Deadline reports that four more actors have been added to the roster: Rafi Garon (A Star Is Born), Chris Sullivan (This Is Us), Kenneth Choi (9-...

Annabelle Wallis stars opposite previously announced cast members Rebecca Ferguson (Doctor Sleep, Dune 2) and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Super Mario Bros.).
The sci-fi thriller is “Set in the near future when capital crime has increased, Mercy follows a detective (Chris Pratt) who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence.”
Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) will direct. Marco van Belle wrote the screenplay for Mercy.
Details about Annabelle Wallis’ character remain under wraps. The actor is no stranger to the genre, though, having previously starred in James Wan’s Malignant, the apocalyptic Silent Night, The Mummy, and Annabelle.

Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson are no strangers to the science fiction genre. Ferguson can currently be seen in the epic new chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, while Pratt is known for bringing Star-Lord to the screen in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that the Pratt and Ferguson sci-fi thriller that the two are set to co-star, Mercy, is set to be released theatrically next summer on August 15, 2025. Timur Bekmambetov’s Mercy is looking to add some sizzle to the late summer box office next year.
Amazon MGM Studios will release the sci-fi action-thriller in theaters nationwide Aug. 15, 2025. Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, fresh off of Dune: Part Two, star in the movie, which is expected to get a full global rollout.
Mercy, from a script by Marco van Belle, stars Pratt as a detective in the near future who finds himself accused of a violent crime and having to prove his innocence in a society where capital crime is on the rise.
The project came to Amazon MGM via veteran and prolific producer Charles Roven, who is busy this week celebrating winning an Oscar for Christopher Nolan’s Oppeneheimer.
Roven is producing Mercy with Atlas Entertainment senior vp Robert Amidon alongside Bekmambetov’s Bel banner and film producer Majd Nassif. The film is set to start shooting this spring.

While the 2024 Academy Awards made history in many ways, they also missed some opportunities to go down in the annals of memory. Anyway, Christopher Nolan, the British-American director who finally won an Academy Award after waiting several years, topped the list for Universal Pictures’ Oppenheimer.
On two separate occasions, in 2002 and 2011 for Memento and Inception, respectively, Nolan was nominated for Best Original Screenplay; however, he failed to win. He was again left empty-handed, despite receiving a nomination for Best Director in 2018 for Dunkirk.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer
At last, he was named Oppenheimer’s Best Director this year. Unexpectedly, it appears that Nolan might not be the real genius behind the glorious achievements of the Cillian Murphy-starrer film, which is based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Rather than blaming anyone else for the project’s spectacular successes, fans are now cheering for Robert Pattinson.

The Oscars ceremoniously wrapped a season dominated by blockbuster achievements, celebrating the extraordinary talents behind this year’s cinematic wonders. Despite the spotlight on artistic excellence, the awards season wasn’t without its missteps and controversies, notably influenced by voter apathy in the aftermath of prolonged industry strikes. This disengagement, particularly among American voters, may have bolstered the influence of the Academy’s sizable international constituency, aligning the Oscars’ outcomes more closely with the BAFTA selections than in years past.
Variety was predicting the exact 23 winners that resulted last evening in mid-February following the BAFTA Awards. After this pundit changed eight of them to the alternate picks, the lesson learned is the right answer is often the most obvious one.
Here are some takeaways from the evening’s celebrations.
“Killers of the Flower Moon”
Lily Gladstone was campaigned in the wrong category.
Emma Stone’s victory for her role in “Poor Things” stirred mixed emotions.

When I caught up with him and wife Emma Thomas at the Governors Ball after their seven-Oscar win for Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan was clearly relieved. “I was genuinely nervous tonight, ” he told me. “Even after all the awards shows we’ve been to this year, this one sitting there at the Oscars was just different.”

An awards season unlike any other — during which the first simultaneous strikes of actors and writers in Hollywood history largely prevented campaigning by talent for months — came to an end Sunday night at the 96th Academy Awards.
As was widely expected, Oppenheimer dominated, winning seven Oscars — no film has won more since Slumdog Millionaire snagged eight, 15 years ago — including for best picture (Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Chuck Roven), director (Nolan), actor (Cillian Murphy, the category’s first Irish winner), supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.), cinematography (Hoyte van Hoytema), film editing (Jennifer Lame) and original score (Lugwig Göransson).
That’s quite an achievement for not just the filmmakers, who adapted a book (Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer) that many thought was unadaptable into a riveting instant classic of a film, but also for the teams that sold it...

No Oscars go without some form of drama on stage. While this year the ceremony was relatively less controversial, one moment received much criticism from fans. Actor Al Pacino was invited on stage to present the award for Best Picture.
While no Envelope Gate (La La Land being announced instead of Moonlight) occurred, Al Pacino reportedly missed one key part of the presentation. The usual tradition is to read out the nominees first and then announce the winner. But the 83-year-old veteran reportedly skipped the nominations and went straight to announce the winner i.e. Oppenheimer.

“It’s very important to me, it’s really a wonderful finish to what’s been an incredible year,” Christopher Nolan told press backstage at the Academy Awards in the wake of winning both his Best Director Oscar for Oppenheimer, along with the biggest prize of the night: Best Picture.
“It means I can do curls, they’re very heavy,” Nolan joked of his new collection of statuettes for his film about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist behind the atom bomb. In Oppenheimer, longtime Nolan collaborator Cillian Murphy enacts the history of a man who changed our world forever, with Robert Downey Jr. as his jealous nemesis Lewis Strauss — both of whom won Oscars for their lead and supporting performances respectively. Emily Blunt starred as Kitty Oppenheimer and was nominated in the Supporting Actress category. The film took home seven Oscars in total, including Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography and Best Original Score.
