There is a lot that can be and has been said about the dance scenes in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. Little of it has been positive in the 17(!) years since the movie’s release. Undeniably leaning into the director’s goofier comic sensibility, the film twice detours from its dour tone—which begins when Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) dons the bad juju vibes of an alien symbiote—in order to have a laugh-out-loud dance break. In one sequence near the end of the second act, and after Peter has permanently scarred and attempted to kill his Bff (James Franco), Maguire’s protagonist struts down the streets of New York City to James Brown. The strut then becomes a full on disco-like routine after he upgrades to an all-black suit.
Several minutes later, Spider-Man 3 further ups the camp factor by seeing symbiote-influenced Peter attempt to make Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst...

In late November 2023, Will Loftis was visiting his parents in Irmo, South Carolina, when he started plotting a series of dance moves from his childhood bedroom. Surrounded by colorful lights, candles, and crystals, he looked straight into the en suite bathroom mirror. With AirPods in his ears and clutching his phone, he extended a straight leg forward and pointed his toe. He followed that dance step, called a tendu, with a passé. Ariana Grande fans know the sequence as something else: the choreography to the star’s “Yes, And?” video,...

“The Idol” may not be getting much critical love, but one place it’s thriving? TikTok. While pop star Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) drives herself to a mental and physical breaking point while shooting a music video for her new single “World Class Sinner / I’m a Freak,” creators have embraced Nina McNeely’s choreography. Yet when it comes to McNeely’s influences, the word “trending” doesn’t really apply — it’s more like “classic,” as the choreographer looked to dances that have stood the test of time for 25 years or more for inspiration.
“I wanted to dig into the classic tropes of what makes a pop star an icon,” McNeely told IndieWire. “I thought of stars like Madonna and others who used eroticism to push the boundaries and make big statements.” McNeely began researching the great erotic dance moments in film and music videos and started with one of the...

As The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is wrapping its five-season run, Emmy-winning creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino are prepping their next series. Prime Video has given a two-season order to Sherman-Palladino and Palladino’s Étoile, starring Mrs. Maisel duo of Luke Kirby, who won an Emmy for his work on the show, and Gideon Glick as well as Call My Agent! standout Camille Cottin, Simon Callow (Outlander), Lou de Laâge (The Innocents) and David Alvarez (West Side Story).
Set in New York City and Paris, the eight-episode Étoile follows the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies, as they embark on an ambitious gambit to save their storied institutions by swapping their most talented stars.
Word of the new series started trickling out last fall when Sherman-Palladino and Palladino held an Open Dance Call for an untitled ballet show. The duo will write, direct and executive produce the...

"10 Things I Hate About You" has its fair share of timeless moments, one of its finest being when Heath Ledger's snazzy, uber-cool Patrick Verona crashes the school's soccer practice to sing and woo Julia Stiles' Kat Stratford. It's so over the top it's almost extraordinary. It's memorable in the most endearing way. Ledger exuded the charm and goofiness necessary to make this scene one of the most classic displays of romance in film over the decades.
When director Gil Junger and his team envisioned the scene, they were inspired by "Showgirls" and Fred Astaire and hoped that Ledger could capture the magnetism for which the late dancer was famous. It wasn't an easy task: Ledger was no dancer, but he did have copious amounts of charm.

Certain individuals feel the infamous scenes of Tobey Maguire dancing in Sam Raimi's 2007 film "Spider-Man 3" represent a low point in the web-slinger's run on the big screen. The scenes in question find our boy Peter Parker (Maguire) under the influence of the Venom symbiote, causing him to go on a power trip. He shows off his sick moves to random pedestrians on the streets of New York City and even dares to use them to try and woo a new would-be love interest right in front of his ex-girlfriend Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst).
This would all be much more dramatic if Peter didn't come across as an absolute dork while strutting his (evil) stuff. That he looks as silly as he does is perfectly in character for our hero, who goes from being a kind-hearted dweeb to a jerky dweeb after Venom latches itself onto him. His...

Bunheads was cancelled long after the last episode of the ABC Family series was filmed so the cast and crew weren't able to give the show a proper series finale.
Series co-creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and some of the show's performers have now filmed a touching "last dance" to say thank you to the fans for all of their support.
The Bunheads video was directed by Sherman-Palladino and the dance was choreographed by Marguerite Derricks. It appropriately references back to memorable dances from the 18-episode series.
The piece stars Julia Goldani Telles (Sasha), Bailey Buntain (Ginny), and Jeanine Mason (Cozette), and also features Matisse Love, Ra’Jahnae “Rae Rae” Patterson, Colleen Craig, Maine Kawashima, Eli Gruska, Adam Bernstein, Edgar Khachaturov, Kara Hess, Micah Moch, Helen Pai, and Jackson Douglas.

The television landscape, particularly in recent years, is filled with shows that television critics adored and championed, yet which never managed to parlay critical acclaim into commercial success. One such show was the ABC Family series Bunheads; the latest effort from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino found itself cancelled earlier this year due to low ratings, despite numerous rallies from viewers and fans of the show. As a last hurrah, numerous key members of the show, including Amy Sherman-Palladino, choreographer Marguerite Derricks, and castmembers such as Bailey Buntain and Julia Goldani Telles got together to perform a final dance, set to Blues for Baby and Me by Elton John. The full performance can be seen below.

The Bunheads could have staged a revolt when news came that the beloved ABC Family show was not returning for a second season. We would have been right there with them.
But the ballerinas chose to bow out elegantly — with an emotional dance choreographed by Marguerite Derricks and directed by showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino. Featuring stars Julia Goldani Telles (Sasha), Bailey Buntain (Ginny), and Jeanine Mason (Cozette), the dance references various numbers seen throughout season one, including Sasha’s incredible “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” routine. Kaitlyn Jenkins, who played Boo, does not appear in the video due to an injury. Also absent are Sutton Foster,...

"Bunheads" may be over, but the kids are still dancing. A video put together by the series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino gives us a dance compilation called "A Farewell to Bunheads."
The video was filmed on Aug. 17, long after ABC Family canceled the single-season show. In it, the young dancers who made up Miss Fanny's studio wander into a fairly empty room and then proceed to perform. Those who watched the dance numbers obsessively should catch more than one reference to several "Bunheads" pieces. Sasha's "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" dance, for example, gets the repeat treatment.
Most of the young dancers and actors from the series are here. Bailey Buntain (Ginny), Julia Goldani Telles (Sasha), Kaitlyn Jenkins (Boo, who unfortunately couldn't perform because of an injury) and Jeanine Mason (Cozette) are joined by those seen mostly in the background of the show itself: Matisse Love, Ra'Jahnae "Rae Rae" Patterson, Colleen Craig, Maine Kawashima,...

In Amy Sherman-Palladino’s world, the men are furniture. Well, at least in the dance sequence featured in the season finale they are.
Season 1 of ABC Family’s delightful Bunheads came to a close Monday, and the word is still out on whether or not there will be a second season to follow. Throughout this season, the four bunheads have been coming into their own — growing up, growing apart, and becoming interested in boys — hence, a dance set to “Makin’ Whoopee” performed by Sherman-Palladino favorite Sam Phillips (the singer/songwriter responsible for much of the music in Gilmore Girls). "Bunheads" was one of the most refreshing surprises of the summer season, and now the show returns to ABC Family's schedule for eight more episodes beginning tonight (Jan. 7).
That means more of the sparkling wit and idiosyncratic style of creator Amy Sherman-Palladino ("Gilmore Girls") that separates "Bunheads" from everything else on ABC Family's schedule. And more of the delightfully screwed-up former showgirl Michelle (two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster) sparring with feisty mother-in-law Fanny (Kelly Bishop).
It also means more of the four young ballet students who give the show its name (and were just starting to come into their own when the initial run of 10 episodes ended in August): Julia Goldani Telles as rebellious prodigy Sasha, Kaitlyn Jenkins as passionate and good-natured Boo, Bailey Buntain as bubbly Ginny, and Emma Dumont blunt-talking tomboy Melanie.

HollywoodNews.com: Yes, there are a lot of “Dancing With the Stars” fans missing popular pro Derek Hough this season. However, “He is off to Canada to film a movie, ‘Cobu 3D.’ He’s starring. To many dancers working in Hollywood, their credits would not be complete unless they’ve auditioned, taken class from and/or worked for 3-time Emmy award-winning choreographer Marguerite Derricks. Her credits extend through film and television and now to theatre. We had a chance to speak with Marguerite after she had come home from working in Greece this past week. Although her theatre credits have included “A Class Act” and “Sister Act,” Marguerite’s true coming out party in New York will be her latest work on Frank Wildhorn’s “Wonderland: A New Alice. A New Musical.” She said, “For me, in my mind, I consider this to be my first Broadway show. Reason being is that I was there from the very beginning, really helping and being part of the creative team and developing the entire show; not just merely being there as a choreographer. On Tuesday night's "Dancing with the Stars," Kate Gosselin and Pam Anderson found themselves in the bottom two. It was ultimately the reality TV mom of eight Kate who got the boot. She took the news tearfully, telling host Tom Bergeron, "I need a minute," as she used a tissue to dab tears from her eyes, but received a standing ovation from the supportive audience. Kate said that she had had a gut feeling that she would be going home tonight, but said, "It's okay. … I'm very, very honored to have been here." When it came to all of her supporters who voted for her, she was awed, saying, "Wow -- thank you for believing in me, probably more than I believe in myself." Her partner Tony had nothing but love for his single-mom-of-eight partner, saying, "You know what, I'm very proud of Kate. … I give her all the credit in the world,...
