When he's not busy teasing a sequel to Independence Day, Jeff Goldblum is telling us to buy new lighting. The actor starred in a Ge advertisement directed by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim (collectively known as Tim & Eric), and it has rolled up 1.5 million views in its first week on YouTube. Tim & Eric, who run one of the four founding channels of the Jash network, are best known in the advertising world for directing the surreal "The Man Your Man Could Smell Like" ads for Old Spice. Their work for Ge, on the other hand, trends toward the intentionally campy tone they use for their TV show on Adult Swim. It stars Goldblum, who tells viewers how to "enhance your lighting" to the level of a famous person like him. The video even includes testimonies from "unremarkable nobodies" so that we don't have to just take Goldblum at his word.

For years, Swedish dreamboat Alexander Skarsgård has made a name for himself as the lusty, Nordic vampire Eric Northman on HBO's True Blood. But with the series drawing to a close in its seventh season, Skarsgård is looking to film for his next great adventure. And coming soon, he'll be a wild thing in the David Yates-directed Tarzan, which has now rolled into production. Hey U Guys reveals that Warner Bros. Tarzan is officially in full swing as filming has begun. With this news, the studio behind such spectacular tent poles as Godzilla and The Lego Movie is revealing Tarzan official plot synopsis: "It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Margot Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited ...

Welcome to the seventh and final season of "True Blood"! When a great, long-running show comes to the end of its run, it feels like the end of an era, and this is a great show. Or at least it was. It peaked around the time Russell Edgington pulled the news anchor’s spine out on live TV, then sat down to address the camera. and proceeded to show Howard Beale how it’s done. And the last couple of seasons were real off-road torture tests, raising troubling questions about the motives and abilities of almost everyone involved, starting with Rutger Hauer’s agent. Ultimately, the big question faithful viewers were left asking was, as Richard Pryor once so eloquently put it, “How long will this bullsh*** go on?” Now we know: whether the show rallies and pulls out of its tailspin or continues to spiral toward the Earth like...

Chances are that if you stuck around for the post-credits scene of X-Men: Days of Future Past, you were probably left wondering who the cloaked guy manipulating ancient Egyptian pyramids was. Maybe you’re a comic book aficionado and already knew who this mysterious mutant was. Either way, he is the oldest and original mutant, Apocalypse, and according to X-Men film writer Simon Kinberg, the destruction wrought upon the world will reach the heights of a Roland Emmerich (2012, Independence Day) film in the upcoming sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse.
Recently, Simon conducted a fairly informative interview discussing the back-story and tone for the Apocalypse character, but most importantly, just how he and director Bryan Singer plan on bringing such an and intimidating threat to life from the pages to the silver screen:
We’re definitely approaching him as a super charismatic leader that will draw people to his cause. So far, in the X-Men movies,...

We’re pretty sure Channing sums up our feelings about this movie in its new red-band trailer: ‘F**k yeah!’
I don’t remember my college experience being full of guns and Channing Tatum, but then again, I didn’t go to school in the world of 22 Jump Street. The red-band trailer for Channing and Jonah Hill‘s follow-up to 2012′s 21 Jump Street has finally hit the web, giving us our first look at their second undercover mission.
The new trailer also re-introduces us to a few familiar faces, including Nick Offerman as Deputy Chief Hardy, Dave Franco as Eric Molson and Ice Cube as Captain Dickson.
22 Jump Street arrives in theaters on June 13, 2014.

Sdcc 2013 may be over, but we’re still reeling from the wealth of information we received during the massive event. We’ve featured a lot of news (information, trailers, posters, etc) over the last few days, some exciting and some Super exciting. So whilst recovering, the Cinelinx team sat down to discuss our favorite things to have come out during Comic-Con this year. Come inside to check out our picks and share your own!
Jordan:
Oh man, this is a tough one for me, because I loved just about Everything from Sdcc this year. We got tons of great news, but if I had to narrow it down to a couple things, it’d probably be the Batman/Superman movie announcement and the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes image.
First of all, I don’t know how anyone can Not be excited about the Batman/Superman news.

People's critic digs Pacific Rim's robots, but wishes they could take out Grown Ups 2 along with the aliens. Skip this like it's cafeteria mystery meat• Grown Ups 2 The opening scene of Grown Ups 2 features a deer urinating into Adam Sandler's mouth. That's rich, given that he's the one who thinks you'll swallow anything. This pathetic sequel to the bewilderingly successful 2010 Grown Ups finds Sandler's Lenny Feder back in his hometown, living near old buddies Eric (Kevin James), Kurt (Chris Rock) and Marcus (David Spade) - but not too near, since Lenny is way richer than those guys.

As many in the Old West town of Prescott, Ariz., used the Independence Day celebration to honor 19 fallen firefighters, bereaved families began speaking more publically of their loved ones. Coleen Turbyfill, mother of 27 year-old Travis Turbyfill, on Thursday recalled that she had misgivings when her son's elite "Hotshot" firefighting crew set out for a fire burning so close she could see the flames, but he comforted her and told her, "This is what I love." Turbyfill and his 18 colleagues were killed last weekend battling a wildfire in Yarnell, not far from the place they called home. A red-eyed Amanda Marsh...

My Name is Earl alum Nadine Velaquez is joining the cast of Major Crime in its second season, according to Deadline. Velaquez will play a D.A. working on the Phillip Stroh case who clashes with Captain Raydor.
I guess Fox News was having a slow news day. Have there been any national stories they've been trying to ignore this week? Any anniversaries?...

One of several writers (Frank Darabont, David Goyer, David Callahan and Drew Pearce are the others) to take a crack at Gareth Edwards' developing Godzilla, Max Borenstein is now turning his attention to Mona. The project, a sort of sci-fi cyber political thriller (and not to be confused with William Gibson's Mona Lisa Overdrive), is an adaptation of a novel by Dan Sehlberg, and it's coming together at studio New Regency. It isn't published yet, so details of the book are only so much hearsay and press release so far, but the thrust seems to be the pursuit of a Lebanese cyber-terrorist. University professor Samir Mustaf's daughter Mona is killed by an Israeli cluster bomb, and he develops a sophisticated computer virus - named after the deceased - to cripple Israel's financial system.Unfortunately for Mustaf, however, the virus gets into a Swedish academic's prototype system designed to...

The Amazing Race Review, Season 21, Episode 11,
“Take Down That Million”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
What truly makes a strong team on The Amazing Race? The obvious answer is athleticism, but plenty of powerful young pairs have left early. Scanning through the winners, most are capable at physical challenges but don’t always stand out as the team to beat. Two weeks ago, Abbie and Ryan were eliminated purposely by the others due to their status as a threat. This felt like the right move because Josh and Brent have struggled at many tasks. Even so, their ease at handling mental challenges made them a deceptive choice to keep afloat. Unlike a show like Survivor, it’s problematic to try and manipulate who sticks around because future legs are unknown. There’s no jury at the end to choose the most worthy player. Instead, all it takes is...

Despite my qualms with most of season 5, I have to admit that True Blood really picked up the slack this week. It seems as if everyone involved remembered what the show was really about, as the newest episode explores the relationships between characters in an effective manner that didn’t seem as jarring as the past few weeks. There’s still about four too many storylines being followed, but at least I could bring myself to care about them this time.

It's the time of year where we learn the fate of our favorite shows and we get a glimpse into what pilots the networks are picking up for fall. I have always been amazed why certain shows like Jersey Shore receive a renewal, when others like Community sit in the wings.
It all comes down to the viewers themselves and an archaic ratings system (but I'm not going to go there.) Today, I'm going to discuss television viewers and the categories we all fit into. There are so many different types of viewers, I'm going to look at view specific "types," but feel free to add your own in the comments.
First, we have the "shipper" -- that is, someone who is desperate for a certain couple to get together, remain together, etc. These people are in it for the long haul. They love their specific couple and want anyone...

This is the sixth in a multi-part series, The Year in Television 2011.
Not everyone can be a TV actor Mvp. You have to have charisma, talent, and you need a memorable part that plays to your particular strengths on a well-written show. Also, good lighting helps. This year we surveyed the television landscape to come up with ten people - both male and femaile - who we really thought broke out from the pack and made inordinate contributions to their respective shows. Some are newcomers, others have been acting for years. These are the break out TV actors of 2011 and, speaking of lighting, we'd like to shine a little more on them.
Aaron Ashmore, Warehouse 13
After years playing Jimmy Olsen on Smallville, Aaron Ashmore joined season 3 of Warehouse 13 as Steve Jinks, a gay Atf agent with the unique ability to tell whether someone is lying.
It's not easy...

The Entourage Series Finale has come and gone, leaving TV watchers without any further exploits (pending a movie) of Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier), Eric (Kevin Connolly), Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon), Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) and of course Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven). But, Entourage living and its celebrity lifestyle need not stop with the TV finale. In the last two seasons of Entourage, we were introduced to Avión, a tequila brought to the states by Turtle. What some people don’t know is that Avión is actually a real Tequila. And, it just arrived at BuzzFocus just in time for Mexican Independence Day, Sept 16. The premium tequila is made from handpicked Blue Weber Agave grown at 7,000 feet in elevation. It shipped in this sweet bubble wrapping that looks like a bulk-pack of 25-cent ice pops you buy in the grocery store during the holidays. I only point this out because some liquor...

On those rainy bank holidays when the family board games came out did you ever think you would see the day when a movie based off Battleship would be one of the biggest tentpoles of the year? No, we didn’t either but such is the sign of the times when a major Hollywood studio are obsessed with playing dice on brands (Monopoly, Stretch Armstrong and Oujia are coming soon!) and starting to wonder whether it’s worth bothering with sci-fi epics like Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.
Perhaps we should remind Universal not to ignorantly turn their nose up at such material when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 has made as much money as it has.
You know I was listening to the rather excellent Creative Screenwriting Podcast some months back when Jeff Goldsmith used to run it and he had a great discussion with Battleship...

Before the second "Transformers" even hit theaters, director Michael Bay was already saying no to a third installment — or at least one that would hit theaters in 2011. It was back in February 2009, a full three months before the release of "Revenge of the Fallen," that Bay said there was no way he'd helm a third "Transformers" flick (later titled "Dark of the Moon") and get it into multiplexes little more than two years later.
"I would like to take a year off," he told us at the time.
But whaddya know? Bay not only ended up agreeing to whipping together the 3-D flick in time for this year's Independence Day weekend, but Paramount ended up shifting the release to June 29 (June 28, if you count the many 9 p.

The folks over at ABC must be pretty happy about the success of NBC's The Voice despite the long-standing dominance of American Idol when it comes to competitive singing reality shows.
Why? Because on June 21st ABC kicks off Expedition Impossible, which on the surface at least, looks like a cross between CBS' The Amazing Race and Discovery's Out of the Wild. And as any competitive reality fan knows, The Amazing Race is the 900 pound gorilla when it comes to this kind of reality programming. But if there is room for both The Voice and Idol, maybe Expedition Impossible can score in the ratings as well.
An ABC press release describes the show this way:
ABC's exciting new summer series, "Expedition Impossible," announces the show's 13 teams of three who will find themselves racing in a fun expedition across vast deserts, over snow capped mountains and through raging rivers in the beautifully exotic,...

One of our favorite mantras around the AfterElton offices is “because visibility matters.” Indeed, the idea that gay and bisexual men need to be visible, both to ourselves and to the wider culture, is one of the principle reasons AfterElton.com even exists. After all, it is only by being visible to family, friends and the world that we’ve been able to overcome the stereotypes and bigotry used to justify discrimination against the Glbt community.
That quest for visibility explains why we have done so many polls including the AfterElton Hot 100, the Fifty Greatest Gay Movies, the Top 50 Gay TV Characters, and the 50 Best Gay Books. After all, it’s not as if Entertainment Weekly is going to ask gay and bisexual men which guys we think are the hottest, which movies mean the most to us or, in the case of our latest poll, which celebrities we most admire.

Aaron Eckhart, Ne-Yo and Michelle Rodriguez star in 'kick-butt movie.'
By Eric Ditzian

Yes, "Battle: Los Angeles" is filled with nasty alien creatures determined to firebomb Earth into submission, but the new flick is not exactly a sci-fi escapade. It's best thought of, in truth, as a war movie in which the foe just so happens to be extraterrestrial in nature.
"Independence Day" this is not, and star Aaron Eckhart is not a hero of the Will Smith variety. He's haunted from previous tours in war-torn areas and dead-set on retiring from the Marine Corps, before a couple of seemingly harmless asteroids turn out to be apocalypse-minded aliens. For Eckhart and his fellow soldiers, it's time to saddle up and save the world.
As soon as Eckhart signed up for the project, MTV News has been all over its production.

Usually around this time of the year we list maybe 10 or 20 films that we think are as absolute ‘Must See’s’ for what the next 12 months of cinema has to offer us but as the clock is ticking ever closer to midnight on 2010, we thought we would challenge ourselves a little further this time around. The question I posed to the Owf staff recently was… can Cinema in 2011 produce enough ‘Must See’ films to hit 52, which would ratio out to be just one film per week? That’s all we are hopeful for here… just one film every Friday that justifies us parting with our ever increasingly important cash in these tough economic times.
Did we manage to find 52? Kind of.
There’s certainly 52 films listed here but once we got to around 30, the whole thing became a struggle and we had to fill it out disappointingly with the usual array of over-budgeted summer spectacles,...

Yes, it was the year of talkative gay teens and the cat-fighting stars of The A-List: New York. It might not seem like it, but 2010 was the year gay TV grew up. Well, at least part way.
Last year, AfterElton.com asked whether gay TV had matured, and this year that question seems to have been answered. More gay characters than ever graced our screens, and with the rising number of networks making reality shows, sitcoms, and dramas, there was something for everybody from daytime to primetime. In fact, it was so good that the gayest shows on broadcast dominated ratings, and cable series upped their game.
Sure, too many of the new shows with gay characters didn’t survive very long – Mercy, Trauma, and The Whole Truth. But most new shows don’t make it, and at least these characters were something different.

Alien-invasion movie offers 'top-notch visuals to rival those of any big-studio film,' one critic chimes.

An alien-invasion flick likely will top the box office this weekend ... but, no, it's not called "Skyline." Rather, it seems that "Megamind," the animated tale of a big-brained baddie with a secretly soft heart, is going to reign supreme for the second week in a row.
"Skyline," meanwhile, will compete for ticket buyers' bucks with Denzel Washington's runaway-train action movie, "Unstoppable," which also opens this weekend. "Skyline" leapt out of Comic-Con with a surprising buzz — a film no one had really heard about that, after the convention, was firmly on the fanboy radar. Universal has since taken a gamble and declined to screen the movie for the media, choosing to let the fans themselves decide if the flick is a worthy addition to the alien-invasion genre.

Don't expect to find out before the flick hits theaters this Friday, as it hasn't been screened for the media, and stars have been impressively tight-lipped about plot details. But know this: Things do not end well for the citizens of L.A.

Ohmigod you guys! I have something awesome to tell you that I’ve been waiting days to share …
Guess what? Over the weekend, my husband, Mark, ran into official Team Creampuff member Zac on the street!
Zac
This is amazing news for a few reasons. For one thing, it indicates that contestants on this show are in fact actual, living people, and not some fiendish CGI creations cooked up in Bravo’s underground laboratory like the Na’vi.
The other amazing thing is that when Mark told Zac how much we were enjoying watching the show, he was sincerely appreciative and came across as an all-around nice guy. I know! Someone on a reality show who isn’t a total asshat!
Knowing this about Zac really helped me get through this week’s episode, during which Team Go Diva unfortunately comes across as more insufferable than ever.

It’s a spinoff of a spinoff! NCIS: Los Angeles, the spinoff of the ever-popular NCIS, which is in itself a spinoff of the long-running Jag, hit DVD at the end of August. If you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, we have the breakdown for you here!
The Show
I’m sort of a probie to the Jag/NCIS universe. I only watched Jag when Steven Culp was making appearances as CIA agent Clayton Webb, and while I’ve seen my fair share of NCIS thanks to a crush on Mark Harmon, I’m not a truly regular viewer. To Full Frontal Or To Not Full Frontal
When I saw the first headline trumpeting news about Justin Long's inadvertent full frontal nude scene in his upcoming movie Going the Distance, I knew how the story would end before I even started it: namely, that particular scene would not end up in the movie. Americans as a whole are still supposedly way too squeamish to actually be confronted with a guy's junk onscreen, especially in a romantic comedy like Going the Distance.
Justin Long
Which doesn't make sense given that Nanette Burstein, Gtd's director, was supposedly so taken with Christina Applegate's shocked reaction to Justin's junk that she filmed the scene that way ten more times before eventually deciding not to use it. Or someone decided she shouldn't use it. Btw, imagine if this were a gay director who did that. Tongues would be wagging even though...

Pardon Me, But Have You Seen Any Gay Characters? How About You? You? Anyone?
I don't know who first dubbed the Television Critics Association Summer Tour the "Bataan Death March, but with cocktails" but it's a pretty apt description. Yep, it's that time of year as next week I fly off to Los Angeles to try and pry gay/bi secrets out of the actors, writers and so forth who bring us much of the TV we watch.
First I put on something sexy, then I get them a little drunk, then I turn the music low. You know, your usual good investigative journalism tactics.
With that in mind, this week's column is again going to be a rather stream of consciousness as I'm not only getting ready to leave, but am also getting ready for our big relaunch next week. Talk about a full plate!

I am currently watching Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, which has more story than this weekend’s top two grossers combined, but that’s beside the point. The estimates for Independence Day Weekend (which I remind you may change), have The Twilight Saga: Eclipse earning $69 million over the weekend, totaling $161 million in its first five days. It opened with $68 million on Wednesday, the highest opening Wednesday total of all time.
The Last Airbender placed in a distant second, earning M. Night Shyamalan an undeserved $40 million, with a $57 million total (the film was release on Thursday).
Toy Story 3 took another $30 million in its third week for third place on the weekend. It has now brought Pixar an impressive $289 million.
Farther down the list, Cyrus faired well with a slightly wider release, finishing tenth, with only 77 theaters. It earned $770,000 in its third weekend.

Finally some updates about a new, Stephen Norrington’s version of The Crow!
Brandon Lee In The Crow
This time, it’s kind of official announcement, because it comes from producer Edward Pressman who said that Norrington has finished the script for the film and they are moving forward with casting.
Check out the rest of the details of the movie based on James O’Barr’s graphic novel and comics about “a dead rocker whose spirit returns to seek vengeance on the men who killed him and raped his girlfriend.”
So, producer Edward Pressman shared that Norrington has finished the script, he thinks that it’s “terrific,” and that they hope to begin filming the movie some time later this year. Pressman added that they do have an offer out to a “major actor” and that Norrington’s vision is much different than that of Alex Proyas (starring Brandon Lee), who handled the 1994 film.
