Stephen Amell starred as Oliver Queen a.k.a Green Arrow in the CW series Arrow. The show spawned the Arrowverse, including shows such as The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and more. It went on for eight seasons, ending in 2019. The show crossed over with other shows in the Arrowverse and saw many prominent DC characters make an appearance.
While the show included popular characters such as Deathstroke, Black Canary, and the Monitor, the makers revealed that they never intended to introduce some of these characters so early into the show. Characters such as Deathstroke and Arsenal a.k.a Roy Harper appeared in season 1 of the show despite being planned for much later.

Executive producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg have reunited for a third historical mini-series, this time taking to the skies with Apple TV+’s “Masters of the Air.” The series follows the members of the 100th Bomb Group, a Boeing B-17 heavy bomber unit that operated in the Air Force during WWII. This isn’t Hanks and Spielberg’s first war-time series, however. They previously executive produced “The Pacific,” which charted the US Marine Corps’ actions in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Before that, they created “Band of Brothers,” which dramatized the story of the Easy Company of the US Army, who went on a mission in Europe during WWII.
“Masters of the Air” looks to be a major Emmys player this year, particularly as it stars popular actors Callum Turner, Austin Butler, and Barry Keoghan. However, before we look ahead at that series’ Emmy potential, lets look back at...

The 1990s were full of top-notch science fiction films that won over critics and set the box office on fire -- after all, we're talking about a decade that produced "Independence Day" (which beat "Mars Attacks!" to theaters), "The Matrix" (albeit with some complex behind-the-scenes activity), "The Fifth Element" (ripping off Plato to great effect) and the list goes on and on. But not every sci-fi release can be a winner, and the decade also had its fair share of stinkers. Whether they were derivative of other (better) films, hacked to pieces as a result of studio interference, or let down by the limitations of 1990s technology, there are endless reasons why an ambitious science-fiction project might crash and burn.
However, many of these ambitious but panned sci-fi movies are often not without their redeeming factors, and despite their negative reception -- especially on Rotten Tomatoes -- you can often...

While annual attendees warning newcomers to strap in for a long night ahead is a tradition at the Directors Guild of America Awards, the 2024 show seemed to move pretty steadily without a hitch.
Taking place on Saturday, February 11 at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, the golden medallions mostly went to expected winners like Theatrical Feature Film going to “Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan, Michael Apted First-Time Theatrical Feature Film going to “Past Lives” director Celine Song, and Comedy Series going to “The Bear” showrunner/director Christopher Storer for the cameo-packed Season 2 episode “The Fishes.”
However, before those awards were given out, director Lesli Linka Glatter used her President’s Welcome to address an elephant in the room. “This year, members need that connection over our shared craft even more now. Veteran director David Nutter was feted with the lifetime achievement award for television direction at the Directors Guild of America Awards. Over his long career, Nutter has directed 24 pilots, 21 of which made it to series orders, and some 1,500 hours of TV, from ‘Game of Thrones’ to ‘ER’ to the ‘The X-Files’, reports Variety.
In recent years he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Nutter gave an emotional speech that demonstrated his resilience as he deals with the symptoms of the progressive disease that attacks the central nervous system.
“I’m a better director for it,” Nutter said of working with Parkinson’s. “I’m more attached to the emotional heartbeat of an actor.”
Auteur Christopher Nolan took home the top prize at the Directors Guild of America Awards, earning his first DGA Award for the historical epic ‘Oppenheimer’.

“Oppenheimer” director Christopher Nolan, Christopher Storer of FX’s “The Bear” and Peter Hoar of HBO’s “The Last of Us” were the top winners Saturday night at the Directors Guild of America’s 76th annual DGA Awards.
The DGA win seals Nolan’s frontrunner position to land the director Oscar at the March 10 Academy Awards. Celine Song took home the DGA medallion for first-time director for her much-praised A24 drama “Past Lives.” “Guys, this is so amazing,” Song told the crowd.
Judd Apatow hosted the three-hour ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The multi-hyphenate opened his monologue with a zinger rooted in the DGA’s image as being friendly with the studio CEOs and its history of never mounting a significant strike against Hollywood’s major studios. Apatow joked that his agents told him to hold out for more money for his fifth time as host of the DGA ceremony.

It's been 22 years since "Band of Brothers" captivated television audiences with its gripping 10-episode tale of a United States paratrooper company's daring, civilization-saving exploits in the European Theater of World War II. And according to its placement on Netflix's top charts, it is as relevant and watchable as ever.
Whether the streamer's subscribers are revisiting the classic miniseries or discovering it for the first time, it's encouraging to know that people are still moved by the heroism of the young soldiers who put their lives on the line to turn back Adolf Hitler's genocidal grab for world domination -- especially as we watch the American Republican party and the country's law enforcement get overrun by the types of white supremacists who contributed to the rise of the Third Reich. When “The X-Files” premiered on Sept. 3, 1993 on Fox, viewers had no idea how incredibly bizarre the cases tackled by FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) would be.
Anything that was deemed paranormal, supernatural or unexplainable was called an “X-File” — the cases that no one else in the agency wanted to touch.
In the show’s 11 seasons, they dealt with more than just aliens and shadowy government conspiracies. Their cases involved demons, ghosts, serial killers, sea monsters and even vampires. In celebration of the series’ 30th anniversary, here are the episodes with the scariest villains and killer creatures.

For many a movie, as Quentin Tarantino went, so went Harvey Weinstein: “Pulp Fiction” shot both its writer/director and Weinstein’s independent shingle Miramax into the Hollywood stratosphere and forged a partnership that would span eight of Tarantino’s 10 feature films.
But for all those years of working closely with Weinstein, Tarantino said – as dozens before him have – that he had no idea the producer was a serial criminal rapist.
“I’d never heard the stories that later came out at all,” Tarantino told Chris Wallace on his HBO Max show “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace.” “I heard the same stories that everybody had heard. You know, frankly, to tell you the truth, I, I, I chalked it up to a ‘Mad Men’-era version of the boss chasing the secretary around the desk. I’m not saying that’s Ok.”

Producer-director David Nutter testified at the Harvey Weinstein trial, called by the prosecution to corroborate details of an accuser’s story.
Nutter, best known as Emmy-winning executive producer and director of ‘Game of Thrones’, came up earlier this week in the trial when a woman accusing Weinstein of rape told the jury that she confided in Nutter after she was allegedly assaulted by Weinstein, reports Variety.
She said that Nutter was the first person she told about the incident in question.
Nutter was working with the model and actor – who is known in the case as Natassia M. – on a commercial in 2007 or 2008. During his testimony, Nutter said that Natassia M. is now a friend and someone he has mentored in the industry. He had hired her on a few shows throughout the years, including “Dark Angel.”
In Oct. 2009, Natassia M. called Nutter to disclose her encounter with Weinstein in London.
Nutter, best known as an Emmy-winning executive producer and director on “Game of Thrones,” came up earlier this week in the trial when a woman accusing Weinstein of rape told the jury that she confided in Nutter after she was allegedly assaulted by Weinstein. She said Nutter was the first person she told about the incident in question.

David Nutter, who has directed key episodes – many of them successful pilots – of a stunning number of popular TV shows from “The X Files” to the infamous “Game of Thrones” Red Wedding shocker, took the stand Thursday in the rape trial of Harvey Weinstein to support the testimony of a Jane Doe witness and friend, fulfilling an oath he made to her years ago.
Nutter followed the testimony of “Nm,” a model and actress from Norway who testified Wednesday that she had met Weinstein only a few times before when one night, after the 2008 BAFTAs in London, she awoke to the Miramax mogul banging on her hotel room door. She said he was disheveled and agitated as he shoved his way in, pushed her down on the bed and raped her – then assaulted her again upon subsequent meetings.

“The X-Files” was TV’s flagship horror/sci-fi series of the 1990s, and was conceived in part by creator Chris Carter as a way to “scare people’s pants off.” And what’s scarier than a real-life villain like Jeffrey Dahmer?
Two years before the show premiered on Fox in 1993, the serial killer (who’s currently played by Evan Peters in Netflix’s “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”) was arrested and his sickening story struck a nerve with people throughout the world. During the second season of “The X-Files,” Carter penned an episode titled “Irresistible” that was a first for the series: it featured no paranormal elements but instead focused on a killer and necrophiliac named Donnie Pfaster (Nick Chinlund) that was loosely based on Dahmer himself. Watch a frightening clip above.

The Emmy landscape has changed drastically in the past two decades. Going in to the 54th Emmy Awards, which took place on Sept. 22, 2002, it was a broadcast network — NBC — that led the nominations with 47. Emmy powerhouse HBO came in second with 38. FX and VH1 earned their first nominations while the first major streaming series, Netflix’s “House of Cards,” was still 11 years away. Several of this year’s contenders for Emmy gold were either nominated or won 20 years ago.
Laura Linney, who has been nominated nine times and won four statuettes, is nominated this year for her lead role in the final season of Netflix’s “Ozark” and as co-executive producer of this drama series contender. Two decades ago, she won her first Emmy for her lead role in the Showtime telefilm “Wild Iris.”

The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pledge, while noting that the “responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives,” acknowledges that “America’s storytellers” have the power to “effect change.”
“Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety,” the Brady pledge states, and goes on to ask writers, directors and producers to, whenever possible, to:

HBO delivers a new incarnation of “The Time Traveler’s Wife” on Sunday night, a theme for a show which delivered a specific set of production challenges that took some clever planning to traverse.
In the latest version of the story, based on the 2003 book by Audrey Niffenegger, Theo James (“Divergent”) plays time traveler Henry, and “Game of Thrones” alum Rose Leslie stars as his wife, Claire.
Henry jumps through time multiple times in every episode — and with different aged Henrys crossing paths with different aged Claires, as well as her housemates Gomez (Desmin Borges) and Charisse (Natasha Lopez), who become their best friends, it made for an unusual filming experience and one that took some getting used to for the actors.

I had the chance to view the series ahead of its launch. The HBO version allows Niffenegger’s material to breathe better throughout six episodes, which works for the most part.
The novel and its romantic story about marriage and time travel have captured audiences for almost 20 years. In 2009, a film adaptation starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams.
The Time Traveler’s Wife follows Henry DeTamble (Theo James), who suffers from a genetic anomaly that makes him travel to different points in time.

When it comes to “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” what’s old is new. Quite literally.
Audrey Niffenegger’s novel, published in 2003, captured the imagination of a vast readership with its story of a marriage unmoored by a husband’s tendency to skip through time. The widespread swooning made a film adaptation, released in 2009 and starring Eric Bana as time traveler and Rachel McAdams as wife, a foregone conclusion. Now, the franchise reappears in our timeline, with Theo James and Rose Leslie taking on the lead roles in an HBO drama series that keeps Niffenegger’s complicated conceit intact.

This is what lends his romance with Clare its sense of destiny, as, in adulthood,...

Even before Audrey Niffenegger’s novel “The Time Traveler’s Wife” hit shelves in the autumn of 2003, it was destined for the big screen: Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema picked up the book’s film and television rights before the eventual bestseller and award winner was published. A film adaptation of the romance, starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana, was released in 2009 (making over 100 million at the worldwide box office in the process).
More than a decade later, the supernatural drama is returning, this time in the form of an HBO series starring Rose Leslie and Theo James in the roles originated by McAdams and Bana 13 years ago. Neither of the original stars is involved in this iteration. The series’ first season will feature six episodes, created by TV regular Steven Moffat (“Doctor Who”) and directed by “Game of Thrones” Emmy winner David Nutter.
