The more versatile an actor is, the more in demand they are. One of the major skills that an actor needs to grab more projects is the ability to change accents at will. This becomes even more essential when you are in the animation industry, where the way you speak can severely impact the quality of the entire production.

Despite a union with SAG-AFTRA and increasing attention paid to the very best voice acting performances in the industry, it’s still easy to take those performances for granted. It’s part and parcel of a medium that still struggles with being recognized as an art form, and one where those union protections don’t yet protect the most vulnerable performers.
Voice acting is often the key to whether a story-heavy game sinks or swims. Granted, it is possible for a game’s voice acting to become iconic, even with a crappy dub. The original Resident Evil is still a meme for B-movie lines like the Jill Sandwich, and Shenmue’s English voice acting, respectfully, flat-out sucks. But a truly remarkable job, like the whole of Final Fantasy Xii or Nolan North’s various appearances as Nathan Drake, reminds us why it’s important to remember our roots, appreciate the creators,...

For a while, Zack Snyder was building a cinematic universe for the Netflix streaming service that centered on his zombie movie Army of the Dead. The film was quickly followed by a prequel called Army of Thieves, a sequel was being written, and an anime series called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas was in the works. But Snyder has since shifted his focus over to building a multi-media universe around his upcoming Netflix sci-fi film Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (and its follow-up Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver). So Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas sits unfinished… and during an interview with Total Film magazine, Snyder revealed that Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon aren’t entirely separate. In fact, if Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas ever gets completed, we’ll be seeing a Rebel Moon crossover on the show!

This post contains spoilers for "The Last Of Us" episode eight as well as the video game source material.
When I think of the game version of "The Last Of Us," I tend to immediately think of two things: first, the story's stellar, still-talked-about ending, which elevates it from a great game to a genre-transcending masterpiece. Second, it's the most harrowing, edge-of-your-seat moment, which comes in one of its final chapters.
It's the scene in which Ellie, alone but far from powerless without Joel, faces off against a violent cannibalistic creep named David. The face-off between the two at an abandoned winter resort is one of the hardest, scariest, and most intense parts of the game, the kind of gameplay that inspires held breaths and surprised shrieks. Though the TV show speeds Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and David's (Scott Shepherd) showdown up a bit, it still delivers on the horror and...

This Last of Us review contains spoilers.
The Last of Us Episode 8
It’s difficult to assess the value of The Last of Us in a vacuum, divorcing it from its immaculate source material. That’s because the show follows the major story beats of the game so closely that you can’t help but think of the PlayStation classic while watching if you’ve played it before.
In the case of “When We Are In Need,” the show’s version of this storyline doesn’t have quite as much dramatic impact as the same chapter from the game. As an episode of television, all of the scenes and performances work, but the religious overtones revolving around the antagonist, David (Scott Shepherd), feel needless, and the pacing of the episode doesn’t serve the story well, either.
The episode’s success really hinges on David’s portrayal, and unfortunately his...

"Transformers: EarthSpark" is a Paramount+ original animated series that follows the eponymous robots in disguise as they work together, Autobots and (some) Decepticons alike, on a post-war Earth to protect and educate a new breed of Transformer: the Terrans. These new robots are unlike the rest in that they were born on Earth. For the Terrans, it's the only home they've ever known, and Cybertron is a distant myth. Also, there are a bunch of humans tagging along because the audience demands a surrogate. The whole thing is very "Steven Universe."
Starring everyone from Zeno Robinson and Danny Puddi to Nolan North and Clancy Brown, "Transformers: EarthSpark" is up to its antennae in famous names. One of them in particular -- Alan Tudyk, who voices Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots -- comes with something of a funny story. Thing is, fans of Tudyk will know that he's typically cast as comedic characters.

HBO's "The Last of Us" is an adaptation of a video game, so easter eggs were practically inevitable. Whether adapting a video game, a comic book, or some other form of media, movies and television shows can't help but throw in references for those who are fans of the source material. One that comes to mind is Sony's adaptation of "Uncharted," which gave Nolan North, the voice and motion capture actor for Nathan Drake in the games, a small cameo for fans to point out and enjoy.
While "The Last of Us" adaptation has done something similar in casting Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson in new roles, other easter eggs might prove a bit more complicated, given the somber and intense themes of "The Last of Us." Throwing in a wink and nod easter egg for those who played the video game would feel out of place in a series this intimate and character-driven.

Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons marks a couple of firsts, although they’ve had several print team-ups and their own comic, it’s the first on-screen pairing of the sons of DC’s biggest superheroes. It’s also the first of DC’s animated films to be completely done by computer, using the same styling as Marvel’s “What If” series.
It opens with a pre-credits recap of how Superman came to Earth, only with one small addition, which may seem puzzling, but will be explained later in the film. That’s followed by what is basically another origin story, that of Superboy, aka Jonathan Kent the son of Superman, and Lois Lane.

Video game movies are tricky business. There frankly aren’t many good ones, which can probably be attributed to the fact that the medium is so difficult to adapt. Is it better to cater to a game’s established fan base, or try to attract a more mainstream audience? Do you retell the original story or abandon it completely? Most game adaptations simply don’t have the right answers to these questions.
Ruben Fleischer’s Uncharted, however, is one of the rare video game movies to actually make a successful transition from small screen to big screen. Now available to stream on Netflix, the movie captures the feeling of the games while forging its own path that could potentially lead to a sequel or two. With that in mind, here are a few lessons future video game movies can learn from Uncharted.

“Uncharted” fans were more than a little delighted when the original Nathan Drake showed up on screen toward the end of the film. And yes, Nolan North loved it just as much, but it was definitely a long road to making it happen.
Based on the PlayStation video games from Naughty Dog, “Uncharted” has been in development for years, going through a handful of possible stars, and more than a few directors. But North was in touch with most of them.
“I had met with a couple of the past directors over time, and everybody always wanted to kind of have have me in there somewhere,” North told TheWrap. Both he and the directors were fully aware how much the fans wanted to see him.
