This Dune article contains spoilers.
If the shocking ending of Dune: Part Two left you wanting more, you can actually watch Dune: Part Three right now. Kind of. Although Denis Villeneuve hasn’t fully committed to a movie adaptation of Dune Messiah, there is an often overlooked filmed version of this Dune sequel out there right now. This isn’t a bootleg or a fan film either, but The Sci-Fi Channel’s excellent Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune miniseries. This very real adaptation of Dune Messiah even stars several major Hollywood stars, including James McAvoy and Susan Sarandon, as well as Star Trek legend Alice “The Borg Queen” Krige.
If you’ve slept on this particular Dune sequel, now is possibly the best time to watch it. Here’s what to know about Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune, why it’s great, and how to watch it.

Fittingly for a series in which everybody seems to be engaging in some form of Classic Hollywood cosplay, the Rosebud moment in BritBox’s Archie is delivered by an actor playing comedy icon Danny Kaye.
Affecting a stereotypical German therapist accent — accents on top of accents on top of accents is the Archie way — Kaye cautions young Dyan Cannon (Laura Aikman) that her relationship with the more seasoned Cary Grant (Jason Isaacs) is destined for complications with the warning, “Men who have difficult relationships with their mothers always carry it over to the women that they love.”
There’s no reason for Kaye to make such an observation if he hasn’t been watching the two previous hours of Jeff Pope’s four-episode production. But for the series’ actual audience, his analysis will come across as both obvious and superficial — a bit like Archie itself.
Ultimately, it’s a bit more complicated than that.

Ridley Scott’s Napoleon opens in 1793 as a revolutionary rage courses throughout France. The camera tracks a ragged yet prideful Marie Antoinette (Catherine Walker) making her way toward her executioners as commoners hurl insults and tomatoes at her. This sequence kicks off the film with a propulsive energy that instantly keys us to the rowdy spirit of the times. Unfortunately, as soon as the guillotine drops, Napoleon shifts into traditional historical biopic mode, dutifully touching on major events like the Reign of Terror and the royalist insurrection, but only in the most compulsory, disinterested manner.
This Wikipedia rundown of sorts may just be a way to get Napoleon Bonaparte (Joaquin Phoenix) front and center a little earlier, but it’s a recurring problem in Scott’s film. The apparently ageless Ridley Scott is back with another historical epic. On Monday, Apple and Sony debuted the first trailer for Scott’s “Napoleon,” the 85-year-old filmmaker’s latest widescreen blockbuster.
The film reunites Scott with his “Gladiator” star Joaquin Phoenix for the first time since that Oscar-winning hit. “Joaquin is about as far from conventional as you can get. Not deliberately, but out of intuition,” Scott previously told Empire about his star. “That’s what makes him tick. If something bothers him, he’ll let you know.”
In that same interview, Scott said Phoenix basically rewrote the script to better align it with his take on the character. “We unpicked the film to help him focus on who Bonaparte was. I had to respect that, because what was being said was incredibly constructive. It made it all grow bigger and better,” Scott said.
The last time the two men worked together,...

Movies about the infamous French military commander Napoleon Bonaparte have always been massive undertakings. After all, the wars and battles he unleashed were some of the biggest and deadliest in European military history. You can't exactly be frugal when adapting these battles to the big screen, and since they're such a significant part of Bonaparte's legacy, you shouldn't even think of skipping them. This is partially why Stanley Kubrick's biopic of the commander wound up in development hell and never found its way out during his lifetime.
However, it seems Ridley Scott has finally done what was previously thought to be nearly impossible: He has directed a biographical action epic based on Bonaparte's life, simply titled "Napoleon," and it is coming out later this year. Starring Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix as the commander, it marks the actor's first collaboration with Scott since their acclaimed team-up on 2000's "Gladiator." While...

It was 2004 and Martin Clunes was ready for a change. As the star of riotous Nineties sitcom Men Behaving Badly, he was still widely regarded as the face of floppy-fringed, shirt-hanging-out lad culture. But Clunes was eager to show a different side: to prove he could do serious as well as frothy. At which point Dr Martin Ellingham, an emotionally repressed small-town Gp with a tight smile and a big heart, walked into his life. Doc Martin had entered the building.
“It was a leap,” Clunes would reflect of the character he has portrayed for the past 18 years and to whom he says farewell with a Christmas special on ITV tonight (the series proper having wrapped in October). “I need something to act, someone to act, or something to pin someone on, rather than just open a script and a nice guy says some kind of nice things.”

It’s the most wonderful tiiiiime of the yeeeeear! Wherever you fall on a festive scale of Scrooge to Elf, it’s certainly the best time of year for good telly: Christmas TV is every channel and streaming service’s time to shine, as they adorn their listings with sparkly specials and festive films. 2022 is no different, with everything from Christmas comedy offerings from Inside No. 9, to Ghosts and Detectorists, a new animated family film from the team behind The Gruffalo, and brand-new soppy festive rom-coms.
There’s also a growing selection box of Christmas dramas – including the last ever episode of Doc Martin – which is just as well considering this will be the first holiday season without a special Doctor Who episode since the show relaunched back in 2005.

Blackpool, Lee Evans, Jerry Lewis and Oliver Platt converge in Funny Bones. Here's why it's a film worth seeking out.
"Why do all the best things in life belong to the past?"
It seems a strange thing to be obsessed about, it wasn't a franchise, and didn't come with much buzz, but when Peter Chelsom's Funny Bones was released in 1995 I instantly latched on to it. It didn't even receive a general release in the cinemas around my area. It was released during that period when you had to check the local newspaper adverts to discover the cinema times. Disappointingly it didn't appear, not until a few weeks later when it had just one showing, on a Thursday night. I'd been talking about the film for ages to my brother, who was now at university, and once I found that it was screening I practically begged...

How each Doctor responds to the Daleks for the first time reveals something about them...
Pearl Mackie was announced as the new companion for Doctor Who Series 10 back in April, with a specially filmed clip broadcast during Match Of The Day's Fa Cup semi-final. Aside from befuddling Gary Lineker, the purpose of a trailer like this, as opposed to a press release or a lavish announcement programme, is to show a character in action, and there was really no better way to define the character of Bill Potts than to show how she acted in the face of the Daleks.

The medical comedy drama - which sees Martin Clunes starring in the title role - has been given the go-ahead for series eight following the success of last year's ratings. Ian McNeice, who plays larger-than-life Bert Large in the show, has confirmed fans will be able to see the adventures of the highly-strung doctor early next year. Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: ''We were invited by ITV to a dinner to thank us for the ratings we had in October and November. They were the best we have had...

Companions new and old combine as Strax makes the transition to the world of Big Finish's Doctor Who audio adventures…
While rumours of a Paternoster Gang Doctor Who spin-off have been floating around for ages, no one could have predicted this – an audio production that teams up Dan Starkey’s Strax with Tom Baker-era companions Jago and Litefoot, played by Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter (they first appeared in Tom Baker’s The Talons Of Weng-Chiang in 1977).
While classic companions are normally fair game to Big Finish (indeed, there's already 9 series worth of Jago and Litefoot material), Strax’s inclusion here makes him the latest in a very-recently-established trend that has seen the Torchwood cast, the main show's Unit characters, Alex Kingston’s River Song, and Ian McNiece’s Winston Churchill all swap the televisual realm for Big Finish audio adventures, all in the space of the last year.

Alex Kingston’s River Song will join Paul McGann’s 8th Doctor for a new audio adventure with Big Finish. Also, Churchill is back...
Exciting news here – the rumoured return for River Song to Doctor Who has been confirmed, but not in the way you might expect. Alex Kingston’s character won’t be teaming up with Peter Capaldi on TV, but instead joining Paul McGann in the audio world of Big Finish.
River will join the eighth Doctor, as well as his companions Liv (Nicola Walker) and Helen (Hattie Morahan) for Doctor Who: Doom Coalition 2. Seeing as this Doctor hasn’t met River yet (David Tennant’s version, in Silence In The Library, was the first to meet her), River will have to help him without revealing too much about herself.
“The idea of River meeting previous Doctors was actually proposed by Steven Moffat,” producer David Richardson said.

River Song (Alex Kingston) will cross paths with the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) in a new series of Doctor Who audio plays.
Kingston will reprise her role as the time-travelling archaeologist in Doctor Who: Doom Coalition 2 from Big Finish Productions.
Best known for their audio plays based on the classic Doctor Who series, Big Finish have recently begun branching out into new series material with the upcoming box-set Unit: Extinction starring Jemma Redgrave (Kate Stewart) and Ingrid Oliver (Osgood).
Doom Coalition 2 will be released in March 2016 - with Kingston joined by McGann, plus Nicola Walker and Hattie Morahan as the Doctor's companions Liv Chenka and Helen Sinclair.
River will then return later in 2016 with her own spinoff series - Doctor Who: The Diary of River Song, a four-hour adventure which will again feature McGann in its final instalment.
Further 2016 efforts from Big Finish based on the new series...

Winston Churchill, Harriet Jones, Harold Saxon... As we all head to the voting booths, how have UK prime ministers fared in Doctor Who?
Incarnations of the Doctor are a bit like British prime ministers. They usually last four to five years in real time and, despite having different faces, a cynic could say that they're all pretty much the same beneath the surface. But that's the stuff of Media Studies dissertations, in fact, Doctor Who has a far dimmer view of the UK executive in the show itself.
Over the course of fifty-odd years, the office of prime minister has been both the target and agent of satire and parody in a show that deals with an onslaught of alien activity on British soil in the past, present and future.
As we're all going to the polls today to pick who we want in Downing Street, here's our look back...

Doc Martin has been recommissioned for a seventh series by ITV.
Martin Clunes will return as the grumpy Dr Martin Ellingham in eight more episodes of the comedy drama set in Cornwall.
Filming has begun in Port Isaac, with Caroline Catz, Dame Eileen Atkins, Ian McNeice, Joe Absolom, Jessica Ransom and John Marquez all making a return.
The series is expected to debut in the autumn on ITV.
Series six saw Martin and Louisa (Catz) finally get married, but a life-threatening incident saw Louisa taking their son James Henry to live with her mother in Spain while they worked out their issues.
Martin Clunes said: "I'm thrilled to be back on the beautiful North Cornish coast to shoot series seven of Doc Martin. The Doc has some serious work to do if he is going to persuade Louisa to come back."
"We're delighted Doc Martin is returning to ITV," said ITV's Steve November.

“Time can be rewritten” is a fateful line that’s often referred to within the Doctor Who mythology – it’s either that or “This is a fixed point in time and cannot be rewritten”. Blah blah blah. So what happens, then, when the writers decide to change the rules and incorporate the Doctor and his companions into the history books of planet Earth?
Sometimes it works and engages the viewers, such as in Vincent and the Doctor, and it has sometimes been used to mock a historical figure, à la Let’s Kill Hitler (in which he was banished to the cupboard where he belongs!). More often than not the historical figure is used to help the Doctor in some way, but sometimes they’re just thrown in for the sheer hell of it. Because why not?
As such, over the years fans have seen amazing portrayals (Ian McNeice as Winston Churchill,...

Line of Duty season two
Golden Globe winner Ian McShane is well known to TV fans on both sides of the ocean. He’s successfully created a niche for himself as a fiendish villain in shows such as Pillars of the Earth, Deadwood, and let’s not forget his memorable performance as Judas in Jesus of Nazareth. However, for anyone in England over the age of 35, the first thing that comes to mind when you say “Ian McShane,” is Lovejoy. The popular BBC series debuted in 1986 and was arguably the first real dramedy on British TV. Despite initial ratings success, it along with other shoes — including Doctor Who — was put on hiatus and fans had to wait five years for the second season of the show. On 2 September, Lovejoy season two comes to the U.S. on DVD, while seasons one and two are available on Acorn TV.

Every once in a while, a television drama comes along that perfectly encapsulates the mood of the time in which it was made. In the 1980s - a decade best remembered in the United Kingdom for Thatcherism and the omnipresent threat of nuclear war - that drama was Edge of Darkness.
With its 30th anniversary fast approaching, Troy Kennedy Martin's eco-thriller is being afforded a welcome repeat showing on BBC Four - starting tonight (June 30) at 10pm.
Edge of Darkness - a six-part serial - is the story of Ronnie Craven, a Yorkshire police detective who initiates an off-the-books enquiry into his daughter's murder, only to discover that her death has broader political implications.
Soon, Craven is drawn into a world of corrupt politics and eco-terrorism, culminating in an ill-fated excursion into a radioactive waste facility known as 'Northmoor' - the hub of a power-hungry plot by malevolent forces.

Doc Martin Season 6
The bride looks beautiful in her flowing white gown. The groom looks . . . prepared. What could possibly go wrong? Well a lot actually, after all we are talking about the long awaited wedding involving Martin and Louisa at the start of Doc Martin series six. The newly married duo go from being bombarded with confetti to being splattered in mud and feathers. Oh and did I mention the gun wielding nutcase who tries to hold them hostage? As Doc Martin succinctly put it “it’s not exactly the day you were hoping for.” Enough of the spoilers, you’ll have to watch it yourself if you want to see the rest and you can do just that on 10 December.

Doc Martin Series 1 Joe Absolom Ian McNeicee. Acorn/RLJEntertainment.com
For fans of British TV, Ian McNeice and Joe Absolom are instantly recognizable as the father and son duo Bert and Al Large in the hit dramedy Doc Martin. The duo were recently in Boston for an event organized by American Public Television to publicize the show which is currently airing on Acorn TV. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to speak with Joe and Al about the Doc Martin.
Doc Martin is built around the idea that, Dr Ellingham is a fish out of water as a city slicker trying to adapt to life in the South-West. As actors, can you guys relate to his predicament when you leave London behind and head down to Port Isaac to start production?
Joe “We’ve been filming in Port Isaac for so long that we’ve become part of the tapestry of the town.

Doc Martin Season 6 ITV
B Van Heusen
A wedding to rival the one involving William and Kate is on the agenda as Doc Martin returns to ITV for it’s sixth season on Monday 2 September at 9pm. Dr. Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) proposed to Louisa (Caroline Katz) at the conclusion of the last season. However, things don’t always go to plan in Portwenn and the locals are jittery as they prepare for the big day. To make matters worse, the Doc’s cantankerous Aunt Ruth (Eileen Atkins) has decided to abandon her remote farmhouse and move into a new house in the center of town. Is the town big enough for both Doc Martin and his aunt?
Cast regulars Ian McNeice and Joe Absolom return for the new season as does John Marquez. Annabelle Apsion (Shameless) joins the cast as the new pharmacist while Claire Bloom (The King’s...

The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Collection. Eleven Classic Adventures. Eleven Brilliant Writers. One Incredible Doctor.
It would be a terrible shame were Terrance Dicks not represented in the 50th year of Doctor Who. Dicks is the granddaddy of Doctor Who novels, having scripted over a hundred of the Target novelisations. What is a shame, however, is that he was represented by the novel Players. This book is incredibly similar to Dicks’ co-scripted The War Games, which saw the second Doctor depart from our screens.
This is a novel unlike any of the sixth Doctor’s visual adventures, with little alien or sci-fi features reaching the front of the story apart from the Doctor and companion Peri. The main ‘threat’ behind the story is alien and yet it feels unexplored, meaning this book leaves the reader feeling unsatisfied. The titular ‘Players’ barely get a mention and the Doctor doesn’t even...

This evening, Joe and Colin headed off to London’s Leicester Square for the World premiere of Nativity 2 (Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger). The first movie starred Martin Freeman who has now moved onto a small movie based on The Hobbit with a chap called Peter Jackson but fear not as David Tennant has filled the a-list shoes and he was on the carpet this evening. Our interview with him unveiled some info as to why he took on the role, what it was like playing two characters and acting opposite himself and as much as he tried, Joe was unable to get any info on the Postman Pat movie from him.
David’s interview is below along with fellow cast-members Jessica Hynes (who reveals she won’t be making a cameo in At World’s End which is a real shame), Marc Wootton, Joanna Page, Jason Watkins,...

Many months after David Seidler stood on stage at the Academy Awards clasping the Oscar for Original Screenplay we can experience The King’s Speech as the writer first envisaged, with a sharper political edge and a deeper exploration of the personalities circling the central relationship of the reluctant King and his antipodean, unqualified, speech therapist.
Though the spectres of Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush haunt the first moments of the play, and never truly leave the stage, Adrian Noble’s direction allows the play’s central themes to flourish at a brisk pace, setting the sad and perilous state of the monarchy up against the dark and uncertain future with an exceptional central performance from Charles Edwards whose external timidity and volcanic internal anger are perfectly balanced as he is buffeted between duty and desire. His transformation, the discovery of his voice, is deftly handled with a sympathetic and...
