Last night during Disney's 2024 Upfronts presentation, we finally got release dates for Agatha All Along and Daredevil: Born Again, as well as confirmation that Ironheart will debut on Disney+ sometime in 2025.
New logos for the shows were also unveiled, and while teaser trailers were screened for those in attendance, they have not (and likely won't be) released online.
Different versions of the teasers are sure to be officially released before too long, but for now, we have a breakdown of the footage (via IGN).
The Born Again promo sees Matt Murdock don his familiar red costume, as his voiceover warns someone that the "entire system is against you... it's often David vs. Goliath." We then catch glimpses of Kingpin, Foggy Nelson, and Karen Page, and shots from a brief action sequence.
Right at the end, Murdock is asked, "what kind of a lawyer are you." He responds with, "a really good one,...

Did anybody call for a lawyer?
We can barely contain our excitement about the news that Disney+ is bringing back Daredevil in a bid to reignite the character for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The glimpses of Matt Murdock that we got on Echo and Spiderman: No Way Home were great, but we have missed this tortured, hopeless do-gooder and his heart of gold.
At the risk of sounding like a superfan (guilty), this Marvel nerd has faithfully watched everything that has led up to this moment, hoping for an eventual Daredevil return.
Now that it's actually happening, there's a lot to cover -- let's dive in.
Where Will Daredevil: Born Again Pick Up?
It's been nearly six years since Daredevil Season 3 was released, and it feels like yesterday.

I often lambast the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the "same old, same old" feeling of its movies and television — so I feel a little hypocritical calling the revival series "Daredevil: Born Again" my most anticipated Marvel project.
"Daredevil" ran for three seasons on Netflix from 2015-2018, but was canceled afterward. Like its sister shows, it was a casualty of Marvel and Netflix decoupling from their creative partnership. However, since it was the most consistently acclaimed of the Marvel/Netflix shows and the title character has the biggest built-in audience, "Daredevil" will be born again on Disney+.
As for why I'm excited? "Daredevil" was counterprogramming to the quippy fluff of the MCU movies, with a darker tone and more violence. Plus, what can I say, I'm a fan of the character. If you aren't familiar, Matt Murdock is a blind lawyer blessed with enhanced senses to compensate. At night, he patrols...

“Homicide: Life on the Street” writer and producer David Simon revealed in an X/Twitter post that the series may be heading to streaming services.
“I have been informed by a reliable source that NBC/Universal is at last attempting, along with Fremantle on the overseas rights, to clear music rights on #Homicide for eventual streaming. Lot of work to do achieve that, however, I am also told,” Simon wrote. “Andre alone ought to rate such.”
The news comes days after the death of Andre Braugher, who portrayed Detective Frank Pembleton on the police drama series. Braugher died Dec. 11 of lung cancer at age 61.

In the first episode of the Nineties NBC cop drama Homicide: Life on the Street, Baltimore police detective Frank Pembleton, played by a then-obscure actor named Andre Braugher, reluctantly takes on a young partner, Tim Bayliss (Kyle Secor). Bayliss, new to homicide investigation, is eager to watch Pembleton interrogate a murder suspect, which prompts Frank to explain, “What you will be privileged to witness will not be an interrogation, but an act of salesmanship — as silver-tongued and thieving as ever moved used cars, Florida swampland, or Bibles. The Man Without Fear is set to make his return to the Marvel Universe with Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox will be suiting back up (likely in the new yellow color scheme seen in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law) as Hell’s Kitchen resident Matt Murdock. Cox will be joined by the former Netflix series cast Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher as well as include Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk. There are also actors in undisclosed roles, including Margarita Levieva, Nikki M. James, Michael Gaston, Arty Froushan, and Clark Johnson.
One actor whose role in the upcoming Disney+ show used to be undisclosed is Michael Gandolfini. That is until Marvel lowkey revealed who he will be playing. According to Cbr.com, the pilot episode has been listed at the U.S. Copyright Office, and Gandolfini’s role is listed as Daniel Blade.

When Daredevil: Born Again comes to Disney+, the 18-episode presentation will reportedly be divided into two parts, with multiple story arcs making up the overall adventure. This rumor hails from industry insider Daniel Richtman, who’s keeping tabs on the Marvel production, which is currently on hold due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Richtman says Marvel plans to break the series into multiple story arcs, with two or three episodes dedicated to each segment.
Additionally, Richtman says Daredevil: Born Again strives for a TV-ma rating, adding to the short list of mature content offered on the service as Disney+ prepares to merge with Hulu in the U.S. This tidbit should please fans of the Man Without Fear after many complaints about the character’s lighter tone in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

“Daredevil: Born Again” may be the most anticipated Marvel series heading to Disney+ in Phases 5 and 6. And why’s that? For one, the reboot sees Charlie Cox reprise his role as Matt Murdoch from the original Netflix series. And Vincent D’Onofrio and Jon Bernthal also return as Kingpin and The Punisher, respectively. Add in an 18-episode run, much longer than any other MCU show for Disney+ so far, and that’s a lot of Daredevil content on the way.

“Love & Death” feels familiar, as it should. The Max drama is the second series in less than a year to take on the same story: the case of Candy Montgomery, a Texas housewife who killed her friend and neighbor Betty Gore with an ax in 1980.
This version follows closely on the heels of “Candy,” which aired on Hulu last year. The proximity practically demands comparison, and it’s tempting to draw up a laundry list of differences and call it a review. “Love & Death” casts Elizabeth Olsen as Montgomery, while “Candy” stars Jessica Biel. “Candy” is inflected with horror, while “Love & Death” is more naturalist. “Candy” flashes back from the day of the murder, which saw Montgomery toggle from brutal homicide to eerily banal errands, while “Love & Death” is more linear in structure. The effect is not unlike that of 2019’s competing documentaries about the viral quagmire known as Fyre Festival,...

“Love & Death” is set to premiere Thursday on HBO Max (soon to be just “Max”) and is expected to be a strong Emmys player for the cable and streaming platform in the limited series races. Elizabeth Olsen’s turn as the unfiltered adulterous Candy Montgomery, along with Jesse Plemons’ performance as the dim-witted and simple churchgoing husband of her friend Betty Gore, are expected to be among the top prospects in the acting races, but not where pundits had initially speculated.
Variety has learned exclusively that Plemons will be submitted for supporting actor in a limited series and not the lead actor race category, which was assumed early on. So, unsurprisingly, Olsen will be the sole leading acting submission for the series.

Selma
Filmmaker Ava DuVernay’s 2014 film “Selma” offers a wonderfully complex portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. that chronicles the man’s inspiring impact, but also doesn’t neglect his personal shortcomings. The film covers the events surrounding the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches, with David Oyelowo playing the role of Martin Luther King Jr.

The project comes from 24 executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa and House creator/executive producer David Shore.

It opens in a courtroom on the accused, with viewers knowing nothing about their crime or how they ended up on trial. Told from the defendant’s point of view through flashbacks, Accused depicts how an ordinary person gets caught up in an extraordinary situation, ultimately revealing how one wrong turn leads to another, until it’s too late to turn back.

The late, great actor Michael K. Williams was always honest, and his honesty shone through in his portrayal of one of the most indelible TV characters of all time. As Omar Little, the openly gay gangster who ruled the Baltimore streets for five seasons of David Simon's "The Wire," Williams brought gravitas and emotion to a role that in lesser hands could have been a misfire. Yet the actor took the intriguing depth that was already on the script page and elevated them, turning Omar into a man as complex as the lore that would eventually surround his season 5 demise.
Williams' memoir, "Scenes From My Life," was published posthumously this summer, and in it the actor wrote at length about the role of Omar. From the pressure he felt as a Black man representing his community, to the inspiration he took from relatives and local figures he grew up around,...

Michael K. Williams reflected on his enduring legacy as Omar Little in HBO’s “The Wire” prior to his death in a newly published memoir.
Five-time Emmy nominee Williams died of a drug overdose in September 2021 at age 54. The “Lovecraft Country” and “Boardwalk Empire” actor portrayed gay drug dealer Omar in “The Wire” from 2002 to 2008.
“As for Omar’s homosexuality, it was groundbreaking 20 years ago, and I admit that at first I was scared to play a gay character,” Williams penned in an excerpt from his memoir “Scenes From My Life” co-authored with Jon Sternfeld, via Vulture. “I think my initial fear of Omar’s sexuality came from my upbringing, the community that raised me, and the stubborn stereotypes of gay characters. Once I realized that Omar was non-effeminate, that I didn’t have to talk or walk in a flamboyant way, a lot of that fear drained away. I made Omar my own.

Two years on from Welcome to Chechnya, David France returns with another rip-roaring take on urgent real-world events with How To Survive A Pandemic, an on-the-ground, in-the-rooms account of the first two years of Covid-19 and the race to produce a vaccine; or what France refers to as our “route out.” With dedicated coverage (he began shooting as soon as two weeks into lockdown) and remarkable insider sources, France has constructed a film he hopes will prove definitive of its time in years to come.
It’s as rigorous as it is selective. France sets a clear plan of action: to examine the greatest global, communal, medical achievement ever. And he sticks to it. It’s not on the same level as Chechnya and all that film’s radical effects and gripping, heart-wrenching urgency, but France (who spent years in long-form reporting) has a knack for bringing real propulsion and emotion to his stories.

There's a moment early on in Clark Johnson's politically-tinged drama when Percy Schmeiser (Christopher Walken) is out in the fields with his granddaughter Mary (Zoe Fish) and tells her a story she has heard many times before: about how the seeds they use were smuggled over from the old World in the seams of a dress. It's a story that goes right to the heart of debates over the difference between traditionally guided evolution and direct genetic modification. Although arguments for the latter never really get their due here, what is illustrated very clearly is the futility of trying to keep any form of genetic change entirely under human control.
The story depicted here is a real one, and Walken is a fascinating choice for the central role. The real Percy, who died in 2020, was a quiet man who hated publicity but did it anyway, first because it seemed to.

Over the course of the past century, Monsanto discovered a way to farm the American farmer by developing, patenting and supplying genetically modified seeds. Instead of getting its hands dirty in the fields, the company cultivates its yield directly from the land workers, who have virtually no choice but to buy the agrochemical company’s seeds. For the farmers who do it the old-fashioned way — by collecting seeds from last year’s harvest and planting them the next — they risk not only weaker, bug- and weed-susceptible produce, but also being bullied by Monsanto in court.

Even the most ardent of Samuel L. Jackson fans would struggle to make their way through his entire back catalogue, with the prolific actor having starred in well over 150 movies throughout his career at this point. The 72 year-old simply loves to work and will sign on to almost anything that comes across his desk, which inevitably means that the consistency of his filmography is all over the place.
He’s been in all-time classics like Goodfellas, Jurassic Park and Pulp Fiction, lent support in several of the highest-grossing movies ever made thanks to his recurring role as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s also a regular presence in the realm of bargain basement VOD thrillers. Indeed, Jackson has starred in countless mediocre action films over the last four decades, and one of his more forgotten efforts is proving to be surprisingly popular on Netflix since being added to the library.

Felicity Huffman has been in the news a lot over the last year or so, and not for her acting. There’s no need to get into the scandal she was involved in, since it has no bearing on her work here. However, it never hurts to have a showy performance to refocus audiences on your skills. At times, the drama Tammy’s Always Dying showcases Huffman at her best. At other times, sadly, it’s unfocused and doesn’t make proper use of her talents. It’s an uneven movie that sees the unevenness trickle down to all involved. Some elements work, some don’t. It ultimately creates a mixed bag that’s just shy of recommendation worthy. The film looks at the dramatic relationship between a troubled mother and daughter. For Catherine MacDonald (Anastasia Phillips) and her hard drinking/self destructive mother Tammy MacDonald (Huffman), the same routine...

Tammy, the forlorn protagonist of “Tammy’s Always Dying,” can never quite make it a whole month, her government assistance running dry just one or two days before the next check comes in, and she has a tendency to overspend on booze. Felicity Huffman plays a woman at her wits’ (and life’s) end in her new movie, Tammy’s Always Dying.
The Amy Jo Johnson-directed film stars the Desperate Housewives actress as the self-destructive and alcoholic mother Tammy to Anastasia Phillips’ grown (and fed-up) character, Catherine.
Their dysfunctional relationship only becomes more strained when Tammy is diagnosed with terminal cancer and is told she only has six to ten months left to live. The news forces Catherine to become her mother’s primary caretaker throughout Tammy’s last days.
