In a new interview with Closer Weekly, Alfonso Ribeiro said his iconic role in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air as Carlton Banks was a “sacrifice” for his acting career.
“Playing Carlton on ‘Fresh Prince’ became a sacrifice. I used to always say doing Carlton was the greatest and worst thing that ever happened to me,” Ribeiro said.
“It was one of the greatest roles that I ever was fortunate enough to play. But it was also the role that stopped me from acting again because people couldn’t see me as anything else. The sacrifice was not having an acting career anymore.”
Despite that downer of a sentiment, Ribeiro does have favorite memories from filming.
“It was about the cast and spending time with them. Before every show, we would go into Will Smith’s dressing room, and we’d play music and dance and just have a great...

“Dancing With the Stars” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos” staple Alfonso Ribeiro will host new wildlife series “Jack Hanna’s Passport” from Hearst Media Production Group (Hmpg).
The show will not star wildlife expert “Jungle Jack” Hanna himself, but rather “take a fresh look at the most compelling stories from Hanna’s legendary career and his greatest past adventures across the globe.”
“Jack Hanna’s Passport” will air weekend mornings starting April 6 on ABC owned and affiliated stations across the U.S. during the “Weekend Adventure” educational/informational program block. Times vary by market, so viewers should check local listings.
Nominated for 15 Emmys and winning five, Hanna’s decades-long career in wildlife programming spurred from his background as a conservationist and his position at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio. A frequent TV guest of David Letterman, Hanna’s also authored several books, won many awards, and received multiple honorary doctorates.

“My preoccupation with animals is an open secret,” wrote Betty White in her 2011 book “Betty & Friends: My Life at the Zoo.” The legendary star, who died this week at age 99, was known for more than just her TV and film work. She was a self proclaimed “zoo nut” who spent her life advocating for animal welfare.
White’s parents were animal lovers and she grew up going to zoos regularly. As her profile as an actor and TV personality grew, it became natural for her to use her platform to spotlight that passion.
In 1971, White created and hosted “The Pet Set,” a syndicated series that featured White interviewing celebrity guests including Mary Tyler Moore, Carol Burnett and Doris Day, and their pets and animal trainer Ralph Helfer. She produced the series herself along with her husband, longtime “Password” host Allen Ludden. “The Pet Set” ran for 39 half-hour episodes, and was...

Michael Webber’s documentary “The Conservation Game” has scored a raft of global sales.
The film explores the largely unregulated U.S. trade in exotic animals, especially big cats like lions, tigers, and leopards and their connection to celebrity conservationists. It follows retired police officer and exotic animal expert Tim Harrison and fellow animal rights activists including attorney Carney Anne Nasser — who initiated the wildlife trafficking case against “Tiger King” Joe Exotic — and Carole and Howard Baskin (founders of Big Cat Rescue).
The film tracks Harrison as he stumbles upon a bombshell discovery while undercover at an exotic animal auction and starts an investigation to track down the whereabouts of rare and endangered big cats. As his investigation unfolds, Tim wrestles with the consequences of exposing the tightly held secrets of the exotic pet trade and ultimately confronting his childhood hero, zookeeper Jack Hanna.

Regis Philbin was never formally on the payroll of “The Late Show With David Letterman,” but he might as well have been.
When Letterman retired in May 2015, Philbin, the TV veteran who died on July 24 at 88, emerged as the most frequent visitor to joke and spar with Letterman in the guest chair over the CBS late-night franchise’s 22-season run. He logged 136 appearances, far more than the No. 2 guest, animal handler Jack Hanna, at 75. Philbin also had numerous appearances during Letterman’s NBC days on “Late Night With David Letterman.”
Philbin made a career out of a being a TV host who made the rounds of every other talk show on the air — always with a wry smile and a great story at the ready. But his Letterman visits were always extra special. The two are clearly cut from the same cloth as men who seem born to speak extemporaneously on television.

New Nat Geo Wild series “Zoo Life” will show viewers exactly how that works with a behind-the-scenes tour coming this June — and TheWrap‘s got your first look at how all that will look. “I’ve traveled all over the world and seen the most amazing animals, but nothing compares to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium,” said Hanna. “‘Zoo Life’ has filmed things...

Newt Gingrich is back in the political spotlight after emerging as a finalist in the search for Donald Trump's vice presidential pick. Even if the Georgia lawmaker doesn't make the cut as Trump's running mate, the presumptive Gop nominee has promised Gingrich some sort of role in a Trump administration. "In one form or another, Newt Gingrich will be part of our government," Trump said during a joint appearance with Gingrich in Ohio on Wednesday. Gingrich's growing involvement in Trump's campaign has peaked the interest of media outlets, with CNN exploring "How Newt Gingrich became Donald Trump's inside man...

Michelle Gregg defended herself in a now-deleted Facebook post, writing: "God protected my child until the authorities were able to get to him. My son is safe and was able to walk away with a concussion and a few scrapes... no broken bones or internal injuries." Gregg continued, "As a society we are quick to judge how a parent could take...

Demi Lovato found herself singing her latest Confident single, the powerful ballad "Stone Cold," in an unusual setting recently when The Late Late Show With James Corden moved its production to a randomly selected house in the Los Angeles area. The singer belted the tune, accompanied by a grand piano, in a home belonging to four people named Natalie, Taylor, Melodie and Adam.
Corden had begun the show by going door-to-door, trying to find people who would allow him to shoot his late-night show in their homes. After being denied by a few other locals,...

James Corden celebrated the end of his first year as host of The Late Late Show in a big way—by crashing a fan's house. He and Reggie Watts stumbled upon a fan named Natalie's house and hosted Wednesday's show from inside her living room. But little did she and her roommates know that they would be joined by several A-listers, including Demi Lovato, Colin Farrell and Wanda Sykes. He also brought zookeeper Jack Hanna, who brought along some animal friends. Because any group of people meeting for the first time needs to break the ice, the British host thought playing a game of hide-and-seek would be a good way to warm up the crowd—and that it was. Demi, Natalie, Colin, Reggie and Wanda all hid...

An animal expert he is not. Will Ferrell visited Stephen Colbert on The Late Show's post-Super Bowl episode, sporting the kind of khaki ensemble Jack Hanna might wear. "Did you get a chance to watch the game backstage?" the host asked. Ferrell hadn't, because "there was a three-hour Downton Abbey." Colbert then addressed the elephant in the room. "I'm curious about your outfit tonight, what that's about," he said. Ferrell said he had noticed Colbert's Late Show is "kind of new," and it doesn't have a regularly scheduled animal expert. "So, I thought I could step in and fill the gap." "I thought we were going to talk about Zoolander 2,...

Everyone is wild for parodying Taylor Swift music videos, so naturally Columbus Zoo wants to get in on the action! In honor of Taylor playing Columbus later this week, the zoo has released their own version of her "Wildest Dreams" music video—complete with giraffes, a lion, and a vintage plane. "Taylor Swift, make our Wildest Dreams come true by visiting the Columbus Zoo," says the zoo's Facebook video post, which has already racked up over 92,000 views. "Jungle" Jack Hanna, who has been with the zoo for 37 years, even puts in an appearance at the end. There's no harm in dreaming big when it comes to Taylor, as she has a bit of a reputation for making...

As I begin writing this I'm watching David Letterman, in one of his final appearances as host of "The Late Show," walk out to greet the audience as he's done thousands of times. He's talking about the weather in New York, again, as he's done countless times. After Wednesday, he'll never walk out onto that Ed Sullivan Theater stage and shoot the breeze about the weather again. He'll never again throw it to Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra to kick off the show. The misfits, alas, will have lost their shepherd. Because at his core, that's who Letterman is and has been. He has represented the off-brand sensibilities of an audience allergic to the vanilla stylings of his cool kid contemporaries. He has been the kind of personality who could give us Stupid Pet Tricks and turn throwing a football at a meatball-topped Christmas tree into an annual tradition.

Real comedy still happens on late night, we can prove it. If you like Conan comedy gold, Fallon friendliness, cutesy Corden, list-making Letterman, kneedy Kimmel, and all the rest, I hope you’ll enjoy this column too.
Last night on late night, Martin Short and Cher horsed around with Dave, Anna Wintour put Seth Meyers to work, Conan talked with Nick Swardson and Helen Hunt, Dana Carvey showed up on The Late Late Show, and Kimmel got the Adam Levine treatment.

Late Show continues its streak of amazing shows as Dave officially puts in his “two week notice”. Martin Short, one of Letterman’s best and most frequent quests, tells amazing stories. This one, about having to follow Tony Bennett as a young “boy singer” in 1974, is absolutely hilarious.

These days, Kevin James does most of his work in film – starring in goofy comedies like Zookeeper and the upcoming Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. In the above segment, he reveals his upcoming (fake) return to the small screen with Game of Thrones of Queens, a joke spin-off of the HBO fantasy series.
