- Commanded one of the motor launches [Motor Launch (ML) 156] in Operation Chariot, a British commando raid on the French port of St Nazaire on March 28, 1942. The operation was successful, at a high cost with a large percentage of men involved killed, wounded or taken prisoner. Fenton was badly wounded but eventually recuperated at a hospital in Devon, England, before being honorably discharged.
