Movies which centre their stories on competitive sports will always find an eager audience at the cinema. They are often filled with drama, heart-stopping action, and perfectly capture the ever swinging emotional pendulum of hope and fear.
And whether the sports are played in a high school gym or a stadium filled with thousands and millions more watching on at home, the conflict and fortitude necessary to win against the odds will always resonate with us. This is exactly what excites sports fans too, with the online sports betting community at an all-time high with NBA odds being constantly updated.
Here we celebrate the some inspirational Basketball movies.

Few documentaries have captured the rawness of hope better than Steve James and Frederick Marx’s Hoop Dreams. Originally planned as a half hour PBS special on two African-American Chicago high schoolers as they chase their dreams of playing professional basketball,...

Not all teenage werewolf movies are created equal.
As a kid, I couldn’t have been more primed to see 1985’s Teen Wolf, a movie that seemed positively made just for me. I was obsessed with star Michael J. Fox, first from his TV work as Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties and then as Marty McFly in Back to the Future, to this day my favorite movie of all time. Werewolves have always been my movie monster of choice, even as a boy of just eight years old. Combining Michael J. Fox with werewolves—in a high school comedy, no less, then (and possibly still) one of my favorite film genres—seemed a foolproof recipe for a classic. And, in its way, Teen Wolf is a classic: a movie that’s probably as good as it can be while still being far from great. It’s sweet, it means well,...

‘Teen Wolf’ is a fantasy-comedy film that was released in 1985. This hit movie was written by Jeph Leob and Matthew Weisman and was directed by Rod Daniel. Michael J. Fox plays Scott Howard, a teenager who unexpectedly discovers he is a werewolf, as is his father. Scott is a member of his school’s unsuccessful basketball team. When he gets stressed during his next game, it causes him to turn into the werewolf. Rather than being a bad thing, this actually helps his team to win a game for the first time in over three years. Becoming a wolf improves

Rod Daniel, the director of Teen Wolf and K-9, dies at the age of 73.
Here’s some (more) sad news that we missed earlier in the week: Rod Daniel, the director of Teen Wolf, has died, at the age of 73.
Daniel’s directorial career also covered films such as Like Father Like Son, K-9, Home Alone 4 and Beethoven’s 2nd. He notably was quite dismissive of his own work in a later interview he gave, telling reporter Christopher Borrelli that “I hold no illusions. I wouldn’t buy a ticket to any of my movies”.
“It's going to sound like a cop-out, but when I retired, I never once thought about it. Does that answer your question? I don't rank with the greats. I made these [expletive] movies because I could, and because they paid me a great deal of money. Which is not to say I...

Film-maker once told a journalist he had ‘no illusions’ about the quality of his work and wouldn’t buy a ticket to any of them
Rod Daniel, the Teen Wolf director best known for delivering mainstream Hollywood comedies in the 1980s and early 1990s, has died at the age of 73.
Daniel made his directing debut on the 1985 supernatural comedy, which starred Michael J Fox as a high school student who discovers a family tendency towards lycanthropy. The low-budget film, which cost just $1.2m to make, failed to repeat the enormous box office success of Fox’s other comedy of that year, Back to the Future. But it was nevertheless enormously profitable for studio Atlantic Releasing Corporation, pulling in worldwide receipts of $80m, and has retained something of a minor cult status ever since. A TV remake, also titled Teen Wolf, was recently renewed for a sixth season.

The first Home Alone film to skip cinemas. Home Alone 4, though, had problems on its hands. Not least recasting the original roles...
Spoilers lie ahead.
I’m not familiar with what happened to the Home Alone rights between 1997 and 2002, but it’s fair to say that – a decade on from the original – anyone remotely interested in watching a Home Alone sequel will have moved on to whatever older teenagers were into back in 2002. MP3 players and Chemsex or whatever. But surely there’s always a fresh stream of children who might want to revel in the action and comedy of a Home Alone movie? Well, no. But there might just be enough people keen enough to watch it on TV under the mistaken belief that the name represented any badge of quality.
So it was that we ended up with Home Alone 4: Taking Back The House.

1985's "Teen Wolf" flips the similarly themed "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" on its head. Instead of the heavy breathing psychodrama of Michael Landon’s tortured teen, we’re treated to a family-friendly comedy where Michael Fox’s lycanthropic curse is used as a metaphor for self-empowerment. Director Rod Daniel’s film was a modest success leading to a sequel, a cartoon show and a live-action series that debuted in 2011 and is still running.

In the film industry, every appalling thing you see is the result of a bad decision happening at some point during the production process. Sometimes you can put these decisions down to inexperience, overconfidence, or incorrectly predicting market trends but more often than not, they come from someone who really should have known better.
Whether it’s because those people have experience in their respective fields that should have stopped those decisions dead in their tracks, or because the decision was stupid and/or utterly insane. And because comedy is a harder minefield to negotiate than other genres, there are a lot of appalling comedy films from studio executives and filmmakers who really should have known better…

Kirk Cameron, Left Behind Kirk Cameron: Gays 'Unnatural' – Plus Cameron's Banana Video As for Kirk Cameron, he hasn't had a very fruitful film career, as the vast majority of his work has been restricted to television. During his Growing Pains heyday in the '80s, Cameron was seen in only a handful of mainstream releases, all but one box-office bombs — e.g., Douglas Day Stewart's romantic drama Listen to Me (1989), opposite Jami Gertz, and the Robin Williams-Kurt Russell comedy The Best of Times (1986). The second phase of Cameron's film career is comprised of a few movies geared to Evangelical Christian audiences in the United States. In Vic Sarin's Armaggedon-themed Left Behind (2001), Cameron plays television journalist Buck Williams, described by the New York Times' Stephen Holden as "the most golly gee-whiz young journalist to appear since Jimmy Olsen stalked Superman." For all his naiveté, Williams uncovers...

Michael J Fox, lycanthropy and basketball clash in the amusing 80s teen comedy, Teen Wolf. Jeff takes a look back…
Delightfully mediocre is a term that applies to the original Teen Wolf, the less ambitious of two Michael J Fox films released in 1985. Ostensibly an upbeat, John Hughes-esque take on fare like I Was A Teenage Werewolf (perhaps in name only), Teen Wolf only wishes to please, having neither bark nor bite. Still, this eager puppy of a teen flick does a more than a few tricks well, and remains spritely and cuddly after all this time.
Fox plays Scott Howard, an only child living with his father (James Hampton in a quiet, understated performance). Scott has two best friends, the exuberant and at times overbearing Rupert ‘Stiles’ Stilinksi (Jerry Levine), and literal girl-next-door ‘Boof,’ played to wholesome perfection by Susan Ursitti.
His biggest problem is the lack of a maternal figure,...

Will Rupert Murdoch go down for Nine Months or escape on Titanic? We launch our own inquiry into Fox-backed films
Hugh Grant has declared that he had no idea that Nine Months, the dopey pregromcom he made in 1995 with Julianne Moore, was a Fox movie – that is to say, one for which Rupert Murdoch was ultimately responsible. He says that if he knew then what he knows now, he never would have accepted the role.
Murdoch bought Fox in 1985 – he had to become a Us citizen to do so. But if there was a searching internal inquiry into quality at Fox – similar to the searching internal inquiry into ethics avowedly taking place at News International – how would the arguments stack up? What movies made or distributed by Mr Murdoch would be adduced in evidence? As the defendant sits impassively in the dock, perhaps behind bullet-proof glass, here are the opposing...

Here's a really big rumor being reported by Articlesbase.com that once Tom Welling is finished with Smallville he will move on to star in a new feature film remake of the 1985 film Teen Wolf.
This information comes from a source that is currently working on the new Teen Wolf TV series being developed for MTV. The new Teen Wolf feature film reboot will be a little different from the original, the biggest change is that the werewolf will be a teenage girl. Here's what thew site had to say,
Teen Wolf, which was originally led by actor Michael J. Fox, showcases a high school student who discovers that his family has an odd heritage and eventually finds himself transforming into a werewolf. Released in 1985, the movie was directed by Rod Daniel, and was co-written by Jeph Loeb and Matthew Weisman. As for Welling’s upcoming movie, his version will...

I know I shouldn’t pass judgment on a series before production has started, but I think it’s fairly safe to say that MTV’s upcoming “Teen Wolf” series is going to be, well, extremely interesting, to say the very least. The show, of course, is loosely based on the 1985 Michael J. Fox vehicle directed by Rod Daniel, though I’m sure major adjustments will be made to allow this premise to thrive on a weekly basis. In terms of execution, I imagine the program will operate along the lines of MTV’s other scripted programs, namely “The Hills” and their current train wreck “Jersey Shore.” Only with more hair. A lot more hair. As you may have noticed, all attempts to disguise my contempt have systematically failed. Sorry about that. According to those tasty individuals at The Hollywood Reporter, upstarts Tyler Posey, Tyler Hoechlin, Crystal Reed, and Dylan...

Stop me if you've heard this one before: a cheesy but beloved 80s flick may suffer the indignity of a remake. Teen Wolf is under consideration for a new version, according to Moviehole. Before you light your torches and grab your pitchforks, though, be advised that the phrase "currently out to writers" is used, which means there is definitely no guarantee that the project will move forward. You may now breathe a sigh of (temporary) relief.
