What happens in suburbia, stays in suburbia.
Tom Hanks stars as Otto, a widower who prefers a solitary life — and makes his disgruntlement known to those around him. That is, until new neighbors thaw his frozen heart.
Directed by Marc Forster, “A Man Called Otto” opens in select theaters December 25 in Los Angeles and New York, and premieres wide January 13, 2023. The film is based on Swedish author Fredrik Backman’s 2012 novel “A Man Called Ove.”
Per the official synopsis, based on the comical and moving # 1 New York Times bestseller, “A Man Called Otto” tells the story of Otto Anderson (Hanks), a grumpy widower who is very set in his ways. When a lively young family moves in next door, he meets his match in quick-witted and very pregnant Marisol (Mariana Treviño), leading to an unlikely friendship that will turn his world upside-down. Experience a funny, heartwarming story about how some...

The 2022 Emmy nominations are finally here, and beneath the snubs and surprises are some very interesting insights into the minds of voters. Among the questions answered: Does everyone still really love “Ted Lasso” that much now that other great comedies like “Atlanta” and “Barry” are back? (Yes.) Of the dozens of Limited Series that premiered in the spring, which shows did people actually watch? Has the Emmys made any strides in recognizing a diverse group of nominees? (It’s complicated.)
Below, we break down five key takeaways from the 2022 Primetime Emmy nominations.
1. The Uniformity of Shows Nominated Isn’t All That Surprising or Bad
One major aspect of the Emmys that separates it from the Oscars is that it actually helps contenders a great deal if their show is extremely popular. While it is ideal to see a variety of shows make the final cut, it is not too much...

Asian and Pacific Islander actors did not fare well in terms of 2021 Primetime Emmys acting nominations, but Aapi will be far better represented at the 2022 ceremony.
South Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series following his turn in Netflix’s “Squid Game,” while Sandra Oh scored another nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series courtesy of “Killing Eve.”
Bowen Yang received a supporting actor nod for “Saturday Night Live” while Park Hae-Soo, Oh-Yeong-su, Jung Ho-yeon and Lee You-mi were all also nominated for “Squid Game.” HBO Max’s “Station Eleven” landed Himesh Patel an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie nod. Nick Mohammed scored a nod for his turn in Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso.” Padma Lakshmi is nominated for Outstanding Host for Reality or Competition Program for “Top Chef,” while Tan France is nominated along with his “Queer Eye” co-hosts.

We didn’t have to lose Selena to love Selena, but that’s the hand the Emmys dealt.
Although Selena Gomez, the influential superstar of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” was unfortunately omitted from the lead actress in a comedy category, the 29-year-old executive producer is included among the team for outstanding comedy series, alongside her co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Her inclusion in the category marks only the second time a Latina has ever been among the producing nominees for comedy series in the 74-year Emmy history. The first was Salma Hayek for Fox’s “Ugly Betty” back in 2007. In addition, only one Latina woman has won as a producer in any of the top series categories in history (Celia D. Costas for “Angels in America” in 2004).

Only two Latinas have been nominated at the Emmys in the lead actress comedy category in its 78-year history, and it’s no laughing matter. But, this year, we could see the third with Selena Gomez in the mystery-comedy “Only Murders in the Building” from Hulu.
Possibly following in the footsteps of Rita Moreno (who was nominated in 1983 for “9 to 5”) and America Ferrera (who won in 2007 for “Ugly Betty” and received another nom in 2008), Gomez’s role as Mabel Mora has been one of the bright spots of the show alongside comedic legends Steve Martin and Martin Short. Overall, the comedy categories are undoubtedly the most competitive this season, with even the lead actress category seemingly stacked. Nevertheless, Gomez will attempt to stay in the conversation alongside Jean Smart (“Hacks”), Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and Issa Rae (“Insecure”), while Martin and Short are hoping not to split votes with one another.

The Girl on the Train is a film that might wander through a host of different theories, and films that may seem like similar theories pop up a few times a year, as direct-to-video or cable network efforts.
I hope potential audiences take into account the well-received book this is based on, and Director Tate Taylor‘s abilities when deciding on this one. Taylor, of The Help and Get On Up, should fit well in this odd ride, even if his work doesn’t make that obvious to everyone. He has knack for conversations and moments of introspection that should translate brilliantly to this, admittedly Rear Window-esque, thriller.
Of course, Emily Blunt may convince you as well.
The film has finally released some looks at more of what’s going on in the film, notably other members of the cast who make up what The Girl on the Train is looking at.

A new trailer has surfaced for the thriller, based on the novel, The Girl on the Train and we're getting a big Gone Girl vibe from it in the best way possible. Come inside to take a look!
From the trailer alone, we can tell that this movie is going to be another edge of your seat thriller. A woman (Emily Blunt) witnesses a murder from a train and suddenly she's now in question as a murder suspect. It's very reminiscent of 2014's Gone Girl, in that there so many twists and turns you really aren't sure if she did it or not. Not to mention, it also looks like it in the cinematography.
Although, this is just a teaser trailer. However, if The Girl On the Train is anything like Gone Girl, we're in for another amazing film. Not to mention, a big bump in stardom for Emily Blunt,...

While she can be seen in a fantastical world with The Huntsman: Winter’s War this weekend, Emily Blunt‘s more grounded — and substantial — role will come this fall with The Girl on the Train. On Thursday, HBO announced it has renewed the series even before its August 8 premiere. Academy Award nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) stars as Annie, a young, happy foster kid who’s also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they’d be back for her someday, it’s been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz).
But everything’s about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) – advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) – makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. Stacks believes he’s her guardian angel, but Annie’s self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean...

Will Gluck’s remake of Annie might just end up being 2014′s Les Miserables, and with Christmas release already pencilled in, it has every chance of taking the box office by storm as well.
Focusing on an orphan adopted by the wealthy Daddy Warbucks (renamed Benjamin Stacks and a New York mayoral candidate in this updated version of the classical musical), it’s a heartwarming tale and boasts an impressive cast of actors which also includes Rose Byrne and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
This latest trailer features “A Hard Knock Life” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile”, along with a few modern day changes to some now very dated lines!
We also get to see a lot more of some of the cast members who weren’t featured that heavily in the original trailer, and while many continue to doubt the necessity of this remake, it does actually look a lot better than expected!

A long time from now (pre-Christmas if nothing goes wrong) a new version of Annie is coming to theaters, and the release of the trailer has been met with virtually unprecedented internet gushing. Just about everyone seems to be falling all over themselves to make sure they are on record cheering for the upcoming film, the trailer itself, and the undeniable cuteness of Quvenzhané Wallis.
It’s all a bit suspicious. Check the trailer yourself below, and let me know what you think, but something strange seems to be happening with the release of this trailer.
First, when is the last time everyone, everywhere had anything to say about a trailer beyond, “Here it is,” or similar? Sure, once in a while you might get something like the trailer for a Marvel movie with some sort of teaser trying to suck you into watching it with vague details about who gets revealed.

I had a fantastic time meeting the main cast of "Taking Woodstock." And the film is equally thought-provoking (I'll post my review very soon!).
Directed by Ang Lee ("Brokeback Mountain," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") and based on a book by Elliot Tiber called "Taking Woodstock: A True Story of A Riot, A Concert, and A Life," the film is a bittersweet look at the event that changed pop culture forever.
So take a trip with "Taking Woodstock" when it opens this Friday, August 28.
Now, here are my interviews:

- When I think of Woodstock, I usually imagine mud-splattered hippies dancing to rock'n'roll. I also think of free love and, yes, drugs. The last person I would associate with Woodstock, Ang Lee, is set to begin directing Taking Woodstock later this month. The Focus Features picture will star Emile Hirsch, Imelda Staunton, and Liev Schreiber. Based upon the memoirs of one of the festival's founders, the film will have a variety of wacky characters, including a transvestite (Schreiber), an interior-designer-turned-concert-organizer (Demetri Martin), and, of course, a Vietnam veteran (Hirsch). Eugene Levy will also be in the cast, which will hopefully prevent him from making any other American Pie movies for the time being. While another potential Screen Actors Guild strike looms in the background, Lee has no fears: Focus has worked out a secret plan in case of a strike.Woodstock will be produced by Lee and Focus Features CEO Schamus.
