Replay Events have confirmed the first fourteen indie studios that will be exhibiting at their Manchester based video games event, Play Expo this coming October. The number represents a considerable increase in developers exhibiting at their annual gaming show. Says Andy Brown, Director at Replay Events:
We are overwhelmed by the support the indie game community has shown our expo this year. The indie zone was a very popular feature at our Play Blackpool show in May as well as at Play Expo last year so we wanted to build on that momentum for this October’s show which is shaping up to be our best yet!
Play Expo is now in its fifth year and has established itself as a firm favourite amongst gamers. The event saw close to 16,000 attendees in 2013 and the organisers have increased the show space to accommodate up to 25,000 gaming fans this year. As well as an indie zone,...

Hot on the heels of creating the animation for The Lego Movie 3D, which has amassed $US330 million worldwide, Animal Logic has been restructured into three divisions.
The group will now comprise Animal Logic Animation; Animal Logic VFX; and Animal Logic Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based feature film development arm that is nurturing a slate of animation, hybrid animation and live-action and director and VFX-driven films.
Eighteen months after the company bought Fuel VFX, its personnel have been integrated with Animal Logic.s VFX teams and the Fuel VFX brand has been dropped.
.The newly consolidated division will trade as Animal Logic VFX, incorporating the wealth of talent and technology under one roof, further strengthening its ongoing commitment to the Australian and international VFX industry,. Animal Logic CEO Zareh Nalbandian tells If.
.On the back of the success of The Lego Movie it is a logical step to have a clearer structure across the company.

Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation wins every film category but two at the annual Australian awards ceremony.
The big budget Us-financed jazz age extravaganza The Great Gatsby won every film category but two at the annual Aacta (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television) Awards this evening Australian time in Sydney.
This included the best film gong, which goes to Australian producers Baz Luhrmann, Catherine Martin and Catherine Knapman and their Us counterparts Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher.
Luhrmann also scored best director and, with his high school friend and regular collaborator Craig Pearce, best adapted screenplay.
The only award The Great Gatsby could have won but didn’t was for best actress: that instead went to Rose Byrne for her small part — all the actors had small roles overall — in the bold anthology film The Turning, adapted from a book of short stories by popular novelist Tim Winton.

Lawson singer Andy Brown has backed the Justice Collective for this year's Christmas number one. The singer, who took part in the charity single alongside stars like Robbie Williams and Sir Paul McCartney, described the track as "incredible" to Capital FM. The 'When She Was Mine' singer said that it was an "absolute honour" to work with some of his musical heroes on the track. "I'm just delighted to be involved. I mean I'm singing alongside some of my idols like Paul McCartney and Robbie Williams," he explained. "The song's incredible itself, 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother', it's got a great meaning behind the song and I really think it deserves to be Christmas number (more)...

Every year, I try to do at least two things with my students at least once. First, I make a point of addressing them as “philosophers” – a bit cheesy, but hopefully it encourages active learning.
Secondly, I say something like this: “I’m sure you’ve heard the expression ‘everyone is entitled to their opinion.’ Perhaps you’ve even said it yourself, maybe to head off an argument or bring one to a close. Well, as soon as you walk into this room, it’s no longer true. You are not entitled to your opinion. You are only entitled to what you can argue for.”

Lawson arrived to the music scene in a moment when One Direction had monopolized the slot for a male pop band. The Wanted were also doing well, even with their permanent look of boredom (and also slight anger at being in the shadow of a newcomer, despite being older and having been around for longer). It could have seemed that the only option for male bands was to go down this route of dancing rehearsals and summer love songs, and then Lawson arrived. This four-piece band ventured their way into the music biz with a first single titled ‘When She Was Mine’, and built their image as performers by playing their instruments. It worked: the song was number 4 in the UK and it was followed by ‘Taking Over Me’, which managed a position in the top 3.
Now their first Ep is out, and the single chosen...

The couple were first linked in April 2011, with the Dolce & Gabbana model meeting King shortly after her split from boyfriend of two years Andy Brown. The beginning of each year is a time for reevaluation, renewal, and resolutions. Every year, millions of people decide to turn over a new leaf in one part of their lives or another, to finally quit smoking, to keep to the budget this time, to get to the gym more often. Yes, many will slide back into old habits, but that desire for a fresh start, and the feeling that such a new beginning is possible, is one of the great things about this time of year. In keeping with this, and as a potential source of inspiration to keep to those resolutions, here are a few series about characters who’ve decided to take control of their lives and make a change, hopefully for the better.

Developers unlock £50 million for the Weavers' Triangle after government funding is guaranteed to improve connections to Manchester, London - and Hollywood
These are better days for Burnley which is digesting the long-awaited news that its direct rail link to Manchester is to be restored.
The issue of re-opening the Todmorden Curve, a brief but crucial stretch of rail track closed after Dr Beeching's axe in 1963, was previously highlighted in the Northerner, when Tony Blair's former press man Alastair Campbell – a well-known Clarets fan – spoke out in September about the trials of getting to Turf Moor.
The breakthrough has come with the new Regional Growth Fund announced by the deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, as pressure on the coalition to do more to help manufacturing mounts. The North West region's initial share includes the £8.8 million needed to reopen the curve and allow Burnley-Manchester trains to avoid a meander into Yorkshire...
