Working on the science fiction series Dark Angel brought both Jensen Ackles and Jessica Alba their fair share of success, despite some ups and downs. Fox’s show, which starred Alba as super soldier Max Guevara escaping from government agents in a post-apocalyptic Seattle, was created by James Cameron and Charles H. Eglee and premiered in 2000.
During the second season, Ackles joined the show as Max’s fellow supersoldier, Alec McDowell (X5-494). The actors engaged in a lot of fighting during Dark Angel’s action sequences, but Ackles maintained that the tension between them was even greater off-screen.
Jessica Alba in Dark Angel
The former Supernatural cast member revealed in 2022 how “horrible” his experience was while working on Dark Angel, saying that the Fantastic Four star “did not make it easy” for him on set.

I met Danielle Perez during an event for the podcast The Bechdel Cast, where she was talking about “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.” It was my first few weeks of living in Los Angeles, and as a disabled woman who was bemoaning the lack of disabled people in the city, to see a disabled woman of color not just onstage but rocking it was amazing.
Since that time, Perez has blossomed into a regular face in the stand-up world, and has been writing for television — her latest job is on the Netflix series “The Wedding Coach” — as well as making regular television appearances like in Ryan O’Connell’s Emmy-winning series “Special.”
When it comes to a discussion of representation, Perez approaches it differently because she became a wheelchair user when she was 20. But she was already cognizant of how television viewed her, as she is Afro-Latina. “I knew I...

Being a huge fan of the horror genre means that I have watched many strange movies. From a killer car tyre to a zombie musical to killer sushi – I could go on and on. And She Rises, in different ways, is right up there with the strangest.
The story itself sounds simple enough, as a director and her lead actor end up staying in a cabin in the woods for a night, owned by a seemingly shy but normal woman and her not so normal Father. But that is as simple as things get. Soon their female host becomes a lot less innocent and sweet as she first seemed, while her Father might just be ready to kill someone.

The week I saw Fetish Factory, the new feature from writer/director Staci Layne Wilson, I also rewatched Anna Biller’s The Love Witch and Hillary Clinton lost her chance to be the first female president of the United States. I was very much in the mindset of seeing art through a specific prism of gender politics and sexism, which may have colored my reading of the movie. At the same time, I don’t know if that’s true. This is a movie with gender politics very much on its mind. You don’t make a movie about the male customers of a sex fetish club being turned into bloodthirsty zombies without wanting to say something about the relationship between men and women.

Many know Michael Biehn from his iconic roles in James Cameron’s Aliens, The Terminator, and The Abyss, but in recent years he and his wife and business partner Jennifer Blanc-Biehn have been a tremendous force on the indie scene with their production company, Blanc-Biehn Productions, which provides a platform for indie filmmakers—including themselves—to tell new stories and interact with their dedicated fan base.

Everly - Radius-twc - Blu-ray and DVD Director: Joe Lynch Cast: Salma Hayek, Hiroyuki Watanabe, Jennifer Blanc, Togo Igawa Everly stars Salma Hayek as the kept girlfriend of a gangster who decides to finally break free of her terrible life. Having typed that, it sounds like a standard Sundance drama, so I should probably point out that breaking free of her life involves guns and killing wave after wave of people who are hired to try and kill her.
