Twenty-five years. That's how long Olivia Benson has come into our homes and hearts on Law & Order: Svu.
We've grown with her, been inspired by her, and cried with her. She almost feels like a friend, and why wouldn't she?
After spending a quarter of a century together, Olivia Benson is as familiar as she is iconic and deserves to be celebrated.
It was nearly impossible to whittle the list of memorable Olivia Benson moments to just 25. She shines in every episode, and it's been exciting to accompany her on her journey from doe-eyed newbie to tough-as-nails captain of the Svu unit.
Still, every season had at least one moment that stood out.
Law & Order: Svu has evolved over the years, as has Benson, but it's easy to forget how different things were when the series first began.
Benson used to have a different hairstyle every season -- remember that?...

Metaphysical podcast The Outer Limits of Inner Truth recently commemorated its ten-year anniversary. Publishing 435 episodes with over two million downloads, the program has encompassed freedom, deep introspection, self discovery, and spiritual growth.
Originally billed as “The world’s only show about Forensic Soul Analysis,” Olit would feature a guest and afterwards three spiritual teachers would each offer their analysis on the individual’s past lives, soul purpose, and astrological chart.
"The purpose of Olit has always been to explore consciousness and present information that a person can use to enhance the quality of their life. Insatiable curiosity and introspection have been the two driving concepts behind the program. We haven't been afraid to seek truth or aggressively challenge long-held collective beliefs." said Ryan McCormick, host of the Outer Limits of Inner Truth.

We live in a golden era of sci-fi on TV, where "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" come in multiple flavors, "Stranger Things" is an event every season, and the CW recently wrapped up an entire universe of DC Comics superheroes on the small screen. Fortunately for all sci-fi fans, this is a time where the people who make such shows grew up loving them, and critics who review them were raised on the concepts and get it. This is all a relatively new phenomenon.
As recently as the '90s, TV critics weren't necessarily big on high-concept sci-fi, and the people making these shows didn't always know what they were doing either. Even if they did, producers over their heads weren't necessarily making the best decisions either. Superheroes on TV were entirely different three decades ago, and the weekly format was just discovering the notion of season-long arcs. There were growing pains to be sure,...

Renowned comedian Richard Lewis, famous for his stand-up performances and memorable role on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, died on Tuesday night at his Los Angeles home after he suffered a heart attack. He was 76 years old.
The news of Lewis’s death was confirmed by his publicist, Jeff Abraham. Lewis had been living with Parkinson’s disease, a diagnosis he revealed in April 2023. In a statement, Lewis’s wife, Joyce Lapinsky, expressed gratitude for the love, friendship and support people had extended, and asked for privacy at this difficult time.
Born as Richard Philip Lewis on June 29, 1947, in Brooklyn and raised in Englewood, New Jersey, Lewis went on to graduate from Ohio State University. He emerged in the 1970s comedy scenes of New York and Los Angeles alongside future stars like Andy Kaufman, Richard Belzer and Elayne Boosler. Richard Lewis, the wild, eccentric, ultra-neurotic stand-up comedian and comic actor who most recently served as a semi-regular alongside Larry David on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” is dead. He was 76. Lewis suffered a fatal heart attack Tuesday night less than a year after announcing in April 2023 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and was retiring from performing stand-up comedy. Lewis’ death was confirmed by his publicist Jeff Abraham, who noted, “His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for the love, friendship and support and asks everyone for privacy at this time.”
He appeared this month on the 12th and final season of “Curb” after begging off of the show in its 11th season while recovering from a series of surgeries. But he wound up shooting a scene in an episode that year, anyway.

Richard Lewis, one of the most influential stand-up comedians of his era and Larry David's hilariously neurotic best friend on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," has died at the age of 76. The official cause of death was listed as a heart attack.
Lewis belonged to a class of comedians who turned joke-telling into a confessional art form. His contemporaries were Richard Belzer, Elayne Boosler, Robert Klein, and Jerry Seinfeld. Lewis got belly laughs out of failed relationships, depression, anxiety, and addiction. He was reliably, identifiably miserable, which was a balm for anyone in his audience who happened to be struggling because, no matter how awful his life seemed to be, he was always back on stage the next night or bantering with David Letterman a week month later after recounting his latest crisis.

Richard Lewis, the beloved comedian, stand-up comedy all-star, and series regular on Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, has died after suffering a heart attack. He was 76. Lewis’ death was confirmed by his publicist, Jeff Abraham. “His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time,” Abraham said.
Richard Lewis’ comedic journey began with dual debuts in the New York and Los Angeles comedy arenas in the 1970s. Mentioned in the same breaths as comedy legends like Andy Kaufman, Richard Belzer, and Elayne Boosler, Lewis’ comedy style was darker and more self-deprecating than his fellow kings and queens of comedy. Not afraid to lampoon his shortcomings, Richard Lewis shared grim comedy about his addictions and bizarre thinking.
Lewis revealed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in April 2023 and planned to retire from his stand-up career.

Law & Order: Svu was a bit of new territory for hip-hop artist Ice-t. When he first met the cast, he noticeably kept a bit of distance. But little did the rapper know he’d be working with his Law & Order for 25 seasons now.
Ice-t failed to hang out with his ‘Law & Order’ co-stars at first Ice-t, Chris Meloni, Richard Belzer, Diane Neal, Dann Florek, B.D. Wong, Mariska Hargitay | NBC Universal / Getty Images
Ice-t couldn’t have known Law & Order was going to last as long as it has when he was first cast. The actor has always shared that he was originally only supposed to be on the show for four episodes.
“Here it is, we’re starting the 22nd season. I can’t really explain it, man,” Ice-t said not too long ago on Straight Up Steve Austin.
But Ice-t doesn’t mind the show’s longevity.

For 25 years, Olivia Benson's fought the good fight, but it sucks when she loses a victim.
She learned that the hard way on Law & Order: Svu Season 25 Episode 1 when all her efforts to find a missing teenager led nowhere.
This strange, heartbreaking case was the perfect way to kick off the long-running series' historic 25th season -- but is this the end of Maddie's story?
Maddie's kidnapping happened at the same time as the baptism of Rollins' baby. The celebratory scenes at the church and the bar afterward made Maddie's disappearance even more powerful a gut punch.
I was surprised that nobody explicitly referenced the parallel.
Rollins has been worried since becoming pregnant 0about bringing another child into a world where monsters prey on young people, yet she seemed undisturbed by the incident. She was focused entirely on how Benson was doing.
It might have been especially terrifying if she knew all the details.

Law & Order: Svu just hit a major milestone. The police procedural is heading into its 25th season, and the show’s cast decided to celebrate the occasion in style. Mariska Hargitay, Ice-t, and other stars of the NBC drama, past and present, gathered at Edge at Hudson Yards in New York City on Jan. 16 to mark the show’s birthday ahead of the season 25 premiere on Jan. 18.
It’s been a long journey for the special victims unit squad. The show launched in 1999 as a spinoff of Law & Order. Since then, more than 500 episodes have aired, and the show has become the second-longest-running scripted primetime drama after The Simpsons (based on the number of seasons). Let’s take a look at some of the Law & Order: Svu cast, then and now.

Viewers were left baffled on Monday, January 15, when the 2023 Emmy Awards left several stars out of the show’s emotional In Memoriam tribute. The segment, which pays tribute to stars who passed away since the previous year’s (September 2022) ceremony, honored the likes of Norman Lear, Angela Lansbury, and Andre Braugher. As such, Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers introduced the segment in light of the recent loss of Lear, the pioneering producer renowned for creating groundbreaking series like their All in the Family, as well as Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, and Good Times. As the presentation started, several stars appeared to the tune of Charlie Puth‘s “See You Again,” which shifted to a special tribute to Matthew Perry accompanied by the theme song of Friends. Stephen “tWitch” Boss, Richard Belzer, Treat Williams, and Angus Cloud were also honored alongside Lance Reddick. However, there were still some snubs,...

Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers took the stage at the 2023 Emmys to pay tribute to their former colleague Norman Lear, in addition to other notable television figures who passed away since the previous ceremony.
Charlie Puth and The War and Treaty — comprised of Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter — performed the former’s hit 2015 song “See You Again” for the In Memoriam segment. They finished the segment with a rendition of the Friends theme song that coincided with Matthew Perry being featured as the final name in the video tribute.
In keeping with the ceremony’s theme of celebrating television reunions, Reiner and Struthers reminisced about their time together as co-stars on All in the Family, the classic CBS sitcom that debuted in 1971 and ran for nine seasons.
“There’s a Yiddish word that describes Norman’s genius — it’s ‘kochleffel,'” Reiner said. “For all you non-Jews out there,...

“Homicide: Life on the Street” writer and producer David Simon revealed in an X/Twitter post that the series may be heading to streaming services.
“I have been informed by a reliable source that NBC/Universal is at last attempting, along with Fremantle on the overseas rights, to clear music rights on #Homicide for eventual streaming. Lot of work to do achieve that, however, I am also told,” Simon wrote. “Andre alone ought to rate such.”
The news comes days after the death of Andre Braugher, who portrayed Detective Frank Pembleton on the police drama series. Braugher died Dec. 11 of lung cancer at age 61.

This year has, unfortunately, been filled with a slew of heartbreaking celebrity deaths. In October, "Friends" fans were shocked by the sudden death of Matthew Perry at age 54. Actors Richard Roundtree, Suzanne Somers, and Piper Laurie also died, as did musician Rudolph Isley.
In September, "Harry Potter" star Michael Gambon, "NCIS" actor David McCallum, musicians Steve Harwell and Jimmy Buffett, and 702 singer Irish Grinstead all died. In August, actor Arleen Sorkin, "The Price is Right" host Bob Barker, "This Is Us" actor Ron Cephas Jones, and musician DJ Casper, the man behind the 1998 party hit "Cha Cha Slide," died as well. The month before, we lost actors Angus Cloud and Paul Reubens, famed singers Tony Bennett, Sinéad O'Connor, and Jane Birkin, and musician Coco Lee. When it comes crashing down and it hurts inside, then it might be time to step away from the drugs and alcohol. And that’s just what pro wrestler, suburban commando and Richard Belzer choker-outer Hulk Hogan had to do when it started running wild on him.
Speaking with Muscle & Health, Hulk Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) said, “I’ve had a lot of practice drinking because I wrestled for about forty years, so those guys have a beer every once in a while,” a clear nod to the days when the vast majority of pro wrestlers were heavy drinkers (and looked like it). “But about seven months ago, I decided not to drink any more alcohol. Law & Order: Svu has always been more character-driven than its parent show; from its pilot episode, it focused both on the week's crime and how investigating heinous acts of violence took a toll on the detectives.
Ex-svu alum and current lead on Law & Order: Organized Crime Christopher Meloni appeared sporadically throughout Season 24 as Stabler and Benson slowly drifted toward each other.

In 1972, Woody Allen scored a surprise success with his audacious sketch comedy film "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask)." This rambunctious collection of ribald bits was both uproarious and deceptively off-handed. Suddenly, there was a market for loosely stitched-together, adult-skewing yuk-fests. These movies could be made fast and on the cheap because you didn't need production value to get a belly laugh out of dirty jokes or gratuitous nudity. This was smash-and-grab comedy, and it thrived throughout most of the decade.
One such practitioner of this scandalous style was Ken Shapiro. The counterculture satirist had created an underground comedy hit in New York City with his Channel One Theater, an innovative live show that barraged audiences with tawdry skits via three television sets. With Allen's movie, Monty Python's "And Now for Something Completely Different" and Brian De Palma's "Hi, Mom!" making untoward hay in movie theaters,...

How much clamor there was for a crossover of the three FBI series is debatable.
Still, a reasonably seamless narrative ran through FBI: International Season 2 Episode 16, FBI Season 5 Episode 17, and FBI: Most Wanted Season 4 Episode 16.
That makes sense because crossovers are old hat for Dick Wolf.
One of the earliest crossovers was Wolf's Og Law & Order, crossing over with Tom Fontana's Homicide in 1996. The two series crossed over twice more during their runs.
Richard Belzer's John Munch, the crossover king who appeared in 10 different series, even moved from Homicide to Wolf's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 1999.
Subsequently, crossovers have become more commonplace between and within Wolf's One Chicago and Law & Order franchises. So this FBI crossover was inevitable.

Like many other actors, Succession star Nicholas Braun’s early days as an actor included a guest spot on the long-running NBC drama Law & Order: Svu. I played, I think, a character without a name, Boy in Internet Café, because those existed at the time,” Braun recalled when he stopped by Live with Kelly and Ryan ahead of his HBO drama’s return for its fourth and final season on March 26. “I was looking at a video of the woman who got murdered or sexually assaulted because that’s the show, and then Chris Meloni and Ice-t, I think, come down and sit down, and they’re like, ‘why are you watching this video?’” he continued. “Actually it’s funny because Chris Meloni didn’t think I was getting ...

Saturday Night Live didn’t forget that Law & Order: Svu star Richard Belzer is part of its origin story. The NBC sketch-comedy series’ February 25 episode honored the comedian and actor — who died on February 19 — with a title card showing a young Belzer performing stand-up. Belzer was Saturday Night Live’s original warm-up comic when the show premiered in 1975, according to Vulture. He also appeared on screen during SNL’s early years, playing a juror in the debut episode and standing in for Chevy Chase in a Season 2 installment, Deadline notes. In a 1993 interview with People, Belzer claimed that his friend Lorne Michaels, creator of SNL, promised to make him a cast member but later reneged. “John [Belushi], Bill Murray, and Gilda [Radner] got on the show and became big stars and millionaires,” Belzer told the magazine. “Lorne betrayed me and lied to me — which he denies — but I give you my word he said,...

Richard Belzer played the character of Detective John Munch for nearly 30 years, popping up as Munch in various TV shows that span across genres. Belzer felt like an actor who would just be around forever, which made his recent death at the age of 78 all the more melancholy. But while Belzer may be gone, his legacy lives on. And now, USA Network will pay tribute to the late actor by airing a "Munch-a-thon" that will feature 10 of Belzer's best episodes from "Law & Order: Svu." Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will be a streaming event for the first time on the Netflix YouTube channel. One of the highlights each year is the special In Memoriam segment. It’s been a particularly rough year with over 100 deaths of prominent actors and actresses who were likely members of SAG/AFTRA. Show producers typically are able to include approximately 40-50 people in a tribute.
Among that group will certainly be Oscar winners Louise Fletcher, William Hurt and Irene Cara, plus nominees Angela Lansbury (a SAG life achievement recipient) and Melinda Dillon. Emmy champs Mary Alice, Kirstie Alley, Leslie Jordan, Ray Liotta, Stuart Margolin, Robert Morse and Barbara Walters.

Mariska Hargitay is once again remembering Richard Belzer, her late Law & Order: Svu co-star, as a special “heart and soul” who as both an actor and comedian was “brilliant.”
While appearing on NBC’s Today to discuss the latest episode of one of TV’s longest-running series as well as celebrate longtime colleague and friend Ice-t’s recent Hollywood Walk of Fame honor, the actress opened up about Belzer, who died on Feb. 19 at 78.
“What a heart and soul,” she told Savannah Guthrie. “He was family and taught me so much about taking risks and creativity and trust.”
Hargitay added that while working on the series with her, from which he retired as a series regular in 2016, “he brought so much joy to the set.” According to the actress and EP, he also — despite being an “acerbic, quick-witted, brilliant” mind — had a soft spot for children, whom he would “melt” at the sight of.

Comedian and actor Richard Belzer, who sadly died on Sunday at age 78, played detective John Munch on several series, including “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” And on every single one of them, he had something wise and witty to say.
The character of John Munch was created on the underrated ’90s police drama “Homicide: Life on the Street.” Munch was known for his one-liners, metaphysical riffs and sprawling conspiracy theories while solving murders in Baltimore alongside detectives played by Andre Braugher, Daniel Baldwin and Ned Beatty. As he mused in one episode: “If a murder is committed in Baltimore and no homicide detective takes the call, did that homicide actually occur?”
He got a bit blue when the character moved over to “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” in 1999, where the topics were rape, assault and, sometimes, sexual dysfunction, but he was still the same Munch.

The world recently lost a talented comedian, a gifted actor, and an all-around incredible human being when Richard Belzer passed away at the age of 78. Belzer was a former audience warm-up comedian for "Saturday Night Live," and his knack for bringing the funnies helped make his most memorable character, Bpd Detective, NYPD Detective/Sergeant, and Da Investigator John Munch, everyone's favorite fictional member of law enforcement. The television empire of cop dramas from executive producer Dick Wolf has made household names of characters like Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson, Christopher Meloni's Elliot Stabler, and Ice-t's Odafin Tutuola -- but Belzer's John Munch is in a class all his own.

Richard Belzer was the first actor to welcome me when I started at Svu. Open, warm, acerbic, whip smart, surprisingly kind.

A formal complaint has been made about the author, actor and comedian Stephen Fry over jokes he allegedly told at a cricketing dinner at Lord’s in London.
Marylebone Cricket Club’s president said that the complaint is “incorrect” and some attendees have claimed that Fry was misheard.
Fry, who is president of Marylebone Cricket Club, allegedly cracked a joke about women “shagging” and another that linked Muslims to terrorism.
According to The Times, McC member Chris Waterman urged the club to take disciplinary action against Fry, calling his jokes “egregious”.
Waterman claims that Fry welcomed members by saying: “I had intended to say ‘Good evening, ladies and gentlemen,’ but there are no lady members present. I suppose they are off shagging.”
He also alleged that Fry – referring to the Allahakbarries, an amateur cricket team founded by Peter Pan author Jm Barrie – joked that when used today, the phrase “Allahu...

Don Lemon will miss Monday’s episode of CNN’s This Morning amid controversy surrounding comments he made about Nikki Haley’s age.
Last week, during one of the network’s morning shows, the anchor criticised Haley, who had just announced her presidential campaign, over her suggestion that politicians over 75 should have to undergo “mandatory mental competency tests”.
“This whole talk about age makes me uncomfortable. I think it’s the wrong road to go down. She says people, you know, politicians or something are not in their prime,” Lemon said. “Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime, sorry. A woman is considered to be in their prime in their twenties and thirties and maybe forties.”
The comments prompted pushback from Lemon’s co-host Poppy Harlow, who asked: “What are you talking about… wait, prime for what?”
Harlow then suggested that her co-anchor needed to clarify his meaning, asking: “Are...
