Whatcha gonna do when “Bad Boys” comes for the box office? If you’re a theater owner, the answer is hopefully sell some tickets.
Sony’s “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” the fourth installment in the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-led buddy cop series, is targeting $30 million to $50 million from 3,850 theaters in its first weekend of release. As that cavernous range suggests, estimates vary greatly depending on whom you ask. Sony has offered the soft $30 million figure, while rivals and independent tracking services believe the $45 million to $50 million range is more likely.
Adding to opening-weekend ambiguity: The sequel to 1995’s “Bad Boys,” 2003’s “Bad Boys II” and 2020’s “Bad Boys for Life” is Smith’s first major film to grace the big screen since he assaulted Chris Rock onstage at the 2022 Oscars. Have audiences soured on Smith or will they forgive and forget in favor of another “Bad Boys” reunion?...

Albert Brooks: Defending My Life pays tribute to a pioneer whose irreverent humor has spanned late night TV, comedy albums, features, animated voice work and a novel. But what makes the film sing is the extended rap session between Brooks and his dear friend Rob Reiner, who directed the HBO documentary. The Hollywood legends met as teenagers at Beverly Hills High School, and Reiner structures the film around a lunch in which they swap anecdotes and punchlines about Brooks’ influential career. It’s an energizing way to frame what might otherwise be just another gushy celebrity profile.
Onscreen, Brooks tells stories about the early days of Saturday Night Live and Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show, his friendships with Carrie Fisher and Stanley Kubrick, the seven movies he’s written and directed and the marriage that made him a new father in his 50s. Many of today’s wry humorists owe a debt to Brooks,...

The Game of Thrones prequel House of Dragon has so far had a good run and has quickly become one of the best fantasy shows of all time. Created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal, the show takes place nearly 200 years before the events of the original series. Featuring how the House Targaryen lost its influence and the war of succession that followed, the show nonetheless has had spectacular reviews and reactions.

Yet there have been moments and events that fans found issues with. One of the most significant issues of the series is the development of Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen, which fans have to view more as hero-like. But in an interview, Condal clarified he is not like Han Solo-like character.

As a very bad summer movie season at the box office drones on, it looks like Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are going to do their very best to save the day. Sony's "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" hits theaters next weekend and will look to reignite the box office after a particularly quiet, post-Memorial Day weekend. While Will Smith is no longer the surefire bet he once was in the '90s and early 2000s, in the early going, it looks like this one will be a winner for the A-lister and his co-star Martin Lawrence.

First on LateNighter: Late night had a field day after the Will Smith-Chris Rock incident at the Oscars in 2022, but after a long break, Smith is set to guest next Tuesday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, reuniting with Questlove in the process.
Smith did appear on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah in 2022, eight months after he slapped Rock onstage at the Academy Awards, in which he sat for an interview with Noah and discussed the slap at length, but he’s otherwise avoided late night.
The actor has a long history with Fallon, whose response to the slap was noticeably more muted than other late-night hosts. Smith guested on the host’s first-ever Tonight Show in 2014 (where he memorably performed with Fallon in “The Evolution of Hip-Hop Dancing”), and returned to the program seven more times through 2021.

Netflix, which for years had claimed that live sports did not factor into its business model, is now a major player in the field, recently snapping up Christmas NFL games. But before committing to established, conventional sports franchises like NFL football games and WWE Raw, the streamer tested the waters with stunt-y, made-for-tv sport events, starting with The Netflix Cup on Nov. 14, 2023.
According to Netflix’s second expansive viewership report released today, The Netflix Cup, a golf match featuring drivers and golfers from its docu series Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Full Swing, logged paltry 700,000 views in the second half of 2023.

Jim Parsons is here with the answers to the questions we’ve been asking.
Jim Parsons Would “Never Say Never” To A ‘Big Bang Theory’ Sequel, But He Wouldn’t Want Us To Hold Our Breaths For It Either
For 12 fantastic seasons, we watched Parsons portray one of our favorite characters on the comedy show, Sheldon Cooper – the genius who’s managed to outpace the rest of humanity in terms of mental capacity and yet holds such high regards to the fictional ‘Star Wars’ character Leonard Spock.

When Bad Boys for Life came out in January 2020, it ended a 17-year wait for the third film in the franchise, which launched in 1995 with Bad Boys and continued in 2003 with Bad Boys II. It’s only taken a relatively brief four-plus years to get the latest entry in the series, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, to the screen—but it’s been a tumultuous stretch, to say the least.
“The hope is definitely that everything will be a little bit smoother from now on,” co-director Adil El Arbi, returning to the franchise with directing partner Bilall Fallah after taking over for Michael Bay on the third film, tells Den of Geek ahead of the movie’s arrival. “Because also in those last four years, five years, we have learned so much.

Glen Powell has been attached to star in Paramount’s reimagining of Heaven Can Wait. More on the project below.
Glen Powell truly is the man of the moment. He’s only just coming off the unexpected success of Sony’s Anyone But You and about to headline the summer’s windiest blockbuster Twisters, but he’s now eyeing up a body-switch comedy.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Powell will star in Paramount’s reimagining of Heaven Can Wait, based on Harry Segall’s play of the same name. The play was most famously adapted in 1978 and starred Warren Beatty as an NFL football player who suffers an unfortunate, untimely death but returns to Earth in the body of a recently murdered millionaire.

Just when you thought Glen Powell couldn't be more booked and busy, along comes word that he's adding another potential project to his To Do list. He's now attached to star in a new version of Heaven Can Wait for Paramount.

Stephen Gaghan, who wrote Traffic and wrote/directed Syriana, is on board to script this one.
Originally a 1938 play by Harry Segall, Heaven Can Wait was first turned into a 1941 film by Alexander Hall called Here Comes Mr. Jordan. That outing featured a boxer given a second chance. When it comes to versatility, few do it better than Jeff Daniels, who has had no problem switching between dramas and comedies throughout his illustrious career. However, for his 1993 comedy, Dumb and Dumber, which will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Daniels recalled his agents being against him taking the gig in the Jim Carrey-led film.
While this proved to be the right decision, as the comedy cemented itself as a classic and made a fortune at the box office, the actor feared his career might end because of the toilet scene. But opposed to his fear, the scene was lauded by fans and critics, and it also reminded Clint Eastwood of his failed date.

The previous film in the series. Bad Boys For Life was the highest-grossing film of 2020, although of course quite a lot of things happened in 2020 which meant that as statistics go, that one doesn’t mean all that much. It was the lowest-grossing number one film since the mid-90s.
The future of the film was up in the air ever since Will Smith severely damaged his public image following the slap incident at 2022’s Oscars ceremony. While the film did eventually find a path to production we imagine that the chances of a Chris Rock cameo are probably pretty low.
Here’s the synopsis:...

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is about to enter theaters and the only question in my mind is if Will Smith‘s Oscar 2022 controversy will end the long-running Bad Boys franchise.
It has been more than two years since Smith caused one of the biggest controversies in Hollywood. If you don’t remember let’s recap a bit, on the night of Oscar 2022 popular comedian Chris Rock came out to present an award and made a throwaway and truthfully harmless joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett-Smith and that’s when Smith got up on the stage and slapped him. If that wasn’t bizarre enough, Smith went on to win the Best Actor award and the night went on like nothing had happened.
The whole internet was outraged by Smith’s action and he even attempted to apologize to the comedian and his fans but the damage had already been done.

It has been almost two years since veteran actor Will Smith slapped comedian and actor Chris Rock during the live telecast of the 94th Academy Awards (or Oscars). The world has indeed moved on quite a bit since that time. However, a majority of people still remember the infamous Oscar Slap Incident.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys: Ride or Die
With Will Smith and Martin Lawrence teaming up once again for the fourth part of their iconic Bad Boys franchise, things are about to get crazy. With the film on the verge of release, the first screening of Bad Boys: Ride or Die got a little crazy!

Omg, it's finally happened.
Adam Sandler fans are getting a Happy Gilmore 2, nearly 30 years in the making.
The sequel of the 1996 hit comedy is a dual project between Netflix and Happy Madison Productions, Sandler's company.
Sandler hooked a generation of viewers with his crass, blue-collar character infiltrating one of the most white-collar sports.
With his anger management issues and working-class mannerisms, we felt like he was one of us. And we couldn't help but root for him to win.
Happy Gilmore couldn't cut it as a hockey player, but it turned out he was hellah good at golf -- with a custom hockey stick golf club.
And fans loved him, turning golf into a spectator sport that drew all the wrong crowds.
At least, that's how Shooter McGavin -- played by Christopher McDonald -- felt. He tried so hard to earn that gold jacket, only to lose it to a scuzzy amateur golfer wannabe.

After years of resisting any shift into live sports, Netflix has finally punted and will now stream two NFL games on Christmas Day beginning this year.
It’s a major coup for Netflix, even if the games are on a Wednesday — so get ready for Tbd announcers to read a lot of “Wednesday” promos. Netflix will also get at least one game around the holidays for both 2025 and 2026. There’s no way around it now: Netflix has live sports.
Netflix would never put it this way, but the money the streamer is spending on these games is something it would’ve previously spent elsewhere, perhaps on say…a movie?
Spencer Wang, Netflix’s VP of finance, investor relations, and corporate development, said at the Moffett Nathanson conference this morning that Netflix is spending on the NFL package about what it costs the streamer to make a mid-budget movie. Wang added...

NFL games on Netflix in a deal announced earlier today will each cost the streamer about the same as one mid-sized film, said Spencer Wang, VP Finance, Ir and Corporate Development.
The company, whi ch has been pushing into sports and live events, nabbed the rights to a doubleheader on Christmas day 2024 and will carry at least one holiday game over the next three years. Financial details weren’t disclosed. The Wjs said Netflix will pay about $75 million a game this year. “I would characterize each game as roughly the size of one of our medium-sized original films,” Wang said during a Q&a at MoffettNathanson’s annual media conference.
“I would say it’s a very manageable cost” that fits within the streamer’s exiting content spend, pegged at about $17 billion this year.
“It’s a big day, exciting news for us,” he said.

What exactly is BASEketball anyway? If you’re a child of a certain era, you know exactly what it is. If not, well, let me explain. In the late nineties, the hottest comic duo was no doubt Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Together, they had charted a unique path to stardom. Two University Of Colorado grads, the two had their beginnings in the early nineties when they made a micro-budget indie called Cannibal: The Musical, which, despite failing to get into the Sundance Film Festival, became kind of a calling card for them. It got them a unique job directing a corporate film about Universal Pictures for Seagrams, who were acquiring the company, thanks to the patronage of David Zucker, one of the directors behind The Naked Gun, Top Secret and Airplane, who was a fan of their movie. They parlayed their success into a low-budget comedy called Orgazmo, which...

Okay, imagine it’s 2022 again and the slap that took over the internet for months and got memed dozens of times is making a comeback. But unfortunately, it’s not and Chris Rock was reportedly too “shook” to re-enact the infamous slap that was heard around the world.
Jerry Seinfield – Opens Up About Wanting Chris Rock To Parody The Oscars Slap
During a recent interview on the “Fly on the Wall” podcast, Seinfield reportedly revealed that he had asked Chris Rock to parody the Oscars slap on his directorial debut ‘Unfrosted,’ but that the comedian turned the offer down.

As much as Will Smith wanted Chris Rock to keep his wife’s name out his f*ckin’ mouth, the comedian wanted to lay as low as possible after The Slap. That included turning down good friend Jerry Seinfeld’s offer to appear in Unfrosted — primarily because his cameo would have spoofed that infamous Oscar moment.
As Jerry Seinfeld revealed on the Fly on the Wall podcast, he reached out to Chris Rock to let him get some remote revenge. “The other thing I wanted to do, that I almost did, was Chris Rock was gonna be the emcee of the Bowl and Spoon Awards. We shot that right after the Will Smith slap, and I was gonna have somebody come up on the stage and have Chris punch them out…Chris wasn’t…he wasn’t up to perform. Jerry Seinfeld wanted Chris Rock to parody Will Smith slapping him at the 2022 Oscars for his Netflix movie Unfrosted.
While appearing on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s podcast Fly on the Wall this week, Seinfeld said he initially wanted to cast Rock in the role as the host of the Bowl & Spoon Awards, which eventually went to Cedric the Entertainer.
“We shot that right after the Will Smith slap,” Seinfeld said. “I was going to have somebody come up on the stage and have Chris punch ’em out as they got there.”
However, Rock “wasn’t up to perform” the parody of the incident. “He was a little shook from that event,” Seinfeld explained. “That was what that scene was going to be, but Cedric saved the day.”

Comedian turned filmmaker Jerry Seinfeld has been courting controversy of late with some of his seemingly glib opinions and comments in the run-up to the promotion of his Netflix Pop-Tarts movie, “Unfrosted” (read our review). Seinfeld already rattled some with some seemingly flippant comments, proclaiming “the movie business being over” and how the “extreme left” was ruining the state of TV and comedy. A major element of his new movie “Unfrosted”—about creating the Pop-Tart and the cereal brand company war and race to get to market first—was an avalanche of famous comedian cameos populating the streaming comedy.

Unfrosted’s Bowl and Spoon Awards almost had art imitate life, Jerry Seinfeld has revealed.
Seinfeld originally asked Chris Rock to host his movie’s faux awards show. The idea was to give Rock a moment of redemption from the infamous Will Smith Oscars attack on him.
“The other thing I wanted to do, that I almost did, was Chris Rock was gonna be the emcee of the Bowl and Spoon Awards,” Seinfeld said on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast. “We shot that right after the Will Smith slap, and I was gonna have somebody come up on the stage and have Chris punch them out.”
Unfrosted wound up casting Cedric the Entertainer as the awards show host. “Chris wasn’t … he wasn’t up to perform. He was still a little shook from the event,” Seinfeld said. “But that was what the scene was going to be.

Jerry Seinfeld revealed during a recent interview on the “Fly on the Wall” podcast (via People) that he wanted Chris Rock to parody the infamous Oscars slap in his feature directorial debut “Unfrosted,” which recently premiered on Netflix. Tom Brady may be the greatest of all time, but his roast wasn’t. The thing is, it maybe could have been.
Netflix is all about eventizing these days, and probably the easiest way to do that — outside of sports rights — is live programming. Sunday’s “The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady,” had plenty of sports and too much live-ness for its own good.
The roast began at 8 p.m. Et/5 p.m. Pt, and proceeded to run, non-stop, for more than three hours. Never have commercials on Netflix been more needed. Or a video editor.
What was the point of doing this live? The danger, sure, but roasts are dangerous by their very nature. Live makes it an even thinner tightrope, we get that, but at what expense? The answer: enjoyment.

Netflix’s live special of The Roast of Tom Brady was expected to hit off with a blast, and so it did. You know John Mulaney’s six-part comedy special is gonna be really star-studded when Netflix’s PR team writes, “There will be more guests as well but we are tired of listing them. We have given you enough information already,” in their pitch email.
On Tuesday, the streaming service announced a new cohort of celebrity guests — including musical ones such as Weezer, Los Lobos, St. Vincent, Flea, and Beck — that will join Mulaney during his Everyody’s in L.A. run of live shows early next month. Also making appearances...

Denzel Washington is unarguably one of the best actors and personality as a whole that the entertainment industry could ever be gifted with. Not only is he one of the most respectable celebrities in all of Hollywood, he is also one of the most widely commended actors of all time. If anything, he doesn’t hesitate to speak his mind and act his heart out.
Denzel Washington in The Tragedy of Macbeth.
That being said, he also aimed to break one long-standing stereotype about him while working on his 2001 thriller-crime masterpiece with Ethan Hawke, Training Day. According to what Hawke shared during an interview, even when people tried to stop him, Washington stayed on his decision to prove that he could play a bad guy and still be a role model by “being great at my job.”

Ethan Hawke reveals what Denzel Washington said to him the night Hawke lost his ‘Training Day’ Oscar
The year was 2002 and Ethan Hawke was up for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his work in “Training Day.” When Marcia Gay Harden read Jim Broadbent’s name, winning for “Iris,” Hawke’s co-star Denzel Washington whispered something in his ear.
It wasn’t “boom!” As Hawke revealed in a recent interview, Washington – who had already won an Oscar for “Glory” and would win a second that very night – said, “It’s better that you didn’t win. Losing was better.”
Hawke, who would go on to get three more Oscar nominations for acting (“Boyhood”) as well as screenwriting, expanded what Washington meant. “You don’t want an award to improve your status. You want to improve the award’s status,” he said. “That’s the way he thinks. That’s what I’m talking about playing with Babe Ruth. The Academy Award has more power, because Denzel has a couple.

The beloved sitcom Seinfeld was famously never canceled, because co-creator Jerry Seinfeld and his fellow cast members decided they should walk away after nine seasons, leaving viewers wanting more. But for about a decade, Seinfeld has continuously complained that “political correctness” is stifling comedy of the kind that made him a household name and fabulously wealthy.
As long ago as 2015 — right around when our contemporary ideas of “cancel culture” were beginning to take shape on social media — Seinfeld was talking about not playing college campuses for fear of students labeling his material racist or sexist.

Ayesha Curry, entrepreneur, cookbook author, and wife of NBA superstar Steph Curry, isn’t afraid to speak her mind. But one past public appearance left a sour taste in her mouth. In 2019, Curry made a guest appearance on Jada Pinkett Smith’s talk show, “Red Table Talk”.
A still from Irish Wish
The show, known for its candid discussions about relationships and personal struggles, seemed like a perfect fit for Curry to open up. However, what unfolded after the filming wasn’t what Curry expected. She almost felt betrayed after her comments came out entirely different after the final editing of the interview.
