The joy of liberation, however, is overshadowed for him by the fact that his wife has not waited for him. He is dispatched to the front line as a political officer. In tracing his personal fate the authors have created an epic picture about the participation of Bulgarian army in the last stages of war and the final defeat of Nazi Germany on the battlefields of Yugoslavia and Hungary. Against the background of the impressive battle scenes the film focuses on the complex relationships between the numerous characters, reflecting the social and political contradiction in Bulgaria in the end of the war, we see former career officers who are attempting to sabotage the work of military command. Gradually Antoni overcomes his initial confusion and becomes used to the parapsychological states of the girl. He penetrates her acutely sensitive inner world where the supernatural becomes natural and the impossible possible. And when he learns that Dorotea can fly, he joins her and flies with her. During this experiment he feels a surge of creativity and happiness for the first time in many years. Is all this real or imaginary? Embarrassed, as he is, he leaves on a short trip, and when finally resolved to come back to her, it is too late. - DirectorBorislav SharalievStarsVladimir SmirnovMladen MladenovTania MassalitinovaBoev, an enthusiastic form master, is trying hard to establish rapport with his final-year students. His frankness, buoyancy and good nature soon make him a universal favorite. The only one who does not approve of him is headmaster who loves his job, but is not aware of how dated his own views are and cannot understand the young teacher. Apart from this, Boev comes in into particularly sharp conflict with his colleague and childhood chum Kiril who is consumed by jealousy and the ambition to get promoted quickly. He is consciously adapting himself to the headmaster's dogmatic views thereby losing the trust of his students. Two conflict views of the teacher-student relationship clash against the background of school routine and in the electrified atmosphere on the eve of the graduation ball. One is the narrow, purely educationalist approach which does not teach the students anything about human nature, while the other maintains that they should receive a much broader training which should prepare them to cope with real-life situation as thinking adults.
- DirectorBorislav SharalievStarsStefan DanailovBoris LukanovAneta PetrovskaThe picture features the life and deeds of Boris I - strong historic personality, which completes his mission to the full and at the end of his life receives holy orders. Prince Boris I is ruling in the late 9th century. In his youth, he, the brilliant statesman and diplomat, is experiencing heavy defeats in the wars he wages against his neighbors. Nonetheless, he manages not to cede any territories to the enemies. Under his rule, Bulgaria breaks with paganism and joins the Christian community, paying an exorbitant price, a heavy death toll, but there is no other way. The adoption of Christianity in 864 was a historical event of great significance. It guaranteed Boris I much need peace with the Eastern Roman Empire and allowed him to merge the numerous tribes inhabiting the country into a unified nationality and later to found a state. Boris I introduced the Slav script, thus turning Bulgaria into the cradle of Slav culture. Stiff resistance, however, met his actions. The former pagan, now Christian king was forced to crush it. Almost half of the then privileged aristocracy - 52 Bulgarian families - were mercilessly killed. Guided solely by his great ambitions Boris blinded and imprisoned his first-born son Vladimir-Rasate who dared against him and instead crowned his youngest son Simeon. It was during his reign that the Golden Age of Bulgarian culture began. This is an epic work dealing with the spiritual ups and downs of a nation and the drama of a great statesman.
- DirectorLudmil StaikovStarsStefan GetsovGeorgi Georgiev-GetzGeorgi CherkelovIn September 1923 a "red" uprising in Bulgaria is crushed and drowned in blood. A year and a half later a bomb planted by left-wing terrorists explodes in the St Nedelya Church in Sofia where the cream of society has gathered. One hundred and fifty people are killed and three hundred sustain serious injuries. The Tsar and some government ministries escape because their arrival in church is delayed. In an atmosphere of unbridled "white" terror a large number of left thinking people get blacklisted by the police. The failure of the attempt on the life of Tsar provides a pretext for further atrocities. The passing of the iniquitous State Defense Act is a prelude to latter-day St Bartholomew's Day Massacre, unprecedented in twentieth-century Europe. The extremely complex political situation caused certain ultra-left forces to resort to individual terrorism. While examining the reasons for this erroneous decision, the filmmakers denounce the social system and policies, which led to terror. The facts forming the basis of the story afford a number of parallels with certain contemporary events in the world.

- StarsNaum ShopovBoris LukanovLyubomir MladenovThe film transports us to the time of White Terror of 1923-1925 when the fascist regime of Alexander Tzankov assassinated thousands of progressive people in Bulgaria. The list of those who 'disappeared without trace' includes members of the Communist Party, but also liberal intellectuals such as the journalist Yossif Herbst, the member of Parliament Todor Strashimirov, brother of the famous writer Anton Strashimirov, the poets Geo Milev and Hristo Yasenov and many teachers and artists. The film opens with the following inscription:" The resemblance to real people is not coincidental. The names and events are not imaginary.' This is a documentary evidence, presented in artistic terms, about the heinous crimes in Bulgaria during the 1920s. In 1953 the remains were discovered of several people who had been killed without charge or trial. The assassins were brought to trial. Each crime is associated with a separate retrospective line. The individual case histories fit into a larger picture of a period in Bulgarian history that has been branded with infamy.

Torn out of his natural environment and left bewilderingly rootless, this good man cannot adapt himself to the urban way of life. He does not like the mayonnaise he is offered, does not know how to use the lift. The people hurrying in the streets seem to him indifferent, and some even sly and deceitful. Death is the only possible solution to the tragic conflict of this peasant, crucified between the archaic and the modern, and unable to adapt to the urban lifestyle.

- DirectorEduard ZaharievStarsMariana DimitrovaGrigor VachkovVelko KynevThere were times when stealing girls in these lands has been a worthy vocation, was a habit and a sort of custom in Bulgaria. Only the strongest and most experienced men took the profession up. A young and brave Bulgarian highlander was given the job to bring, no matter how, a certain beautiful girl to be married to somebody. Such a lad was Banko, the main character in movie. The film traces the vicissitudes of Banko. He has made a bargain to ambush and abduct the pretty Elitza and deliver her to the man who wants to marry her. The kidnapping is a success in the beginning, but the girl, Elitza, reveals a "manly" character. She puts up a stiff resistance. She fights against being taken to the weak-willed, stupid groom, who believes that the money can buy him everything. In the beginning she implores him to set her free and then threatens to jump into a ravine. At first Banko, who has become used to submissiveness of his victim, is taken aback by this sort of reaction, which runs counter to the established norms of a patriarchal code of conduct. Ultimately Banko and Elitza fall in love. This leads to the most dramatic and tragic events in their lives. His confusion evolves into a conflict between the call of duty and his emerging love for Elitza. To Banko this love, which seems to be reciprocated by his victim, is tantamount to the breaking of his word of honor. He runs the gauntlet of desire, suffering and doubt, and sees his profession in a different light. This is a film about the dawning of understanding in an unencumbered primitive mind, a turning point in the development of Eduard Sachariev who in his subsequent films has proceeded to examine the role of love as a motive force of man's surviving for freedom.

- DirectorRangel VulchanovStarsLyubomir BachvarovSonya BozhkovaAlexander PritupBefore going on leave an experienced magistrate assigns to his assistant a case that has been all but concluded. Everything has been proved. The facts are clear: a brutal murder has been committed. The suspect is a young, beautiful girl, who does not deny or remorse the murder. The only thing that remains to be done is to refer the case to the public prosecutor's office. The case is rather strange though. The murdered man had been a criminal blackmailer; the murderess is a timid girl of 17. The young magistrate tries to discover certain vital truth concealed beneath the obvious facts. The girl has pleaded guilty and the bulk of evidence is against her. The only question that has not been answered concerns the motive of the crime. The detective carefully questions the girl to find her real motives. From her story he learns that the girl is real victim. She arrived from the country and due to her naivety ended up in the apartment of a sexual maniac. Locked there for days and subject to sexual harassments, the girl views the ax she finds on the balcony as the only solution. The detective has to take the law into consideration, but he understands the girl and tries to extenuate the sentence.

- DirectorGeorgi DjulgerovStarsPlamen MaslarovElena MirtchofskaAsen KisimovThe action takes place during one day - 9.09.1944. This is the day when Bulgaria leaves the Axis coalition and joins Allies. The supporters of Germany are still fighting back. The partisan detachments are coming soon from the mountains. The film's young protagonist Mustafa is one of them. He will have to answer for himself important moral questions which the revolution asks of every man. He should decide for himself where exactly the boundary between justified and unjustified violence lies. This is the longest day in Mustafa's life - the day of his coming of age. On this day he experiences his first doubt. Mustafa remembers a night when they had orders to kill a political instigator but his friend Matey killed his child by mistake. Matey receives a light sentence but his guilty conscience makes him commit suicide. Another young boy joins the troupe and receives his name. He acts without questioning orders and without displaying doubt. One of his tasks is to carry out the execution of a group of arrested men after the coup. Mustafa is also there. He administers justice and feels himself unjustly punished by the death of his closest friend. On this same day he falls in love with the young partisan fighter Pshenichka and is separated from her because the enemy will shoot and kill him. The ending is a mournfully poetic - a ballad of the dark times the characters have lived.

- DirectorBinka ZhelyazkovaStarsKosta TsonevYanina KashevaKliment DenchevThe story begins with a serious disillusionment experienced by a young girl at her school-leaving farewell ball. Apostol, an architect on this side of forty, meets by chance Bella at a swimming pool on the night of her graduation party. The generation gap is a wide one, but Bella falls sway to his intelligence, friends, his life-style and the respect everybody shows for her. Boyan is an actor and comic impersonator. The complex relationships among the three characters hover between friendship and love and involve certain professional motifs. The architect, an even-tempered man, is dispirited because the bold design decisions he has been taking have been regularly rejected. The overly playful actor surrounded by dummies and stage-pros, builds his life exclusively on outer effects. But deep inside he is sad because he knows that he has no real talent. Bella, unexpectedly mature for her age, cannot remain indifferent to the falsehoods and the indifferent attitude to life. She is in conflict with her own mother - a shallow television journalist. Bella's unconscious protest finds its real bearings only when she gets a glimpse of anti-fascist past of the architect who is already infatuated with her. At the end, she marries his best friend, Boyan, though Apostol would be the most important person in her lifetime. The film is notable for the vivid symbolism of its imagery. The swimming pool is not only the place of the action but also a metaphor of human life.
- DirectorDimitar PetkovStarsSamuel FinziStefka YanorovaAna PapadopuluThe story begins with a prayer. And it ends with a prayer. The first one is a prayer to God. The second - to the Devil. Between the two prayers is Pavel - a talented, chaotic and irresponsible musician and composer. Everything is wonderful until the day he realizes he has lost the girl he loves. In order to win her love back, Pavel is ready to do anything - even pray to the Devil. When one prays to God, one relies on His mercy. When one prays to the Devil, this is a deal. You can ask for whatever you want and you have to offer something in exchange. And there is only one pawn in the Devil's game...
