- The planet Prysmos - post-technological loss. Two groups rise to dominance from the devastation to wage war upon each other. One is controlled by honest and law-abiding people and the other by criminals and villains. Following an open challenge thrown down by the great wizard Merklynn, fourteen surviving knights are granted powers of transformation and magical energy. The groups are now divided between the good Spectral Knights and the evil Darkling Lords. The battle for supremacy begins...
- In a future decimated by war, only a small band of humans survive. The radiation from the war has created many new species, including huge, semi-intelligent dragons and evil mutants. The only source of power is the volcanic stone amber, but locating it is a constant problem, with the mutants and other species laying claim to their finds. Without the amber, their floating city cannot stay afloat. Protecting the city is an elite group using the dragons as transport, the Dragon Flyz.

- Dreadwing has Gangrin create a mind-controlling device, and uses it on the Dragon Flyz' dragons. The group is ambushed during an amber retrieval, and again even when no one except Aaron knows their location. Then the dragons turn on their riders, unable to fight Dreadwing's orders to attack them. Apex and Z'nith have to race against time to find Dreadwing so she can use the machine's power to channel her telepathy into the dragons' minds and free them from Dreadwing's grip.
- After returning to Warnado from a journey, Dreadwing sees Blackheart sicken from a mutated insect near the lava pool he was drinking from. Gangrin identifies the problem and is appointed to protect the Dark Draman's dragons from the insects, them send them with the creatures to lure the Dragon Flyz away from Airlandis then retreat so their dragons will be infected. They are determined to arrive at Warnado, even on rambunctious young dragons, and access the antidote to heal them so Airlandis won't be vulnerable to an attack, but Dreadwing has no intention of letting them do this.
- After a battle with Dramen in a dessert, the Dragon Flyz actually encounter a man, who can remember nothing but his name, Cifex. He is taken to Airlandis and forms a bond with Apex. But when they investigate the building he emerged from to see how he survived on Earth and if anyone else remains, Z'nith and Summit discover he is not what he seems. And Dreadwing attacks and captures both Apex and Cifex, whom he hopes to exploit.
- Gangrin stumbles on a mutated amber crystal that grows uncontrollably when exposed to light, and he and Dreadwing leave it lying around in a cave for the Dragon Flyz to find and take to Airlandis. The next morning, it sweeps out from the generator room, trapping people in its path and weighing the city down so it begins falling. Dreadwing and his Dark Dramen also attack while the Dragon Flyz are struggling to save everyone else, and they are uncertain of how to stop it since Aaron never got to finish the word before he and his library were crystallized over.
- During a mission with the Dragon Flyz, Dram sees a Draman village recently destroyed by Dark Dramen just as his own was by Kreigo when he was a boy before Aaron took him in. The others reluctantly leave him to get amber while he seeks out the enslaved survivors, but he is captured and forced to fight the Dark Draman leader Vydac in a lose-lose situation, while the captives cannot see the value of fighting even in self-defense.
- A space station gives a distress call before crash-landing on Earth. The Dragon Flyz go to investigate but Dreadwing and Nocturna race them to it so they can capture the technology. They succeed in grabbing the recording of where the evacuated crew was headed, but Dreadwing faces another enemy, a Dark Draman named Kreigo. After fighting, they agree to unify to conquer Airlandis, and the Dragon Flyz have to deal with them both and reclaim the satellite's information.
- In the 50th century, Airlandis, the floating city where the surviving humans of the Cataclysm a millennium before live in shelter from the evil mutant Dark Dramen populating the lava- and heath-covered Earth, is held aloft by its generator run by purple "amber" crystals stored by the dragonators who fly the nuclear war's other resultant species. When the latest crystal proves ineffective, their leaders the Dragon Flyz, Z'nith, Summit, Apex, and Peak, children of the previous generation's dragonator Aaron, set out to find replacements. While trying to seize two crystals, Peak's dragon Wing Storm drops him, and he is captured by the lead mutant Dreadwing. He is hung over a lava-pit to trap his siblings and Dram, a Draman friend, when they come to rescue him...if they can even get past Dreadwing's female accomplice Nocturna, the weapons provided by his scientist Gangrin, and the Dark Draman Fryte and his soldiers.
