DIDGERIDOO
With fine sensitivity Ahmed Radwan projects the musicians with their didgeridoos into the traditional landscape of Austria, thus creating a documentary metaphor for the Australian home of the instrument.
The unique sounds of this instrument are created through an extraordinary breathing technique - known as circular breathing. How this technique works is explained in detail in this film. But cultural aspects are not neglected either. For example, the first didgeridoo lessons in a Viennese high school started several years ago with great commitment from teachers and students.
"Didgeridoo" is a journey through the sound worlds of this great instrument, from its origins in Australia to its spread in Europe. The film testifies that traditional instruments find their justification far beyond their original musical forms - in any time, any place and in any musical style. One more reason why "Didgeridoo" should not be missing in any video archive.
