Barry's Song
Ben Krolick's student film 'Barry's Song' tells the story of one man and his deep love of music.
Written, designed and animated by Ben, the story sees Barry at home, coming across a forgotten song amongst his old records. We see Barry admiring the vinyl, and lovingly lowering the record onto a turntable. He gently places the needle on to the disc, sits down and awaits the memories of times gone by to fill the room.
The film for Ben, was the culmination of the two year online animation course 'Animation Mentor' from Berkeley, California. Working part time, Ben took almost a year to produce the film. Taking three months to write, storyboard and layout the film, Ben then built Barry's world and all the props, and creating just the right mood with lighting and texturing. Animating and editing the piece took nearly four more months. Once the animation was completed, a single home computer, working twenty four hours a day for nearly five months, rendered the individual final frames.
The climax of the film is the song, produced by Peter Kinski, with rights kindly provided by Valentines Music Ltd., and Eurovox Music NV. The final sound design and foley work was created by Ben 'Fat Trucker' Rymer.
