AVIATRIX 2017 Paris R&D by Olivia Furber
Aviatrix (in development) is a multi-media performance, part-gig, part-cinema, part-theatre which examines the barriers to movement and absence of rights to travel freely in the 21st century. Bringing together a selection of artists whose collaboration defies geographical co-ordinates, Aviatrix takes a microscope to the now fragmented landscape that pioneering pilot Amy Johnson saw from above.
An actor, Ramzi, boards a plane to London to perform in a theatrical production commemorating the life of pioneering British aviator, Amy Johnson. Whilst mid-flight the British government impose a ban on upon citizens of certain nations from entering, and Ramzi is on the list.
Immediately detained upon landing and seen through the glass of a one way mirror he attempts to perform his scenes from within the confines of his cell. Until, fed-up, thirsty and bored, he offers a new, more personal perspective on the original script.
