Totally overrated and a complete waste of time
7 January 2015
I usually don't comment on movies I didn't like, but after seeing the rating of this movie, I couldn't stop myself. The only interesting thing about this movie is, that it was shot over 12 years. Considering that the whole movie was shot on 45 days, they filmed about 4 days each year. That alone tells you a lot about this movie. The director didn't do anything special. And the story is boring. Nothing happens. Movies are supposed to give the audience some kind of emotions. To feel sad, excited, to be scared or to laugh. None of that happens. This movie is a total waste of time. Take a look out of your window and watch birds fly or people walk by is more exciting believe me. I wouldn't even give this movie 1 star, but there is nothing less available.

Very good shooting but poor story!
14 November 2009
I was very interested in this movie, because it seemed like a Turkish propaganda movie. After all this American propaganda movies I was excited about a Turkish one. The film is about a soldier unit up on a mountain top, defending it against the PKK terrorist organization. It starts very well, very good acting and tough. It revealed real moments of military service and the truth about the danger up their. The shooting and screening is perfect. Didn't expect to see this level of quality in a Turkish movie, but the story, which started very good, ends very bad. After the first half of the movie, it shows too much of the captains emotions. Even though the goal of this movie is to show the emotional side of the soldiers, but this was just too much and it ruined the whole movie. This could have been just a perfect Turkish movie. The director tried to implement several messages to the Turkish - pkk conflict, saying we're all the same etc. but in one point it got unreal. Very good work, but still not good enough. Worth seeing though!

The Departed (2006)

What if it hadn't been Scorsese?
10 September 2008
I watched this movie last night and before all I have to say, that I haven't seen Infernal Affairs, but I will as soon as possible.

Martin Scorsese is a great director. The directing in The Departed is great. Not his best but very good. The departed will never get close to Raging Bull or Goodfellas in my opinion.

When I watched the movie last night, I was very curious and excited. Before I watch movies I look at their ratings here at IMDb and mostly the ratings reflect my opinion. But this time the ratings got me all wrong. This movie is totally overrated.

The story starts very nice. You get excited, you get curious. You wanna know what happens next and it all your expectations just don't get realized.

Jack Nicholson is a great boss, but is he a big boss or a smaller one who still collects protection money? In the beginning they talk about microchips and you never know what happened to them. It doesn't make sense at all! Why do they want to get Castello when he only does small business? What about the ending? I thought Vanilla Sky or Secret Window had the worst endings ever but The Departed is not far away from them.

Maybe that is why I didn't like the movie. You don't get what you expect. And maybe if there was a better ending, you could remain blind to little inlogical contents of the script.

But it's not a good ending and I was really disappointed. The story is great. But the outwork is crap.

If you want to see good acting and perfect directing watch this film. But if you are into good story, nice messages and thrilling ends or twists... don't waste your time.

You won't forget it for a long time.

I lived in Germany for 14 years and while the wall was still standing we never cared about what was going on in the east.

German movies normally are not that good and that effective. This movie is one of the best movies in the past years. The story is simple but the messages it gives are messages which are tried to be given in so many movies, but never got this effective.

The acting by Ulrich Mühe is awesome. It's a shame he past away last year. While watching you will be stunned just by the acting of him. And the story is a masterpiece. Hats off to this movie.

Germans proofed me wrong with this movie and I hope to see more from them.

Cloverfield (2008)

Impressive

I watched this movie just yesterday and last night, when I closed my eyes I saw high buildings crashing. The director just fulfilled his idea. You feel like you found an amateur tape. This is one of the best monster movies. You don't see funny stuff, you don't see extra dramatic scenes and you don't really have music. It feels just real. You don't know where the monster came from and it's not important. You keep watching and feel the tribe. Nice directing, great acting and realistic story. Could have been more, but this is enough for a great monster movie. Get your room dark, sit back and enjoy.

If you have the DVD watch the making of and the alternate endings. It is amazing what you can do with computers... All you need is imagination. You always can go as far as you can imagine. Forget Godzilla or The hostel. This is the new monster everyone was waiting for.

Event one star is too much!
3 September 2008
I watched the movie a couple days ago with my family. After seeing several good Turkish movies I really expected something good, but this movie was a huge disappointment. The movie starts with a woman walking till the woman is out of sight. This scene takes almost 3 minutes and you already start to get bored. The whole movie is like this one scene. No story, no highlights, no hidden messages, no meaning. I watched the movie till the end, because I always watch movies till the end and I hoped that something is going to happen, but nothing came... I can't believe why this movie is got so many awards. Don't waste your time with this movie. I wish I had played scrabble with my family that evening. At least I would have the chance to learn one or two more words....

Every single quote...
24 March 2006
This movie is like a one hit wonder. It has the best quotes. Every artist is just on it's best and Mr. Kobayashi is the man under the men. He is cooler than anyone else before. Just cool and untouchable. Kevin Spacey is adorable. The scene with the line up is awesome and also the scene where they all get arrested at first. No one knows what will happen and again, the quotes are THE quotes! Mr. Hockney is so tough talking with the cops, but it's Keaton, who gets a punch in the face. I read the script and they made a lot of changes. This time, they are good changes. Respect to all who was a part in the movie.

Who ever thinks, that this movie is not a good one...i guess this person doesn't know anything about good movies and will find his own favorite movie under the worst movies ever.
