Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.: The Show Must Go On (1967)
Inspiring!
This end of this episode when Gomer loses his voice gives me chills and brings tear to my eyes . As a high school coach, I feel like the last 8 minutes of this episode would be great to show anyone - a soldier going in to battle, players going into a big game, a person facing a huge personal crisis - facing a huge challenge to inspire them. This is what we're missing in America today: people who overcome fear to do the right thing. We set it in schools, we've seen it in our government, we've seen it in sports, and, sadly, we've seen it our police force (look at the mass shooting in Uvalde). ..
M3GAN (2022)
Chucky meets The Terminator
Who knew a four foot AI doll could drive and beat the crap out of people like she's Arnold Schwarzenegger? The movie is really good until the doll gets smarmy and starts killing or attempting to kill everyone. It's not hard to tell that the creator of this movie was highly influenced by the movies Child's Play and The Terminator, and maybe a little bit by I-Robot.
The movie could have just as easily been titled "How to be a Bad Parent" because the main parental figures - especially the mom of the bully in the "alternative" school - definitely won't be winning any Parent of the Year awards. Come to think of it, hardly ANY characters in this movie are people that you can really cheer for.
World War One (1964)
Must-see documentary
If you're a teacher of history (like me) or just a history buff, you will love this documentary. This is the best documentary over The Great War that I've ever seen.
World War One: The Doomed Dynasties (1964)
Outstanding documentary
This entire documentary series is the best I've ever seen describing World War I. If, like me, you teach history, or if you're just a history buff, this is a must see. It will really give you some great incite on The Great War. This episode, the Doomed Dynasties, is outstanding, especially describing the family entanglements that led to the war. I often refer to many things in my lectures from what I learned in this series. If you want depth on what led to WWI, this episode is a must see. If I could buy the series, I would.
