Older (2020)
Great indie movie
I really enjoyed watching "Older". It´s about relationships and what to do when you get to a certain age. If you are at an age where you can relate to Alex, you will definitely enjoy the movie.
Aside from that, I think the crew does a really good job. Guy Pigden writes, directs and plays the protagonist. That´s 3 though jobs to do and the movie delivers.
Well done!
Banging Lanie (2020)
A funny indie movie
It´s a very bold and cool feature debut for Allison Powell. Well done for an actor, writer, producer and a director. A funny romantic comedy for the younger generation.
The story is about Lanie Burroughs, a young women who has found the guy she want´s to loose her virginity to. Hence resulting in a lot of awkward moments as she and the story develops.
I recommend this movie to young directors as well as people that are into the genre.
The Extraordinary Ordinary (2019)
A very interesting film
It´s about three young people and their struggles. On one hand, they seem normal and pursue their goals. On the other, they struggle with personal issues and the movie explores these issues quite well. Especially bipolar disorder.
It´s a very relevant film, taken our current crises with Covid-19 into consideration. Bipolar disorder is a subject that needs to me discussed more openly in the public domain. Especially now, while so many people have got their lives turned upside down.
I strongly recommend this movie... a big thumps up to the actors and crew.
The Painted Warrior (2019)
A hardcore doc about an inspiring athlete
It tells the story about Stephen Sinek, who is a an athlete and endures in obstacle racing. I have never heard about that sport before, but it´s sick. The challengers have to run through the Mesquite Valley and they have to endure through a lot of really hard challenges on the way.
The doc also focuses on the mental challenges in regards to being such an athlete and that´s really inspiring. Aside from that, Sinek has the support of his wife, who is the person that paints "The Painted Warrior".
Lastly, the film crew does a really good job too. So if you are into sports, what it takes to be an athlete in an extreme sport, you should really watch this awesome doc.
Turnover (2019)
Highly recommendable
A really heartwarming film with a diverse cast. I loved the story and I can only give a big thumps up to the actors and the crew.
The owner of a restaurant needs some time off due to health issues and the manager hires a lot of misfits to take care of the restaurant while the owner is away. Obviously, the misfits don´t fit together, but as time progresses, they find a balance and end up fitting quite well together.
I don´t want to spoil too much, but It´s funny and very emotional... it has a lot of love.
Curry Munchers (2011)
Watch this
A really funny movie with a lot of heart. The jokes are well crafted and if you are interested in comedy, you should really give yourself a treat with watching this one.
It´s an underdog story about a guy named Sid, who moves with his mother and sister from India to New Zealand to join his father. Adapting to a new culture with all the quirkiness that implies really makes " Vindaloo Empire" an enjoyable watch.
Highly recommendable.
Counterintelligence (2020)
A cool indie
I really enjoyed watching this movie. Laughed a lot and loved watching the actors. Aside from that, it was beautifully shot, edited and I loved the score.
It´s a story about Able who has to deliver a briefcase. He kidnaps Angela and it turns into an absurd ride with a lot turns and weird characters.
If you are into original and funny stories as well as indie´s, you should definitely check this one out.
The Stand Up Doll (2019)
An awesome and inspiring doc
Evelyne Tollman tells the story about 99 year old Risa Inglefeld. It´s an inspiring story about an European immigrant who has had a lot of obstacles in her life, being a young Jewish woman and have survived the Nazis during World War 2 before immigrating to the US.
Becoming 100 years old also has it´s challenges, Risa outlived her husband and both of her children. In spite of all her challenges, she has a great attitude towards life and it´s an inspiring doc to watch. I learned a lot and Evelyne Tollman covers many important humane subjects in this great documentary.
Highly recommendable.
Purdah (2018)
A really good documentary about 4 strong women from India
The documentary primarily focuses on Kaikasha Mirza, a young woman who is trying to become a professional cricket player. It depicts her struggles between chasing her dream as well as what is expected of her as a young women in her community.
Aside from Kaikasha Mirza´s struggles, we also get to know her family and their struggles. She has a strong mother, two sisters and a brother. It´s a really good documentary and it gives insight into the daily lives of a family that is strong and is there for each other.
Hence I strongly recommend this doc.
The Evil Down the Street (2019)
Creepy with a lot of suspense
The plot seems a bit familiar, people move into a new house and creepy things start to happen. I don´t want to say too much, but it´s based on a true story...
I rarely watch horror flicks, but this one kept me on the edge. If you are into indie and horror, you should really watch "The Evil Down the Street".
Sweet Sunshine (2020)
Inspiring with great music
I really enjoyed the story about TJ and Sunshine. They fight trough their obstacles and are really good at expressing themselves trough beautiful songs.
It is really inspiring and if you love country music, you should really see this film.
The Mentor (2020)
A cool indie
It´s dark comedy that´s set within the world of films. Cool actors and very well shot... and really funny if you are into dark comedy.
I really love that it´s shot in Oakland and lastly, it´s not just for film nerds.
The Berlin Bride (2019)
The Berlin Bride is a superb weird film
I don´t want to spoil it by writing what the plot is about, but it´s roughly about two guy´s, a mannequin, the mannequins arm... etc.. The story evolves in a weird way and it´s extremely fascinating and you accept the weird twists bit by bit. There isn´t much dialog and that´s a good thing, because the music is excellent.
It´s an updated American dubbed version of 1987´s "Concerto for the Right Hand" and it´s highly recommendable. If you want to see something different "The Berlin Bride" is the one to watch.
6 Weeks to Mother's Day (2017)
An awesome independant documentary
The story is about one of the unsung heroes of Thailand, Rajani Dhongchai. She has run The Children´s Village School in a jungle in Thailand for more than 3 decades.
It´s a real feel good story about a person that has dedicated her life in helping and teaching others. An inspirational story that is beautifully shoot, edited and directed, hence highly recommendable to people that are interested in this kind of stories as well as awesome craftsmanship from those involved in creating this documentary.
