The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Entertaining, great story, no agendas
Finally a movie that's just entertaining, no hidden messages no agendas, just watch, enjoy. Everything about this movie is enjoyable, classic story telling, graphics are great, story flows, follows the old. People probably don't remember Super Mario Brothers 2 but you could play as Peach, Toad etc as well.
In this day and age we need more movies like this
Great voice acting, reality is we didn't hear Mario's voice for the first time till much later, so the Italian vs not doesn't mean much to me or anyone else looking to be entertained which is what the purpose of Hollywood is, entertainment
10/10 hope Hollywood does more like this.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Star Trek reborn and done right, not like discovery
ST: P is pretty good, season 1 had some "wokeness" and "pc" innit but it was kinda light and allowed you to enjoy the rest of the series. Season 1 had a lot of good moments, but I found myself wanting to watch every episode. Overall season 1 I'd say is a 5/6 out of 10.
Starting with season 2, blew my mind, they seem to sit aside the modern day wokeness and they want to give us what Star Trek was, unlike discovery which is a complete unwatchable pile of crap now.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
The woke people hate it because they think words defeat
Actually entertaining, funny seeing the woke crowd downvoting it. I've seen all the originals, remember people, movies are meant to be entertaining, nothing more, people try to read into them.
The woke crowd, I'm sorry but what was shown was well done and keeps up with the time.
There's no other message here :P stop looking for it.
Kept to the original plots, idiot kids get killed.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
80s baby who has wanted this for a long time
80s baby here, I recall being a kid in a one channel tv household, the rare movie you did get to see was something you'd rent from the store, one of those first memories I had was Ghostbusters, everyone I knew dressed up as ghostbusters for Halloween for years after.
GB1 and GB2 were good, while 2 fell a little short against 1 it was still a great movie.
The all female cast ghostbuster came out and it felt more like a satire of ghostbusters, it was entertaining, it was fun, but I never watch it twice (annually, GB1 and GB2 are part of my annual movie list from the 80s and 90s).
Now we have afterlife, for 20 years there was rumours of Ramis and Ackroyd made a script to make a third and this movie takes some of those points is my understanding (never understood why GB3 wasn't done long ago while Ramis was a live, many of us millennials love returning to nostalgia, if it's done right).
Anyways:
Pros: nostalgia, call backs, references, ecto 1, all of it was great, the return of the originals (@billmurray thank you so much for returning, I know you didn't want to but thank you). The actors were good, special effects were good you name it
Cons: mostly the build up was slow but that's fine.
Worth watching? Yes, for everyone
Will I add it to my GB1 and 2 annual rewatch list? Yes :)
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Season 1-2 we're good and now wtf am I watching?
Season 1-2 was pretty good and I enjoyed the show, now season 3 and 4 I'm lost.
Why get so politically correct? Season 4 it's like watching HR give a seminar on all parties must agree and check peoples feelings.....fyi, I have my doubts running a galaxy would work that way so playing the political correct cards is just trash tv.
Painful to watch, the constant check on feelings stuff is sad and sickening. Pausing a battle to check each other's feelings?
Anyways, totally foolish now.
A Dog's Way Home (2019)
Great Feel Good Movie
Fun movie, good story, people over thinking it. Great for family (the lack of family movies this is filling a good spot). I took my younger half-sister, she enjoyed herself, I heard both adults and kids laughing, yes there's some serious scenes but it's also that lesson in life about bullies and how people overcome them. There's a single "PC" scene but it didn't bother an ultra-conservative like me because it was done well imo. Good movie, good message. Look at it for what it is, a feel good movie with a great happy ending.
