Scary and suspenseful....all the right elements.
6 May 2006
An American Haunting was very scary and suspenseful...in every way!! One of my favorite films in a long time. Under the direction of Courtney Solomon we see the great acting of Donald Sutherland, play John Bell, Sissy Spacek, who plays Lucy Bell, and the wonderful Rachel Hurd-Wood who plays Betsy Bell. I also would like to mention that the supporting acting of James D' Arcy and Matthew Marsh were also very truthful and helped further tell this great story. When you have a great story, and this is America's most documented Ghost story, you need to bring it to life and they really did it justice. I don't mean to sound skeptical....but I am when it comes to Hollywood, I'm not a fan of many projects, I'm a critic when it comes to entertainment. So a film like this comes along and I was hoping they would not ruin a great story a this Bell haunting...however I was surprised, impressed, and blown away all at the same time by this film. It's not often I feel this way...so if anyone should recommend An American Haunting it should be myself...now I'm a believer in this story....it's one that goes down in history.

Benny & Joon (1993)

Sweet love story at its best.
5 May 2006
A very sweet love story, about two people who never thought they would meet their match. June is a bit slow and lives with her older brother who helps take care of her. Benny is an eccentric man, misunderstood by many, funny, and playing his way through life. When the two have a chance encounter, they become intrigued by the other. Benny makes June laugh, and together the two teach each other about life. All the odds are against them and June's brother tries to stop their relationship. Sometimes love cannot be stopped and they overcome all the obstacles around them. A tear jerker, will make one laugh and cry. Johnny Depp is as always brilliant in his character work...and their is much truth in this story. A must see if you have not already.....you won't be disappointed.

Amazing movie!!

Based on the successful play this film gathered an ensemble of some of the most talented actors and actresses of our time, which includes Sissy Spacek, Sam Shepard, Tess Harper, Diane Keaton, and Jessica Lange. Taking place in the south, we follow the story of a family's relationship and how they are dealing with their sister shooting her husband. With the strong female cast we can't help but to feel their pain through their emotions, relationship with each other, and how they deal with life. Great strong character choices, yet sisters with something even greater in common....love of family, and loyalty. There are many lessons to learn in this film and one of the most important is you can't turn your back on your family, even when you run away they will be there for you. The acting is superb, the honesty is great and in all a wonderful film to see. A true classic and if you haven't seen the play, read it or rented it.....do it now...you won't be disappointed.

Sideways (2004)

Great film...good times will be had by all.

Sideways If you haven't seen this film yet...you must go rent it now....and pick up a bottle of pinot noir to enjoy while you watch. It's so refreshing to just watch real people living their lives and having real conversations with each other. The acting was superb and very truthful. This film is about relationships, enjoying life and good wine. If you don't know much about wine you might learn a bit from this film...it makes me want to drive through wine country and go tasting. Each of the main characters goes through a major change and as we follow them on their journey....we care more and more about their lives. This film made me think about relationships, love, going after what you want, and sometimes we need to go Sideways instead of always going forward. Isn't a good film just like a good relationship...we want to learn, laugh, and not feel like we are wasting our time. This movie gets my vote of a 9 out of 10.
