Oppenheimer (2023)
disappointing
"A Masterpiece?" Not for me. I'm glad I didn't buy it. Years ago I concluded that I should read what the critics say and believe the opposite. The same goes for a highly rated movie. If you are already familiar with the story and history, as I am, you may be able to follow it, but it takes some effort. There is too much jumping back and forth in time, so there is no real chronology, which makes it hard to follow, nor is there continuity. Critics might praise it but they are not looking at it as a general viewer. Rather than portray him as a physicist and tell you how he developed his theories, the film goes more into his private life than necessary. Very little time is devoted to the actual physics side, which would have made it more interesting.
The biggest let-down, as with so many U. S. movies, is the endless, unnecessary background music; mumbling actors; semi-whispered dialogue and at times, irritating foul language.
Megalodon: The Frenzy (2023)
insult to intelligence
This and 'The Rising' are about the worst films I've seen, even 50s B movies were better. Writers of absolute rubbish like this have no idea on how to give each 'actor/actress' character, they all sound the same, shouting, over-dramatic dialogue, broken, clipped sentences. When a couple of women got together in praise of each other, it descended into a mutual admiration society. Drippy! Where is a bucket to catch all the syrup running out of the TV? The CGI was hopeless and there is a total lack of research into how the navy operates. How come we have a young-ish woman in charge of a battleship? PC forever! And ship names - US battleships (obviously IOWA class) were named after states; USS KING ? And who came up with that ridiculous name FRAGASSO? How much longer are US movie makers going to inflict such crimes against entertainment on us?
Megaboa (2021)
insulting rubbish
Script: appalling. Plot: unbelievable. Acting: worse than amateurish. 'special' effects: laughable. Suspense and horror: non-existent. Characters: hysterical women trying to be in charge, men clueless as usual in this type of throw-away movie.
An insult to the intelligence. How much longer must we put up with tripe like this?
Wunderland (2018)
What battle?
This was a showcase for two actors and a few in a 'supporting cast'. It bears no resemblance to the actual event, and it would leave a viewer unfamiliar with the war thinking that the repetitious firefights were all the battle was about. Where was the 'Bulge?' Recommendation? Watch the 60s version with Robert Shaw.
The Innkeepers (2011)
Boring
Too slow. The few moments that there were hints of horror didn't lead to anything, and when the apparent climax was reached, you are left guessing as to what the 'ghost' did and what happened to Claire. Too many films these days lack a proper theme or outcome and this is one. Disappointing.
Lost in the Pacific (2016)
Terrible, a crime against entertainment
With everything digitised it was impossible to tell if there were any real "actors/actresses" at all. Jurassic Park type films show what can be done, but if this is an example of the future of movie-making, then God help the movie industry. Vincent Zhou - maybe the whole Chinese movie industry - should be banned from ever inflicting trash like this on the public. The box picture and write-up give a false impression of what this pathetic disaster of a film is about. As for the "script", a 5-year-old could have written it better. The opening dialogue on the "airliner" was so full of smarmy mutual-admiration-society OTT praise I wanted to throw up. The only bit of realistic "acting" was at the very beginning. Cheap excuses for entertainment like this make even 1950s B-movies look worth an Oscar. At least they had real human beings in them!
