Elemental (2023)
A typical Pixar film a deeper meaning packaged in an enjoyable movie.
Firstly, I have to address the comments that suggest this film has already been done. Comparing this film to Zootopia and inside out is fine. But don't pretend they are the same. The colours have similarities with inside out and the setting may resemble Zootopia slightly. However, that is where most similarities end.
This film can stand proudly on it's own, with a unique story about immigration. That also nods at disability in some areas. It has done a beautiful job of addressing serious topics. Without tiptoeing around them, but also making it easy to digest.
Can't recommend this film enough!
Motherland: Fort Salem (2020)
Can't understand all the bad reviews
I really enjoy this show. It has such unique ideas and brilliant plot. I love the history of what they show. It has a really interesting take on witches, my favourite so far. The acting is incredible and perfect for the young adult genre. They do a brilliant job and give these characters justice. It makes for a very immersive show. Love it! Cannot understand how people are so hateful about it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but don't be disrespectful to the hard work that has gone into making the show.
Fate: The Winx Saga (2021)
Winx lover and I loved it
This reminded me a little of shadow hunters. But don't get caught up In that as it is quite different. I remember watching the winx cartoon when I was younger. I loved it but this adaptation is perfect for the people who probably watched it when younger. I was worried it would be cliche but fear not. The character development and plot development is amazing.
One criticism would be that it was a little fast. However trying to fit so much into 6 episodes would feel like that. Hopefully they can spread it out more in season 2!
Fingers crossed there will be a second series as I need my fill now I've finished watching.
Mulan (2020)
A pleasant surprise
I can't express enough how much I enjoyed this film. I love the more realistic aspect and more serious tone it sets in comparison to the animation. It was beautiful to watch. I highly recommend that people give it a chance. Go into it with the mindset that it's a different version than the animation.
Little Women (2019)
In love...
I don't know where to begin but I will start with, it is pure perfection. Couldn't have been done better. I felt every emotion throughout. It makes you feel and think and you finish the film left with a mind wandering. It made me feel and react. That's what film is about, provoking. This definitely did that no doubt about that. I highly recommend, it's now on my list of favourites.
6 Underground (2019)
How an action film should be done.
This has got to be one of my favourite action movies. The explosions and action mixed in with some comedy and a great storyline. Ryan Reynolds, Ben Hardy and Dave Franco really stood out to me. However all the parts were played fantastically. The characters are created to perfection. Music was also on point, chosen really well. My only criticism would be the odd mistake of the car not being scratched when it should be etc. Besides that I would also say the explosions were a bit over used. That's the only things that stopped it being a 10. Overall the movie is a must watch and one that I have already watched 3 times in one week. Yes I love it that much, I'm not even usually a huge fan of action. I highly recommend everyone giving it a watch!
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Sad 😔
The acting was brilliant and faultless. The filming and camera work was amazing. The screenplay and plot was so bad it made me sad that they ruined something that could have been so good. Parts of the film didn't even add up and there were back stories that should have been told and weren't. Useless pieces of information were put in for no reason. Time-wasting was happening left, right and centre. I'm saddened by the fact this could have been so amazing but it wasn't.
The Society (2019)
Love it
It's just so thought provoking and I love the characters. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.
After (2019)
It is cliche but I love that
I am yet to read the books but now really want to. I thought this film was really romantic and reminded me of the 90s teen romance films. I really enjoyed watching this, however I could see why some didn't. It is targeted for a teen to young adult audiences so yes it's cliche. With that being said I thought the physical touch scenes were done so well. Literally down to the slight feel of an arm or a whisper it was beautiful. I think for the right audience it's a great watch.
Down a Dark Hall (2018)
Pleasantly surprised, but room for improvement
Stubbled across this film on Netflix. I'm a huge fan of AnnaSophia Robb, she is an amazing actress. This film just highlights how fantastic she is. Her character portrayal was spot on. The other actresses including Uma Thurman, also didn't fail to impress. In the beginning the plot was super engaging and enjoyable. However as the film went on it got a bit boring. It could have been done much better. They could have even explored, a non horror route and just have it be a drama/fantasy film.
Although it did become stupid and I didn't enjoy the storyline towards the end. It was a decent film to watch with brilliant cinematography and outstanding acting.
Glass (2019)
Well thought out
This movie has been made so well. It has been thought out and planned to the tee. It's not an easy digest kind of film. However makes for a great watch if you like more complex plots. The acting speaks for itself, each part is played to perfection.
I was highly confused to find how many official critics disliked this film. The only downside for me, was not knowing about the company Dr Ellie worked for. It left me disappointed as Shyamalan had already stated there won't be a sequal. Which unfortunately left me with a few unanswered questions.
Overall the movie ticks many boxes has lots of drama and action. With a few moments of thrill to keep the heart racing. The plot keeps your eyes glued to screen, with no gaps for loo breaks. I enjoyed it very much and would definetley watch again.
Level 16 (2018)
A decent film
I enjoyed this film I thought it was different, and it played with an interesting idea. It's definetley not for everyone. However its something i found entertaining and thrilling. It's not an amazing film and it won't win an oscar. On the other hand the acting is spectacular and it's a pretty decent film. I reccomend to watch.
