Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008)
Wes Anderson probably gets his colorful inspiration from Hindi movies like these
This one is for hopeless romantics. It's been a while since I saw a Hindi movie. This one was just too fun and colorful! Shahrukh Khan does an awesome job of transitioning between a geek husband and a humorous dance partner. The actress is pretty awesome too. This movie also make fun of the cliché's in Hindi movies unlike anything I have seen.
Very creative.
There was no dull moment. Some of the dance sequences were really good and joyful.
So colorful and fun! a definite watch with family and friends. 8/10 for awesomeness.
Lucy (2014)
Cool factor high but an insult to intelligence
Luc Besson makes cool movies. Great action sequences and fast pace. Go see this movie if you want to have a fun ride.
Now comes the part about why it's an insult to intelligence.
We all use 100% percent of our brain. We just do. Think about it. Would you say you use only 10% of your hand or only 5% of your nose. Almost every part of a human being is under use all the time. It's being utilized fully for what its purpose is. The notion that our brain has unused capacity is simply wrong. Our brain is modular in nature and all its parts have a specific purpose. They are all under use, all the time. There is nothing in there that needs to be run at it's "full" capacity to unlock secrets of the universe. It's true that with proper training you can use your brain better to remember things or stay more focused. That's just rewiring inside your brain over a period of time which comes with training and good nutrition. I say this movie is an insult to intelligence, because they reduced our potential to unlock the secrets of the universe to pumping a drug in our body. Our generation is already becoming slaves to things like smart phones and the internet, here's a movie that explores the unlimited potential of human mind using a drug. That's plain lazy thinking. Is this what was going through Luc Besson's mind: "okay so I want to show the human race what they could do if their brain were at full potential...hmm...lets see...EUREKA! a drug could possibly accelerate this process...not critical thinking...not meditation...not hard work...a drug...that makes sense...it's so simple!"
I look forward to see Interstellar which does exactly the opposite. I believe Christopher Nolan wants us to believe in our own selves (at our current brain capacity) to unlock secrets of the universe.
Also what's up with Scarlett Johansson's ET like mannerisms when her brain "capacity" increases. An enlightened person will not act like an alien, they will act like real human beings, they will show kindness and empathy.
7/10 for its entertainment value only. If Luc Besson make any claim about this movie being something more than just an action movie then a f**k y** and 1/10 from me.
Non-Stop (2014)
Found it great
Liam Neeson has officially done it again. Who knew that he could open another dimension to a same type of character that he has played 3 times in the past. It felt fresh to see him play this rugged, calm under extreme pressure, government agent who is the man of the hour. He has explored breadth of this character really well. This is a fast paced action movie with a decent plot. You are here to see how Liam Neeson pulls it off, not the writer or the director. He doesn't disappoint a single moment. I feel there is room for more of such movies with him in it, if he is up for it. If you need an adrenaline pumped, no-twists revealed until the end kind of a movie this weekend, go check it out!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013)
Jake Jake Jake Jake
Andy Samberg tickles my funny bone and this show is just full of it. Jake Peralta is a really funny character. He wants to be the best cop in town and also the funniest. It's a brilliant idea that can go on forever. I will never stop watching this. Best thing since Arrested Development Season 1-3. I hope they don't pull the plug on this one. Fox TV Network Cats are you listening to us on this one? If you guys are reading this, then know that there are many like me who find this show pretty amazing. And if you pull the plug, we might go out and find fresh air more entertaining than the other crap you play on your channel. I hope you understand and appreciate the following "Only a FOOL repeats the same mistake and expect a different outcome". We will just hate you for it. Do you need any more of that? Don't you have enough of it already?
American Hustle (2013)
Pretentious piece of S##T
I feel like I got conned into watching this movie. Thankfully it was not on my own buck. Yet I feel I lost time in a day that otherwise would have been very productive. The star-studded cast makes you think this would probably be the best movie of the year but it is not even close. The acting, the story, the directing it's too pretentious. I think Mr. Russell needs a lesson in humility, so does Mr. Bale and Ms. Lawrence. What is this movie? a con movie, a movie about struggle to survive, a movie about revenge, It's hard to decide. It's a piece of S##T for sure. I am still giving it 6/10 for Ms. Adams' and Mr. Coopers' almost over the top but still an average performance.
About Time (2013)
Sweet and simple time travel, yet thought-provoking
I loved this feature. I am big fan of time travel movies and this one will slowly rise up in my list of favorites as 'time' progresses. There are two things that stood out in this movie which you don't get to see in a time travel movie. First, how time travel is not used for something dramatic, but for love and family. Second, apart from being a romantic movie, this was also a father-son movie - a relationship that was beautifully explored with a sweet end in that relationship. This movie made me think about what I really want in my life. My day went well.
